Posted 11 Aug 2016 Buchenau to Tutzing This Sunday we will ride from Buchenau to Tutzing on the Starnberger See. The 52 km journey will takes us past 3 lakes, one monastery and finally end up at a beer garden directly on the Starnberger See. Due to work on the Stammstreke this weekend, the ride will start at the Pasing Bahnhof. I will ride out from Schwabing to get there and I hope everybody not near Pasing finds there own way easily. We take the S4 to Buchenau. From there we ride over beautiful country side along the Amper river. After the ever so gentle start of our ride we will arrive at the northern tip of the Amersee where we can stop for a refreshing swim and some refreshing refreshments. The journey continues around the Wörthsee over to the Pilsensee and on to Herrsching. After taking another dip in the Amersee we will head up an invigorating hill to a nearby monastery - can you guess the name? We then head on to Tutzing and our last swim stop complete with an excellent beer garden where we can stay until late as Monday is a holiday I will meet you at the Pasing Bahnhof, Track 6/7 at 9:15. I will organize partner tickets for the S-Bahn but you are responsible for buying your own Fahrradkarte, costing €2,60, for your bikes. This is a map of the approximate route: map The signup will all be on meetup and limited to 15.
Posted 18 Aug 2016 As the weather forecast for Sunday is yet again rain, this week’s ride will take place on Saturday This week takes us from Erding across the relatively flat lands of the Erdinger Moos to one of Bavarias nicest biergardens in Haag an der Amper, Schloßallee After lunching there we continue on the more scenic, i.e. hilly, part of the ride, which will ultimately take us to another picturesque bier garden on the outskirts of Freising, Plantage After taking refreshments there we will continue on with a short ride to the S-Bahn station in Freising where you can either take the train back to Munich or should you wish cycle along the banks of the Isar back to Munich. The first part of the ride is fairly long, approximately 23km, so you should make sure you’ve had breakfast before we leave Erding. Total distance should be around 53km. I will meet you at 9:00am at Marienplatz S-Bahn downstairs in the area by the ticket machines near the top of escalators. I will organise Partner tickets for the S-Bahn and share the cost amongst you. You are responsible for buying your own MVV bicycle ticket, which costs €2,60. Posted 23 Aug 2016 Ampertal beer garden crawl A classic summer ride this Sunday with three particularly beautiful beer gardens and a bathing lake. Total cycling distance is 50 km, flat apart from one short hill to get to the first beer garden. We meet at 10 a.m. at the start of the ride at Feldmoching station (west side, by the bus stops). Get there with the U2 or S1. A München XXL ticket (€8.60) will get you to the start of the ride and back from the end. You’ll also need a bike ticket (Fahrradkarte, €2.60) for your bike (which you can take on both the U-Bahn and S-Bahn). From Feldmoching we’re quickly in open country, cycling past the rowing lake for an early lunch at Schlosswirtschaft Mariabrunn (photo) (15km). From there we head south along the Amper valley, following the river through Dachau, eventually peeling off to the bathing lake of Olchinger See and the Italian beer garden at Villa Romantica (22km). The beer garden is next to the lake, giving the opportunity for a swim for those that wish (as always, respect the water). We then continue along the valley to the final beer garden at the monastery in Fürstenfeldbrück (13km). The train station (S4) is next door, so you can head back to Munich as soon or as late as you wish. What to bring: A bike in good working order, sufficient cash (not cards), sunglasses and sun cream, water, rain gear, ideally repair tools and spare tire. To join, please sign up on Meetup. Posted 1 Sep 2016 Hallertau hop tour We meet at 9:29 a.m. at platform 24 at central train station. The train leaves at 9:44 and arrives at 10:18 in Moosburg. We will organize group MVV tickets for people(5-10€ per person), and you will need to buy you own bike ticket (MVV Fahrradkarte, €2.60). Whole day's cycling is about 48km with some noticeable ups and downs. We start our day by a gentle climb from Moosburg and then decent into the first Biergarten in Mauern