Gernot Herrmann

Good doctor, personable guy... perfect English. I think most of them speak decent English, but Dr. Herrmann studied in the UK.

As I can not speak directly on Gernot Herrmann, I have recently used this practice, and would NOT recommend. The communication was poor, they lack of English speaking personnel(or just unwilling), and various other complications with the procedure have lead me to find a new doctor.

I highly recommend Dr. Bielicky in Oberkassel. Very nice facilities, accepts both public and private insurance, helpful English speaking staff, and just all around a nice guy.

Dr. Comely is an a-hole! A total ass.

After waiting an hour (which doesn't make me that mad, I'm used to it) he came in and was just a jerk. I really wanted to say "I'm sorry, am I taking up too much of your time?" but I was too flabbergasted at his behavior. His waiting room was packed and he clearly just wanted to plow through appointments.

I said that I wanted to wait instead of go through this four-day long complex allergy test and he just said "fine, do what you want." He sounded like my five-year-old! I even called him a jerk ... to his back as he was walking away.

Don't waste your time with this guy. And his English isn't that good. Receptionists ... no English at all.

My apologies. We're not supposed to call people names here. Clearly I stormed in from my appointment yesterday and pounded out the above without even taking off my coat -- not that it's not all true.

I'd just like to add the links that someone else provided to me, and that have been useful (I found my GP and an HNO that speak English and in reasonable distance from me, considering I do not have a car this is important). These are basically search engines for doctors where you specify what you want, have a try:

(for completeness here is the forum post where konrad gave me the above URLs)

I have been to Cornely, Herrmann, and Bielicky and I must say I wouldn't recommend any of them. At Cornely's office I particularly didn't like the saloon-style swinging door to his examination room. There was no privacy! Since the door didn't span the entire frame everything could easily be overheard by other patients sitting right next to that room. Pretty insane if you ask me! I also was not too crazy about the guy - he seemed to have a pretty big ego and was too eager to sell you "extras". Herrmann was nice but I wasn't impressed by his knowledge and his practice was a bit of a madhouse. Definitely didn't like Bielicky but that's my own personal opinion. All of them did speak English though.

So I'm still looking for a decent dermatologist either in Duesseldorf or in the surrounding areas. Any other recommendations?

Dr. Heukelbach speaks English. I have never spoken to his staff in English, so cannot comment on that. He loves the UK & loves talking about the breakfasts...

Waiting times were not the shortest. I would recommend signing in then going out for a walk, the receptionists are pretty competent in giving an estimated time that you will see the doc.

I was happy with the treatment I received.

Good luck!

Not sure if maybe I should have started a new thread for this query, but does anyone know of an English speaking Psychiatrist / Psychotherapist in the Duesseldorf area?

Cheers

There are a couple of threads on this already: English therapist/grief counselors in Düsseldorf and Looking for an English-speaking psychologist - you might be better posting there. Or you can contact your Krankenkasse and ask them to send you a list of those therapists listed with them as speaking English.

As for the dermatologist, I go to Dr. Kratka on Nordstr. He's a bit of a funny one but I've found him competent so far. I mostly speak German with him but he does speak English (I just don't know how well) - actually it's one of the things that does slightly annoy me because if I'm speaking German it really bugs me when doctors and the like start telling me stuff in English if I ask what something means. Nope, don't understand that in English either, I need an explanation for the medical stuff, I'm not just having a bad German day! But anyway, you could try him. I think it's a bit of a personality thing because my boss told me she went to him and wouldn't go back. But so far I've found him fine.

He removed a cyst from my head a few months ago and it was just so easy and uncomplicated compared to the way similar cysts were treated in Ireland previously. There, it was take a couple of days off work and go into hospital as a day patient including stitches and horrible headaches afterwards and all. Here, I called in so he could take a look and assumed he'd refer me to a hospital but he took one look and said, okay, shall I do it now and within an hour I had gone out to get the 50 euro to pay for it (considered to be cosmetic so not coverd by Krankenkasse), come back, waited, had cyst removed and had time to go into a shop and buy a scarf to wear over the big plaster on my head before heading into work. Only thing similar to the Irish doctor was his surprise at how big the thing was under the surface - he made me look at it because he was so enthused, but I just found it completely gross, like a little alien had set up shop in my forehead. :) All of which too much information is to give you a bit of an idea what he's like because he really does seem to be a bit of a character that some people just don't get on with.

Don't know if the nurses/receptionists speak English but I do know they have been really nice to me in the past.

Hi, just wanted to revive this thread and ask if there are any new suggestions for English-speaking dermatologists in Düsseldorf? I visited Dr Kratka (admittedly because he was the closest distance-wise) and wasn't very impressed. He seemed in a hurry to get over (although it was in the morning!) and essentially made me tell him the medical condition I 'thought' I had to which he gave me a prescription. There was no discussion of history, other medicines I'd been on, and lets just say the prescribed treatment also hasn't worked. So am not going back.

Any suggestions? Preferably this side of the pond (not Oberkassel)?! Thanks!

Despite what someone said before, I really like this guy and still see him. And he is very bright and knowledgable. It's a big practice, so there is sometimes a wait. But if you have an appointment, they are pretty good about getting you in close to your time.

I have been to Dr. Heukelbach ( http://www.dr.med-heukelbach.de/ ) once and was very disappointed with him. I feel like he didnt have time for me. He just asked me one question and didnt even take time to look at my skin-problem properly and i was really very disappointed. I was inside his consultation-room for barely a minute or two and he was done. He prescribes me some sort of cream and powder but i didnt buy any of his prescriptions as i didnt trust him.

I am still looking for a good Skin-Specialist here in Dusseldorf, specially around the North side of Dusseldorf. So, if you guys have any new suggestion, please share.. Thank you.
