Stores that sell solid wood furniture

17 posts in this topic

Hi there, I am looking for a furniture store that sells the Solid Wood Large style Bedroom, dinning, and entertainment units. I have been to www.simbafurniture.com (they make frequent trips to the military bases and sell a lot to Americans)...but I want to see if I can find more selection of these types of furniture. Anyone know of other companies that carry these larger furniture units (prob sells to a lot of Americans)?? I hear that there are several places around each base that do, but I don't know of the names or location. I live in Stuttgart and have been here a year... so far finding nothing but Simba...

Not really interested in Ikea or moemax... we move a lot and the last Ikea entertainment unit we bought didnt make it. Blistered and is now crooked...all the wrought iron and glass tables wobble too...

I would appreciate the information anyone has to share...

Look at European Country Living in Landstuhl. I used to work there and they cater to mostly American clientel. They do have a website. If they don't have what you are looking for in the store, just ask them for what you want. The owner makes frequent trips to the states as he has a store in Virginia.

I second ECL. Great quality furniture spread over 3 floors. Not your typical American style furniture which I personally am not keen on, more of a French Country feel, predominantly oak or Heavy pine. Some of their stuff is antique but they offer a lot of antique 'style' new furniture. The owners are really friendly too.

Mann Mobilia is a good bet for furniture. The one in Karlsruhe has six vast floors of good quality German units. They're in other parts of the country too - check them on Google.

Have you been to Gamerdinger in Boeblingen-Hulb? I have purchased massive wood furniture from there. Beware it can be pricey!

Yesterday we bought a solid wood table and bench from a store called Firnhaber in Stuttgart Ost. Quite pricey but great quality and the service is second to none, which in Germany is quite unusual. Free delivery too.

The address is Talstraße 124, 70188 Stuttgart-Ost (gegenüber dem Gaskessel)

General question:

Is €1650 an outrageous price for a double (140x200cm) solid wood bed with 4 drawers underneath?

https://www.hoeffner.de/artikel/11109167

I am considering buying a new bed. The one I have is the MALM bed from IKEA I bought 7 years ago and want to buy something "nicer". I like this bed but €1650 seems a bit pricey. I have never bought such expensive furniture before, so I don´t know if this is a reasonable price to pay for a solid wood bed.

@ Aries6 - obviously, it depends upon the wood that is used for the bed, and on how much you like it!

Personally, I do not like the fact that it is made of "leimholz" - little bits of "massivholz" all glued together, and would rather spend my money on something that actually looks like it is made of one piece of wood.

But as I said, it really depends on how much you like the look of it, and I guess on how long you plan to use it - if you plan to use it every day for the next ten years, well, the cost is pretty cheap, isn't it?! On the other hand, if you get bored of your furniture on a regular basis, then you might want to reconsider...

You could check out those beds as a comparison.

https://moebelum.de/cms/index.php?id=25

They do Massivholz only,  I believe.   And also to order.  We have some furniture from there and the quality is excellent.  There is a shop in Munich,  too.

1,650 € seems quite pricey to me,  it might be the type  of wood, but beech isn't much cheaper. But then,  i haven't bought that many beds yet...

Just found this 33% off Gutschein Code that works...500€ Off

I would have to agree with @robinson100, we have a dining table that has the same effect...lots of smaller pieces glued together.  The odd join raises and can get quite grimy.

Edit: just saw the discount comes up even without the code...just their normal offer at the mo.  Google hoeffner Gutschein...maybe another code may work in addition.

The natives around here love Brucker (not sure if it's only NRW though). They have a similar bed for €660 less: https://moebel-brucker.de/produkt/bett-caro/ but it's ex-display.

Just remember that for some reason Johnny German doesn't like to include the slats when he sells you a bed, so you'll have to add a few hundred on top of that price.

@aries6 For what it is, I think the price they want you to pay for that bed is ridiculous. I buy from Zack Design, Riess Ambiente and Massivum almost exclusively here. I can vouch for the workmanship and quality. Of course, I have the odd piece of Ikea stuff in my office or the guest room, but in our living space we buy from these 3 places.

Update:

So I ended up buying a solid wood (beech wood) double bed with drawers on both sides from Möbelum in Munich. Went to their showroom in Munich and ordered the bed at the store. It costs about €1000. Had to pay €200 deposit. Was delivered 3 weeks later. Paid €42 for delivery.

Luckily the slats from my old IKEA bed fits the new bed, so didn´t have to buy slats.

Just assembled the bed yesterday. Still need to put in the drawers, which seem to be a bit more complicated to set up.

Overall happy with the purchase. Thanks for the tip!
