Hypnotist recommendations

24 posts in this topic

I bite my nails and have tried everything. I even bite them with the gross bitter stuff on. Any Ideas? I though of trying a hypnotist out? Does anyone have any recommendations for an english speaking hypnotist?

Actually getting your nails done might help. If you're budget concious and pay 30-euros to get a manicure you might be less inclined to chew on them. I dont know what they would charge for a man but its still probably not cheap in these parts.

i used to bite my nails compulsively when i was younger - i mean really badly, even the skin around them, yuk! I tried "stop 'n' grow" and even got to like it! When i started piano lessons again at 16, the teacher was really fussy about me having my nails cut really short - constantly. That's all it took - haven't bitten them since. I guess it was that there wasn't anything left to bite - give it a try. Mine are fine now - which is more than can be said about my piano skills.

Though please let me know if you hear of an english-speaking hypnotist...

Glad you found someone Imagi, good luck! I'd be curious to read how it goes. Does he offer any sort of money-back guarantee with such high rates?

Hi All,

Can anyone recommend any english speaking hypnotherapists in Munich? My wife is seeking ways of conquering an irrational fear of flying (other than by taking valium and scotch).

Any recommendations / suggestions would be much appreciated.

Did anyone ever have a recommendation for an English speaking hypnotherapist in Munich? Specifically for fear of flying, I'm so fed up of suffering on every flight and want to try hypnotherapy.

Just my two penn'orth... not sure I would ever let myself be hypnotised after reading that psychological damage can be sustained if you are not brought out of the trance correctly... or depending on your psychological state of health.

Rather I would recommend looking into Autogenic Training which is a little like self-hypnosis - so you are in control, not someone else. It is a method easily learnt. I went to the Volkshochschule to learn over 6 weeks. Cannot remember how much the course cost but it was pretty minimal. The hardest thing about it is having the discipline to actually practice it regularly. By this method you are able to influence your vegetative and sub-conscious functions, so things like nail-biting and irrational fears can be overcome.

That's great thanks!

Yes, but the in-flight drink is too little too late. Too much before boarding and I'll be refused!

Alcohol is a stupid idea, assuming you want to conquer your fear, not just knock yourself out to make it seem to go faster.

In case you decide hypnotherapy is not the way for ou, Lufthansa offers seminars which help to make you rationalise your fear. I was pretty scared of flying for years and considered doing one of these; luckily I eventually managed to discipline/talk myself out of the fear so didn't need the course.

My first thoughts turned exactly to these fear of flying courses, most airlines offer them I think. When I researched them though they seemed to be focused on teaching the physics of flying so that you understand the technicalities, what is turbulence, what are those noises, etc, but I understand all that, and I don't think someone telling me the plane won't malfunction is going to help, or at least it hasn't so far. But I will bear them in mind.

Happy for you that you've conquered your fear, I hope I can find a way to the good side too :)
