Violent crime in Germany

Yes, when cops could abuse their authority and beat confessions out of people without the pesky media impinging on their power.. Truly the halcyon days of justice.

Interesting comments. As I read it, as long as they break into your home, but do not touch, assult or treaten, you have no right to touch them. Hit a burgular with a baseball bat that's not touched or threatened you, as I read it, is not defense, so you'ld be done for assult. Just because he's cleaned out your valuables you still can't legally touch him. The scenerio I mentioned on my first comment was told to me by a retired German cop.

Again, not true.

Does German even have a translation for 'happy slapping'?

Aber natürlich. Häppischlappen.

Sounds like something you should do in the privacy of your own home.

Anyway, this place is damnably safe and I bally well love it. I mean, I grew up in Southampton and was living near Hull for 10 years, so this place is positively sedate.

I honestly don't see any telephone booths on the dark, wooded roads around here. Before cell phones, I wouldn't want to be driving alone.

In Deutschland sind Notrufsäulen auf Autobahnen und abgelegenen Bundesstraßen, Landstraßen und Kreisstraßen ca. alle 500 m bis 2000 m aufgestellt.

I remember being shown the 'bad' housing estates in the nearest city to me and actually laughing. The social housing on view was of an equal standard to some of the more expensive apartment complexes in Dublin. The streets were clean, there was little graffiti, no burnt out or boarded up houses and the telephone box had not been vandalised. It might be a false sense of security, but when all those things look so orderly, it's hard to believe that you are at a big risk of attack on the streets.

Come to Gelsenkirchen. I can assure you that you will feel unsafe here. By all means stay away from Borsigplatz,Dortmund. I have seen young German boys quevering on the street after a drug overdose. Islam prostitutes everywhere and in general, the police avoid that area. I used to have to work there, I am so happy that now I am retired!

We do have places here in the Rhine-Neckar area that fit that bill. And more.

Just because he's cleaned out your valuables you still can't legally touch him. The scenerio I mentioned on my first comment was told to me by a retired German cop.

That just tells you you should take anything from a cop regarding legal matters with a grain of salt.

§34 StGB

"Whoever in a current, not otherwise avertable danger to life, limb, freedom, honour, property or another legally protected interest commits a deed to avert this danger to himself or another person does not act unlawful if, under consideration of the conflicting interests, specifically the legally protected interests affected and the degree of danger to them, the protected interests outweigh the impaired interests [of the perp] substantially."

Or to summarize, yes you can use violence to protect property. No, you can't bash his head in for trying to flee with your TV.

There are no muslim prostitutes in dortmund,

a muslim father would beat her daughter if she tried to prostitute herself.

To put it bluntly the turkish people who live in the "Nordstadt", were under the first people that demanded that prostitution is banned in the area.

The prostitutes that caused problems were from Bulgaria and Romania and i doubt that they were doing it out of their free will.

Yes the "Nordstadt" has a lot of problems, in the moment with some people from Bulgaria and Romania, that can not behave themselves properly. But also with Landlords who do not really care for their property, renting their rundown buildings to a lot of poor people from Bulgaria and Romania. There are flats for 3 persons, that are filled with 20 or more people. In the moment the state is taking action against this problems and the city is buying run down buildings to renovate and convert them into flats for students. There are a lot of programs to solve the problems of the "Nordstadt".

And Essen has also suburbs with problems, like every other city on the world.

To Birddog,

if you are in danger you are allowed to protect the life and health of yourself, your family, you neighbours ..., with violent even deadly force.

But you are not allowed to kill a fleeing criminal, because if he is fleeing there is no danger for life or health.

A human life is more worth than materialistic things.

And i can't hear those socialist shit from some americans anymore, social-economy has nothing to do with socialism or marxism. Americans like to talk about european debt crisis and are forgetting their own debts that are rising (remember the decision to raise the debt border in the last minute), and for what? Military power, unnecessary wars instead of financing a decent health care system for everybody, to fight against poverty ....

And sorry i see a lot of bad sides of unrestrained capitalism in my city, all those locusts who buy buildings and sell them to another locust without investing anything in their property until the city can not tolerate anymore that districts fall into disrepair. The city buys the buildings and renovates them and after this the situation in the districts is getting better. Capitalism is not a bad thing, if there are good rules to control it and if it finances a system that is good for the wellbeing of its citizens.

@MiNi

An accident with a speeder is more likely as to be raped on the Autobahn.

If you have a breakdown, you should if possible drive slowly on the emergency lane to the next exit. The emergency lane is dangerous, you should leave it asap. Do not change tyres or whatever on the emergency lane , if you can not reach the next exit with the car, use the door on the right to step on the street, put you warnwest on, take your breakdown triangle put it 100m behind your car, climb over the crash barrier and try to get yourself in a safe distance from the "Autobahn" and now call the ADAC for help.

To make it short if above confused you, i meant to say: Social economy (Soziale Markwirtschaft) is a special form of capitalism and i think a lot of americans do confuse this with socialism or even marxism, when talking about social systems in europe. (I think the majority in this forum will know the difference, after i read some more posts)

But forget it, it was a case of answering an old post and not realising it, because i could not sleep.
