Cross-country ski tours

2,056 posts in this topic

I ma new in Munich and I have been trying to get into a cross country tour but they fill up very quickly. I cannot lead a group a place but for sure I can join one and help with the organization. We will be two people from Canada and we are reasonable skiers (and we will need to rent skis). We can go either Sunday or Saturday

If there is no group I would appreciate a recommendation for a place for us to go on our own. We do not have a car and we need to rent skis.

Many thanks in advance

Finally got around to waxing my skis. Should have done this in November. Better late than never.

H,

I really had a great time yesterday, the crowd was fantastic.

Special thanks to Editor Bob for his extra super patience with me. :)

To Ski or Not to Ski? That is the question!

weather it is nobler in the mind to suffer

the skis and poles of outrageous liopes,

or to take skis against a sea of snow?

and by opposing, skate them;

It's Oberammernogo as snow conditions are still rather temperamental (I mean it's not like it's the middle of winter or anything). So it's off to pastures new and further afield as we head to the ski resort of Oberstdorf in the Allgäu Alps. The tour is technically easy (blue). As we have a fair distance to cover though it requires previous experience of cross-country skiing – even if you've only been once or twice. Just so that we know you can in fact ski.

Meeting time is 8.30 a.m. on Sunday at Munich Hauptbahnhof at our usual meeting point outside Radius Tours, behind the BOB ticket office by platforms 27-36 (walk down platform 26 to get there). The journey time to Oberstdorf is a mere 2:25h – so fast we'll be there before you've realised we've left. Upon arrival we stop to hire skis before setting off through the (hopefully) sunny meadows around the town, with the Allgäu Alps rising up in front of us. We stop for lunch after an hour or so. In the afternoon the faster skiers have the option of a 15-kilometre medium-level route (with one black section) to the south of the town, while the rest of the group continue along the meadow trails around the town. At the end of the day there's time for a quick cup of tea before jumping back on the train. Arrival time back in Munich is 8.40 p.m. Total skiing distance is 15+ km.
