Posted 12 Sep 2014 Starnberger Spektakuläre Sun 14.Sep.2014 As the weather forecast is for 70% rain, we will make this one a cheeky wee jaunt in the rolling FLATS towards Starnberg and back to Munich. Total km will be approximately 50. No real hills to speak of (unless you are prone to complaining about hills, then there are two). Given the craptastic forecast, check back here Saturday night and Sunday morning for updates.

Posted 13 Sep 2014 Mike - given the weather, the numbers, the fact that most people will be out with the duathalon, the fact that the number 2 has written me privately to drop out...AND that my copilot has succumbed to the doggy version of Montezuma's Revenge... ...yes, let's *postpone* tomorrow. Good luck, though, to all those competing in Neufahrn!

Posted 2 Oct 2014 The forecast for Sunday isn't much good as usual so we'll do a mini-ride on SATURDAY that starts late so you can do yer groceries in the morning. This ride is one that I've planned and then cancelled on two separate occasions and I'll make it three times if not enough people sign up, so keep an eye on the thread. Meeting time on SATURDAY is 12 midday at Munich-Moosach station (S1, U3). From Moosach we meander through the 'burbs before joining the A99, following it a short way to the junction with the A92. We cross the motorway and head for our first break at the beer garden of Schloss Schleissheim. We then cross back over the motorway and head over to the River Amper, before soon leaving it via the only notable hill of the day. From there we roughly follow the course of the A92 again, up the next only notable hill of the day for a short break. From there it's down to the Isar and across the motorway to the end of the ride at Besucherpark, from where you can return to Munich with either the S1 or S8, depending on whether you're an East End Boy or a West End Girl. Total cycling distance is 45km with a very manageable 80 metres of ascent. Arrival time back in Munich between 6 and 7pm. Sign up below to join. Posted 7 Oct 2014 This week's tour is a little further afield to the Inn valley inside Austria. If offers beautiful views in the heart of the Alps with only limited and gentle climbing. For logistical reasons the tour is on ***SATURDAY***. There is one break en-route and a second at the end. Meeting time on Saturday morning is 9.30 a.m. by Platform 9 of Munich Hauptbahnhof (walk down Platform 11 and allow plenty of time to get there). We take the train to Kufstein, a direct journey taking one and a quarter hours. Upon arrival we set off initially along the River Inn, before heading onto and along the quiet Angerberg Plateau above the Inn valley, past the Mariastein pilgrimage church anchored on rocks above the plateau. This section contains the large majority of the uphill, but it's mostly gentle and there's only about 150 metres of height gain. The section ends with a rapid downhill to the River Inn, where a leisurely lunch awaits (22km). The afternoon section (27km) is virtually entirely flat as it roughly follows the course of the Inn back via Wörgl (which I mention only because I like the name) to Kufstein, where there's time for a nice cup of beer next to the river at the end of the ride. The route follows the usual mixture of bike paths, quiet roads, gravel tracks, river paths and motorway hard shoulders. Total cycling distance is about 50km. Expected arrival time back in Munich is 7.15 p.m. Sign up below to join. Link to map
