Cycling tours around Munich

So many people! And some new(?) faces, fantastic. Please, anyone unfamiliar with this group, read and understand this post:

 

Sunday Cycle Rides

 

It's generally accepted that you should be able to make basic repairs to your own bicycle, especially you should know how to repair a flat tire. We have enough very experienced riders who will always assist you when necessary, but it is unfair to simply expect that someone else will solve all your problems. Since the single most common repair is to a puncture, it is wise to bring a spare inner-tube of the correct size. This speeds the repair process - although performing a patch is not out of the question if you desire.

 

Let me reiterate the most important rule of this cycle group: Ride is subject to change without notice.

The second most important rule is: Have a great time.

 

Unless it is pouring with rain tomorrow morning (Sunday 31.08) - or I catch on fire in my sleep - this ride will proceed.

This week we head Geltendorf way for a little potter through the fields and forests east of Landsberg. Although the route only has two refreshment stops, it's a case of quality over quantity.

 

Meeting time on Sunday is 9.40am at Marienplatz S-Bahn station (lower level, near the top of the S-Bahn escalators). We head to Geltendorf (arrival time 10.45). From there we head west, with a couple of small hills before it levels out a bit. Crossing the Lech we arrive at lunch at a beer garden in Hurlach after about 20km. The afternoon's section is about the same length, initially following the Lech before peeling off and heading back towards Geltendorf, initially mostly flat but with some ups and downs later. The second stop is at the monastery of St. Ottilien, where we stop to consume some holy water and sacrilegiously good cake. From there it's only a short hop to the end of the ride back at Geltendorf.

 

Total cycling distance is around 50km. The route follows the usual mixture of quiet roads and gravel tracks. I will organise group train tickets but please buy your own MVV bike ticket (€2.50). Sign up below as usual to join.
