I'll have to disagree here.

I speak German fluently (people think I'm German in my company until I tell them) and language is part of my work. möglicherweise is a completely normal word in German if you're not from the lowest tier of schooling. bedauerlicherweise is formal (but current) German, something you will find in a job refusal letter or something from an authority.

So I hate to burst our German friend's bubble, but the joke isn't funny.

 

Möglicherweise war der Witz schlecht gewählt. Bedauerlicherweise war er einfach nicht lustig. Tschüss!
