Posted 23 Feb 2010 I guess when the poster gives a little more evidence or identifies himself a little better we'll see.*Sigh*, ok. Here's the email his "father" sent. Here's the headers of the email. This is my bank account showing how I took 300 eur out on Sat. Notice that the time is a few mins after the email. @MrNosey, I wasn't "giving money out" as charity. I was helping someone who was supposedly in a bad situation get a money transfer. Given his story, there was no way to help him help himself except ignoring him. @Gen. Since you obviously don't want to help, why are you in this thread?
Posted 23 Feb 2010 I could say right now that the guy is Admus Admusson from Greenland. Now what? I find his social networks and then try to inform everyone around him of what he did. For example.
Posted 23 Feb 2010 But of course, its just easier to attack the one who has been the victim instead of helping isn't it? Much like Jim below you. I simply stated a fact, and I still have 300 yoyos in the bank.
Posted 23 Feb 2010 I find his social networks and then try to inform everyone around him of what he did. For example. That's harassment, you can't do that. You're not handling the situation properly. There are two things that need to be done; firstly, you ask a moderator to delete this thread, and then you go to the police.

I don't really see it this way. However it is obvious now that this community is not willing to help anyone who is not a long time member. It seems quite the contrary in fact.
Posted 23 Feb 2010 This story does not come from Germany: I once got mugged in San Francisco, CA. I only went to the police the next day. I have no idea if I'm smart enough now to avoid a repeat one day, but I do know that as soon as I become aware of a situation like a con or a mugging, I'll go to the police ASAP.
Posted 23 Feb 2010 Jim is right. You were a fool to give your money to a stranger. Instead of trying to justify yourself, learn to do better in the future. Here's some help: when a tourist has genuinely lost their money, etc, their national embassy can lend them an emergency fund to get home. So next time, for a genuine case, all you have to do is find the phone number for them.
Posted 23 Feb 2010 I don't understand however why everyone is so opposed with me going to the police AND trying to find him myself. Why should I just give up?

And us German taxpayers are expected to sort your shit out for you. Bloody charming. And what's more, we are led to believe you got scammed by a Greenlander...or was it by any chance an Icelander?
Posted 23 Feb 2010 I find his social networks and then try to inform everyone around him of what he did. For example. But, if he's a con-artist, who do you imagine his "social networks" are? When he's not scamming the likes of you, you seriously think he's hanging out with the great and good of Frankfurt? His "social networks" (probably people much like him) will probably have a laugh, give him a pat on the pack and say "good one". Seek him out and find him, what do you think might happen with him and his ilk?
Posted 23 Feb 2010 His "social networks" (probably people much like him) will probably have a laugh, give him a pat on the pack and say "good one". Might be the case. In which case I haven't lost anything. Might however NOT be the case.
Posted 23 Feb 2010 It's harassment when someone scammed you out of 300Eur? I don't really see it this way. It's not really important how you see it. You write very good English for a Greek, by the way.
Posted 23 Feb 2010 @Gen. Since you obviously don't want to help, why are you in this thread? Gen advised you to consider the following possibly criminal actions: - Publishing the photograph of a person not of public interest without his consent - Possibly falsely accusing someone of a crime I wouldn't call her advice unhelpful. Then again, I am of the legal persuasion myself. I don't understand however why everyone is so opposed with me going to the police AND trying to find him myself. Why should I just give up? Because the police are - trained to do this - get paid for it - have better resources Stop being an angel of revenge and leave crime busting to the specialists. I mean, even if they find this guy the chances of retrieving your money tend towards zilch. Your time is better spent warning others and telling them of your bad experience as a tangible example that bad things happen to good people.
Posted 23 Feb 2010 Might be the case. In which case I haven't lost anything. Might however NOT be the case. Well, you have been offered more than enough advice from people here to go to the police with all your evidence. It still seems to be the concensous, now get your crystal ball and run along to the police station and stop playing the sleuth.
Posted 23 Feb 2010 Erik Janson is a singer/composer. What if someone tells you: Hey, give me 300 yoyos and my mommy Björk will transfer you the money back. Anyway, enjoy a video of the "father" of your new friend:
Posted 23 Feb 2010 It's amazing when one offers evidence of criminals active in frankfurt and people put more effort trying to make them give up, insult and/or prove them to be a fraud themselves. Just boggles the mind. This a good evidence of the "blame-the-victim" culture we have today it seems.
Posted 23 Feb 2010 You have got to admit it was a neat con though and so much better than "has'n Euro" you normally get to hear.

Posted 23 Feb 2010 Oh, and stop feeling sorry for yourself. You have got some good advice here as well as some slamming; it's your choice which one you will prioritize.
