Shipping companies - removals UK <-> Germany

12 posts in this topic

Anyone got any tips for moving to England... near Manchester? I've got loads of stuff I want to move and don't know the best way to do it, i.e. car & ferry or plane & shipping my stuff.

Anyone been in the same predicament, or vice versa? Tips on car rental companies, ferries, airlines...

Thnx.

If yer moving near Manchester, get really good security on your car.

I'd just hire a wagon - Sixt are good over the long haul (avoid Hertz and Europcar... bastards!!!) drive the stuff there, then drive the empty wagon back. It is almost defo the cheapest option.

Hi,

when we moved to Munich from the UK last year I put a quotation request on Moving24 (you can change the language of the site to English, if necessary.)

Basically, you have two options: either you fill in a detailed form with all the stuff you want to move or send a short request, if you want a quotation for a certain weight/volume.

Afterwards removal companies will post their quotations in response to your request and you can pick the ones you prefer and negotiate further details with the companies directly.

Sorry cannot remember the name of the guy, but when we moved from London he came over from Stuttgart with a big box van - so we hired from the other way around as it were.

Anyway he was a Brit and had been living in Germany for 20 years. Nice chap. He turns up at our house in London and to make conversation I say "So how do you like living in Germany" and he says "Oh, I'd give anything to be able to move back". Nice optimistic start to my emigration :-)

My family is planning to move to Munich in early July. We've already received a few quotes from moving companies near London, but we would also like to get a few quotes from Munich. (Several people have told us that it might be cheaper to hire via Munich.) I tried to search on Google, but most results come up in German, and I'm not able to read them (yet!).

Can anyone recommend a moving company in the Munich area who can accommodate international moves? Also, if anyone has any experience moving from the UK, which is cheaper: hiring via Munich or London?

Thanks!

I just want to ship a carton full of books weighing about 10-15 Kgs (roughly 50 books) back home to India. Don't want to leave them behind. Anyone done this before? Any tips most welcome. Apparently, you also need to fill to out a customs clearance form as well.

It's always recommended to book with a removal company that specialises in the route you require rather than a generic company. This applies especially when moving between countries.
