So the woman at the clothes store welcomed us in. Times have been hard. " Bitte kommen Sie herein." Then she spotted our pint-sized dog Roza, 15 years old ( at least ).

" Nein, keine Hunde."

Times can remain hard, babe. Stay primitive.

I laugh at your ignorance.

We spent some money elsewhere.

The problem is she doesn´t know your dog. Yours could be one of those that sheds hair everywhere and would be wonderful when another customer comes in to buy some clothes and they´re covered in dog hair.

It could be vicious or incontinent or whatever.

I certainly wouldn´t let strange dogs into a business I owned and I love dogs.

I would add, that should another dog already be in the shop or come in when you're already there, it could turn nasty depending on their temperament. Not all dogs are sweet tempered, when they meet another dog. My daughter's dog is such a dodgy character.

To my pleasant surprise there are almost no retail businesses here that don’t allow dogs inside, with the exception of bakeries and supermarkets.  They are even allowed in the post office.  It seems to work as I’m not seeing dog poop or fighting in the stores or restaurants.  Of course it’s her right to deny entry, but as @john g. points out, she deals with the consequences.

Absolutely true, and I guess here those dogs aren’t coming into establishments because I don’t see it happening.  I was initially afraid to bring my dog in the Café because of that, but darn if he isn’t on his best behavior in those places.  😂

I have no problems with dogs in shops, however, I don´t own any of those businesses.

Using johng´s example, would you want a big dog wandering around in a clothes shop.Let´s face it many owners basically don´t give a shit what their dogs do.

I don't usually take a dog shopping with me and if I have, I tied it up outside for a quick pop in and out. I make an exception with cafes and restaurants. The dogs that I have had have been perfectly behaved, lying under the table and no one noticed they were there until we got up to leave.

Italy has the right idea - special supermarket trolleys for dogs.
Ours loved finally being allowed in a supermarket.

I actually think temperament is more relevant than size.  But as I said, owners can/should do what they want, and I don’t judge.  The 🐶 culture is so strong here that dogs enter unless a „NO 🐶“ sign is clearly visible.  This was new to me.

That’s sometimes true, even when the shop owner is the dog owner!  The one time I was actually annoyed was in a nearby Indian restaurant with 2 small yapping dogs.  Turns out they belong to the restaurant owners.  😂  I have to laugh now when I see them walking around near my house in the old city.  Fantastic food there too.

You can call me a primitive and ignorant (actually nasty thing to do), but I think dogs have no place in businesses where hygiene is important, like supermarkets, restaurants, pharmacies and so on.
