He could have also said that voting for a man that starts an illegal war killing thousands of innocent people is also evil and these people should not receive communion either, but he didn't.  The "RAT" cannot selectively choose which form of "killing" is worse.  George Bush has directly killed more innocent people than Kerry's pro-choice ideology.  Fact!

Pope criticises Bush's handling of war in Iraq

1st paragraph

"THE Pope publicly rebuked President Bush yesterday over the invasion of Iraq and expressed dismay over prisoner abuse and continued turmoil in the Middle East. "

JPII was openly anti-Iraq war.

If abortion is currently not in line with the predict, witholding communion is within the rights of the church. Whether the view on abortion by the Catholic Church is correct or not is another matter entirely.

Ratzinger is a believer in "if you're in the Church, you're in the Church" - you can't just pick the bits that suit you.

@ eurovol

How fucking dumb can you get ?

The Pope is the mouthpiece of the Chruch. Ratzinger and JP were like peas and carrots for the last 30 years . You seriously think Ratzinger was pro-Iraq ? Post a source. Would love to hear it.

No, but Ratzinger's writings were aimed at Kerry being a Catholic and Pro-Choice. According to Rat, Bush is going to hell anyway because he is not a Catholic and born again don't count.

A hands-on pope like JPII is not the mouthpiece of the church, he is the church. His word is not open to interpretation as a number of theologians found out to their cost.

Ratzinger is going to be the same, he won't be employing any fuzzy logic. You're either going to be burning or beaming.

I wonder did anybody ask God about this or was he out on his Ducati over the weekend ?

In Ratzinger's eyes being "Catholic and Pro-Choice" is like being a meat-eating vegetarian. There are no shades of grey.

So is Gavin Henson by all accounts

Reminds me of dinners as a kid when you had eat the WHOLE dinner and couldn't leave the horrible mash Swede - like it now mind. I think we as modern, enlightened humans enjoy the "buffet style" of modern ethics. Certainly most people I know want the "Good Samaritan" and "Love your neighbour as yourself" but would pass by any ban on lots of sex with multiple partners like those dreary pasta salads that always get left over at the end of a party.

And even some of the most anti-religious Toytowners would give a big up for JCs trick with the water and the wine! B)

The modern informed consumer can compare prices, quality and level of service on the internet.

Stiftung Warentest have yet to do an article on "My heaven or yours, what's best ? Paradise tested for you".

So old Joe or Benny has to keep a good firm hand on the faithfull. Because the true believers like it that way and the wishy washy non church tax paying people like me who believe you can be a good person and still enjoy life arent buying into it anyway.

OK, deadly serious. I think I have worked out why Ratzinger is Pope. I may be wrong, but I have a better grip of his position in The Vatican now.

He is the perfect man, at the perfect time, and will be there to maintain internal order, whilst limiting the recent damage of legal cases against the Catholic church, especially in the USA, against cases of pedophelia, Etc.

Read this and tell me what you think:

Forgive me, I'm one of these "how can this happen" people.

Theory: JPII pulled JR into his sanctum sanctorum because he, being a forgiving type, wanted the world to really, really see that he had nothing whatsoever against Germans, even those who were around during the Nazi regime and wore the little uniform.

JPII forced the bitter pill of his doctrine by coating it with chocolate. Benedict XVI thinks he's going to do that -- but he an't! He's going to force down the bitter pill, all right, but with a shot of cod liver oil.

Another tortured analogy: we had Reagan, people liked him -- now we have Bush, who thinks he's Reagan Version 2.0., but isn't. We had JPII, now we have Benedict XVI. The Cards may THINK we're getting JPII Version 2.0, but I don't think we are. But hey, who am I to second-guess the Holy Spirit?

The short version is: Catholics, brace yourselves. The world-wide Catholic love-fest is OVAH!

Marya

P.S. Parnell, I think the term you're looking for is 'transsubstantiation.'

@Sin

i had a quick look at that and can't really follow your logic. they want to cover this stuff up, i mean you'd expect that, but why is ratzinger the perfect man for that task?

do we have any catholics on here? i mean actual practising catholics? would be interested to hear their views, it seems that everyone else wanted a pope who would encourage condom use, allow abortion, ordain women, allow same-sex marriage, be anit-war (pick and choose as desired). i wonder what true followers of the faith think.

Being a true Catholic is like being so off the chart - you're gonna have to work for that title.

All of the "everyone-elses" - non-Catholics.

Here's the thing - look at all the faiths of the world - the ones who watered it down died off or are very close to ... how many Anglicans make it on Sunday? Hell how many even pray ? Now look at the far - out churches like Scientology - those guys are growing like crazy in the States. I can't believe the lack of negative press they get.

I suggest that Ratzinger is the right man, a- because he has been on that case all along (one wonders if every offending priest has had to answer to him personally), and b- can you think of any other cardinal who the general clergy fear more?

It remains to be seen if Ratzinger is the best choice for the church or the followers in the long term, and although he seems fairly fit now, he is 78. But definately, on shoring up the defences, he's the right man.

Also, I should admit that this thinking didn't come from my own mind alone. My wife had a nice chat with our priest friend last night, and this was his suggestion.
