What's scary is how German I've become without even realizing it! I'm even more German than my German husband! :blink:

I've found most stereotypes about Germans to be, if not completely false, then at least nowhere near universally true. Many that I have met are friendly, gregarious, open-minded, pluralistic, and yes, even generous. I've not experienced rudeness or even officiousness, except from club bouncers.

 

The only thing I've found even remotely true are the stereotypes about dating, which is to say Germans are bad at flirting and small talk, bad at making and taking compliments, and generally clumsy about others' romantic feelings. That said, Germans who spend some time in the US or Canada seem to have picked it up pretty well, so I think it's a basic question of use and acclimation. Interestingly, Germans who have spent time in the UK or France dont' seem to have picked up any of these skills, so I wonder if the stereotypes are a bit self-reinforcing.

My scottish fiance (getting married in a few weeks) has still to handle with things a bit since hes relocated to Germany, tries to settle atm. and the different type of humor hes got to know but there is at most times a good laugh which is in common with many people over here :) Btw. I must admit we love fresh air :rolleyes: lol