shortly after. Pack in just enough calories, there will be some hard work ahead. After breakfast, we head toward Au in der Hallertau. Extreme terrain warning: Hops abundantly visible!!! This stretch involves another climb into Nandlstadt and then again decent into Au, where we'll have lunch at the Schlossbrauerei. You want some extra hops in your beer? No problem! When all the hunger is satisfied, it's time to start the appreciation by cycling more along the hops. We'll once again conquer the rugged terrain on our way to one of Bavaria's greatest Volksfest in Freising. If you have accumulated enough grumpiness from the hills, let it drown in a couple of Maß and some fine Bavarian music. If you still have a strong need for more cycling, Isar Radweg is outdoor to the left where you can cycle back to Munich. Otherwise, the train leaves from Freising frequently. Links to the map, https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1Z7no9bD2wEZ2GtqT8nUjrsPFSsU The weather situation is semi-optimistic on Sunday, so make sure to bring rain gear. There are quite a few climbs involved (hops hate flat area), so come mentally prepared. No passenger rail exist en route, meaning no opportunities to drop out and take the train home. We may also see harvesting tractors on small roads and they have priority. What to bring: A bike in good working order, sufficient cash (not cards), sunglasses and sun cream, water, rain gear, ideally repair tools and spare tire. Posted 20 Oct 2016 The weather should be dry but cool this Sunday so this weeks ride is almost a mirror image of last weeks. We head south along the east bank of the Isar, crossing over near Grünwald and making our first stop. Then we ride through Forstenrieder Park, keeping our eyes open for the wild pigs that reside there and then head North into Pasing where will make our second stop. After this we ride through the famous Hirschgarten and make our way east until we reach the Seehaus in the Englischergarten where we will make our final stop and end the ride. It will be cool, so bring warm clothing and please ensure that your bike has working lights. We should be back in Munich before it gets dark, but things sometimes go wrong and we get delayed. Here's a map of the approximate route. Please sign up on our meet- up page: Here
Posted 27 Oct 2016 As we have been south of Munich for the last few rides, this week we are heading north. We start at Pasing bahnhof and cycle along the leafy banks of the river Würm up to Dachau, where we make our first stop. After refreshments we head off to the Olympic Regatta lake and then on to Feldmochinger See for our second stop. After this we head back into Munich, riding through the olympic park and if the weather allows, stopping for a final drink at the Chinese tower in the English garden. The route is fairly flat, with only a few hills barely worth mentioning. The approximate distance is about 54km. Please ensure your bike has working lights as the nights are drawing in. Don't forget the clocks go back on Saturday night, so don't turn up an hour early. Posted 28 Oct 2016 Please note I've changed the start time to 9:30am as I'm a little concerned about it getting dark before we finish, due to the clocks changing.

The ride this Sunday will be north of Munich taking the S-bahn to Altomünster. We will meet at 8:45 at Marienplatz near the ticket machines on the first underground level. We will arrive in Altomünster around 10:00. We will then proceed across beautiful rolling hills, forests, and small villages. The first stop will be at a castle where Weißwurst will be on offer as well as great local beer. We will then proceed across more beautiful hills and forests arriving at our lunch stop, another castle complete with its own brewery! We will then proceed downhill to the flat lands of the Lech river valley and follow it to Augsburg where will will, yet again, rest our weary...legs and exercise our beer drinking arms. We will then take the train back from Augsburg to Munich. I will organize Bayern Tickets for the group. You need your own Deutsche Bahn bike ticket, not an MVV ticket. The Deutsche Bahn bike ticket costs 5 Euros. The Bayern Tickets costs can be found here: https://www.bahn.de/p/view/angebot/regio/regionale-tickets/bayern/bayernticket.shtml Ride length: approximately 50 kms Map to approximate route: https://goo.gl/WD0nzJ
