Scientific study says German Sundays are pointless

Strange, I was in Duesseldorf over xmas and those markets were quite packed with what could be described as crowds of people. On a Sunday, no less.

Yeah but be fair, they were all Dutch!

And I don't fight them.

Anyway.. depends when you go.

And when it's that cold.. you're glad of all those warm bodies giving off heat. I know we were when we visited D'dorf and Cologne Christmas markets.

Do what with the fucking what what? Simple daily shit like going to the supermarket, listening to people talking, or buying marijuana is ridiculously stressful in Germany, and a piece of piss in England. Fairplay, riding a bicycle is probably more stressful in the UK, but frankly, I am not 12, and I can afford to take a taxi, so that is not even slightly relevant to me.

Maybe you are comparing differnet parts of the UK and Germany to the bits that I know, but life in Kroutland is just one long miserable string of stress as far as I am concerned, and going to England is like taking bath in awesomeness. Pubs, meat that is not industrially produced pork, a language that is not an incitement to violence...much better.

Anyway, on topic, sunday here are shit. Granted, so are all the other days, but sundays are especially shit. They bring with them a higher chance that some cunt of a krout in-law might visit, which is shit, and whilst sunday in England is spent smoking weed and relaxing, here is it spent not smoking weed, and being pissed off about the fact that there is not enough weed here. Stupid draconian krout anti-weed motherfuckers.

I don't get people like this. If you don't like the people, the country, the way the shops work, the food, the drugs (by the way, what age is someone that wants to sit and get stoned the entire weekend?) why don't you bugger off back on the next easyjet or ryanair flight to england and not come back? You'd probably be a lot happier, and you wouldn't spend your time writing nonsense on a english message board in a foreign country. And by the way, your grasp of the english language leaves a lot to be desired if you have to use expletives so often, says quite a bit for the modding on here as well.

If Germany really wanted to remain a Christian country, then they wouldn't allow all these non-Christians to enter the country and practice their own religions. They'd make converting to Christianity part of the integration course. You can't have it both ways.

I'm sorry but if this post isn't someone at the windup, they should be set out on their arse for a while for posting something like this. Or is this a BNP forum?

Who had 20:55 on the "If you don't like it here, why don't you go home?!" sweepstake? Anyone? Or is it a roll-over again?

Sorry to disappoint with regard to the sweep, but WTF? Incidently I had 5 minuttes in the "The foreign country in which I reside is shit but I've not yet grown a pair and done anything about it" sweep. Wrong again. :(

Lived in several countries now including the US twice. Everywhere has something different to enjoy/dislike from home, but if I felt as disgruntled as some of the posters, I wouldn't stay. If it has to be the same as 'home' for you then stay at home. I regard myself as extremely lucky to be able to experience different societies from the 'inside' rather than as a tourist, and it sure cured me of thinking that Johnny Foreigner and his country had nothing to beat the UK homeland.

Hi, welcome to an internet forum, in which people commonly vent about things that annoy them regarding the topical focus of the said forum. In this case, living in Germany (with it's dumbass shop-opening laws to cater to people who can't possibly go on their Sunday nature walks if someone is buying groceries somewhere other than a gas station store.)

I guess that all the people needed to staff the shops wouldn't be going on their Sunday walks.

I'm not at the wind up. I frequently read a football forum (a demographic not normally known for their delicate sensitivities) and the language used in that post is appalling in comparison.

Neither are the poor people who have to serve those walkers their post walk beers, coffee, food, or gas on Sunday - your point?

Well, if we so desperately need shops to be open on Sundays, why shouldn't just about anyone else work on Sundays as well?

After giving this topic all the due thought it deserves, I've concluded that from now on everyone should be forced to stay within their own property from sunrise to sunset on Sundays. Only the direct route to the church and back is allowed, to maintain the facade of Christianity. Otherwise, all non-essential persons would have to obey the curfew since it is the only way to truly ensure that EVERYONE (including us country folk!) gets to enjoy a quiet and peaceful Sunday.

That means that nobody would be forced to clean toilets any more on Sundays for all these insensitive folks who insist on making other poor schmucks work just so they can enjoy themselves. All stores, including all gas stations would be closed, except for automatic pumps available for emergency personnel. Anyone needing prescription medicine would call a hotline and it could be delivered to their door. Residents of hotels would be able to pre-order their Sunday meals, which would be delivered to the room Saturday and they could warm them up themselves in the room's microwave. Budget hotel guests could make do with sandwiches for a day, or use the vending machines conveniently located near the lobby.

Problem solved. Next? :P

As long as they get 2 days off somewhere in the week or are properly compensated for having to work longer hours, then sure, who cares. Millions of people who work in service industries manage to have lives while working Sunday. Theres no reason an aldi checker should somehow get some special protection for jeebus day but a bartender or cab driver doesn't.

Of course, thats a silly slippery slope statement, as most jobs are not going to shift to random days off, as evidenced by countries which have evolved past religious nonsense (well okay, bad example since the US hasn't evolvde past most religious nonsense, just this particular piece of it) to have weekend opening hours and which still have the majority of jobs with weekends off.

Isn't democracy great!

The vast majority of the citizens of this country, as opposed to us non voting guests here, have had countless opportunities to vote in a party that would change the shop opening hours.

In a limited way they have done just that, those who remember the first Saturday in the month opening hours and the like will know what it used to be like.

Up to now they have refrained from pushing for a complete removal of opening hour rules so there must be enough people who like it as it is.

Don't like it? Tough shit :)
