There will by all accounts be heavy and persistent snowfall tomorrow. This doesn't really change anything; you should just be mentally prepared that conditions will be interesting and the quality of the tracks poor in places. Oh, and that there's a small risk that we won't be able to get back to Munich.

Well I was walking up there today to Schweiger Alm - sadly closed - the only pub with an open fire I know in the area.

Although in the valley higher up where we were it as snowing beautifully lower down in the area where your loipe runs it was raining, so fingers crossed for you guys.

Be sure to drop by the Tegernsee Naturkäserei as I believe your Loipe runs right near it. Excellent cheese products, milk from the cow (bit dear at 2.40 when we pay 60 cts a litre at our farm) but still good.

Have fun.

Having spent the whole day skiing through a snowstorm I'm now only 50% sure whether to come tomorrow. Have fun if I don't see you.

Well sorry.

Since it's my first time, I'd rather try some other time.

Have fun!

Here are some photos from today's trip to Kreuth. Thanks again to STB for finding another great place to ski and showing us the way round.

With fresh snow forecast for Friday/Saturday and sunshine (!) for Sunday, it's off to the sunny meadows of Ruhpolding, Germany's cross-country mecca. The route is graded "easy" (blue) apart from one optional side loop that is graded "medium" with one black ascent/descent. Total skiing distance is around 15 km.

There's a different meeting point this week: 8.30 a.m. in Munich Hauptbahnhof in front of Platform 9 (walk down Platform 11; follow signs for "Gleise 5-10"). The journey to Ruhpolding is a little shy of two hours, and once there we hire skis and head out onto the trails. The first couple of hours are along flat trails through the meadows before we veer off onto the Froschsee-Loipe, an optional 5-km, medium-difficulty detour. After a late lunch we boogie on back to Ruhpolding. Expected arrival time back in Munich is 7 p.m.

Hi Small Town Boy,

Is this one suitable for a COMPLETE beginner, or will I hold everyone up? Is there a way for me to avoid the medium difficulty loop?
