Caffeine-induced "insanity" pleaded by murderer

17 posts in this topic

A Kentucky man who ingested about a fourth of the amount of caffeine most TTers consume before lunch is attempting to plead insanity due to drinking too much Red Bull and swallowing diet pills.

I don't have anyone to kill but if this guy gets off, maybe I should drink a pot of coffee and rob a couple of banks.

Read further about what those ca-ra-zay Yanks are trying to get away with this time.

There is a well established link between Twinkies and Supervillainry

Well, to be fair, they are claiming temporary insanity due to sleep deprivation (self-induced through all the caffeine he was ingesting). Sleep deprivation can cause altered states, that's a fact.

I wonder if that argument works when someones been up for 2 days on a coke or meth bender and does something illegal. "I was sleep deprived"

Indeed. He was willingly inducing his sleep deprivation. That will likely be a key element that the jury will have to contemplate. However, it's not really 100% correct to say he is claiming caffeine-induced insanity. That's alls I sayin'.

I've done a lot of stupid things after high caffeine consumption and after prolonged sleep deprivation, but tying up and strangling people hasn't entered into it... yet

Hey I lived of red bull and no doze in college, I was pretty twacked at times, but that is a far stretch.

Amazes me the pleas people come up with now a days. He would have been much better of to claim insanity, works for the most of them.

Seems that idea hadn't percolated through to him.

Has this been reported in the French press yet?
