Beaut Aussie BYO Picnic

Ok, the Kiwi version:

You know that ‘thongs’ go on a girl’s bum – ‘jandals’ go on your feet

You’ve lost at least one filling to a K-Bar

The difference between your winter and summer uniforms at primary school was a jersey

You’ve broken down and cried at least once every 4 years from 1991 onwards

The sound of ‘Waltzing Matilda’ makes you feel physically sick

The underwear you put on depends on which rugby team is playing that day

You get excited when you walk into a 7-11 overseas and see L & P

You learnt from Billy T James that Maoris have their own special giggle

You know that “the big taste always gets through!”

You brag to less enlightened societies that you’ve had two consecutive female prime ministers

You think of a music group before a vegetable when someone mentions Herbs

Bata Bullets might not have been fashionable, but they were cool because they were made here

The Goodnight Kiwi and the Cat were the first inter-species bedmates you had seen

Hillary was a mountain climber and total world-class legend and not an American politician

The Briscoes lady irritates you

When someone says "Yeah Right" you immediately think of Tui Beer

Any sport is interesting to you when we beat Australia at it

You’ve trodden on a cowpat in bare feet

You think Cheerios and Fairy Bread constitute fine dining

You walk out into the 2 inches of morning frost in jandals, stubbies, and a bush singlet, remarking what a beautiful morning it is

You’ve referred to an accident as a “Minties moment”

You firmly believe that Pavlova was invented by a New Zealander

You can say Whakatane without thinking it's a swear word

You miss earthquakes

You can take the lid of a beer bottle with a fish slice

Hotdogs come on a stick, with crunchy batter and heaps of tomato sauce

You know what scroggin is and would never go tramping/camping without it

The name "Chappell" still makes you queasy

The dairy sells more than just stuff from cows

You want beetroot on your burger

You're proud to say to people overseas that you're a Kiwi. And they either know what you're talking about or wonder why anyone would be proud of being a hairy fruit

Well, just checked the weather repor for Sunday, 22°C and loads of sunshine... Couldn't ask for anything more! I'll be coming up to Düsseldorf by train from Cologne... Any others going that way too? Perhaps we could meet up at the station beforehand and travel together (Ive got the BahnCard 100, so unfortunately cant take anyone with me on that ticket). I checked the DB web site.. the following trains are possible:

11:10 11:31 IC

11:20 11:43 IC

11:31 12:01 RE

11:46 12:09 IC

11:49 12:19 RE

Ill try and dig up my flag too.. I do have a spare BBQ, but not too sure whether Ill need to bring it or not!

Food wise Ill whip up a lemon meringue pie, a big bowl of salad, and I think I still have a packet or two of Tim Tams at home too... Ill put together an aussie CD before Sunday too.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday.

Ciao

Rick

If anyone else is getting the train from Cologne, 3 of us so far are meeting outside the HBf (Dom side) at 11.15am. We'll have beer and Aussie flags so will be easily identifiable. There's still room on the group ticket if anyone is interested in splitting that cost too. See you then :)

Great Kiwi List Parky!

An extra BBQ would be great No-Touching... we'll have a big bag of coal there if it helps.

Rick, there's a reserved spot on Jo's new weber just for you!!

The weather keeps getting better and better - looks like it's gonna be 24 now - AND SUNNY!!

I'm nearly set to go... I have 2 small salads, 1 large dessert, some rissoles and some bread rolls. I wasn't sure if we were sharing food or eating our own but I made enough of all to share. Gawd I hope people want to share it as it is far too much for me!

What I dont have is bowls for the dessert if anyone has some disposables they can bring along. Hopefully more than one person can bring a table or there are some there. I'll be coming up on the train and will already be carrying a large load of things, dont want to add a table to the list.

You have cricket playing kids, Callalacorks? My 5 year old is an eager player! If you're up to it - do come along! (My Ger-Man husband loves to play - even has a grasp on the LBW rule -but he's a bit of a "chucker" ;-))

Briseis, I have a stack of paper plates that I'm bringing.

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!!

cheers,

HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who came along and made this such a super day!

It was wonderful to meet you all. :-)

We'll have to make this an annual event. (Rick suggested Köln for next year!?!)

& Thanks so much Sue, for posting the pics & videos! I've managed to accidentally wipe mine (ugh!) but will attempt retrieval.

Did someone loose a pink girl's Jacket? (Suzanne, perhaps?) I have it - so please pm me if it's yours so I can get it back to you.

Cheers,

Mel
