Choosing a soundtrack for a move to Germany

46 posts in this topic

Moving from the UK now, I am listening to the Smiths a lot again. Morrissey's You Are the Quarry was my soundtrack for moving here three years ago.

I am wondering what my soundtrack for the move to Germany should be... it will happen as it will, but my iPod won't hurt much for any suggestions. I was thinking the Notwist, Shrink, but that's pretty much because it's the only German band I know I like.

Apologies, as always, if this question has been asked before, and I know it's silly, but I am finally getting excited about this move after four or five months hanging in the balance.

Are you familiar with wave music? Check it out at www.wavemusic.de. You can listen to samples of the music here.

I have volume 10 and volume 11 and they're the bomb!!! Can't get enough of this music.

The word "soundtrack" made me start thinking of movies and for some reason G.I.Blues (1960) popped into my head. Elvis Presley singing in English AND German. Quite appropriate, actually. :P

11 Zeugen - Wirtz

(especially 'Ne Weile Her, Mon Amour and Keine Angst)

Die Wahrheit Übers Lügen - Farin Urlaub Racing Team

(especially Gobi Todic, Die Leiche and Zu Heiß)

If they are a little rocky for you in comparison to Morrissey, give Wir Sind Helden a go - Soundso was their last album.

Modern Talking.

Basically anything from the 80s goes down a treat and if the artist once sported a mullet, then that's a real bonus.

"you're in the army now" by whoever sung that song

Status bleedin' Quo?!?! It's a soundtrack for moving to Germany, not the 7th circle of hell!

(Oh, hang on...)

Well, if we're already in the 80s... Alphaville, To Germany with Love? Though Summer in Berlin might also fit. Forever Young album anyway.
