SATOURDAY is back on again. The Museum people told me it wasn't going to run this summer, but it is.

So, this Sat. 31 July, get out there and see a few museums.

This Sat. 26 March is SATOURDAY

SATOURDAY is usually held the last Saturday of each month, when many of the museums of Frankfurt open their doors for free, as well as holding special events for families and kids. These events and workshops will be in German.

Each month has a special theme:

March - Understanding Train Stations

April - Writing Studios and Poets' Rooms

May - A City in Flux

Free Museums on SATOURDAY

* Archeology Museum, * Dom Museum, * Ikon Museum, * Kinder Museum (Childrens museum) * Judengasse Museum * Jewish Museum* Museum of Applied Arts * Museum of Modern Art * Deutsches Architeture Museum

You still have to pay to get into the following museums, even though some may have special workshops for kids and families * Goethe Haus, * Communication Museum, * Senckenburg Museum of Natural History, * Palmengarten, * Liebieg Haus, * Schirn

* Film Museum is closed for renovation until Spring 2011.

* Bible House is closed for renovation until Spring 2011

* Staedel is closed for renovation except for one temporary exhibition

* Historic Museum is basically closed for a minimum of 1 year.

The Icon Museum has an exhibit about Marilyn Monroe.

Caricatura museum should be free as well (it was last time) with an exhibit of Reiser drawing (jokes are in French, and translated in German).

Thank you Moondancer for these tips, here and in your blog.

It is SATOURDAY again this weekend, 30 April.

Historic Museum is now closed.

Also, if you have never been in St. Leonhards, Sunday is the last service there before they close to renovate and restore the church. It will probably be closed for almost 2 years as the archeologists want to get in there too. So, go see the church before they do all the renovations, including dropping the floor almost a meter, exposing wall paintings, original floor tiles, and so on.

Today is SATOURDAY, so here is your chance to see some museums for free.

This theme for May is: A City in Flux

I recently went to the Kunsthandwerk museum to see if their new exhibit about red laquerware was finished, but it just opened the other day. If you like Art Noveau items, the exhibit on this is really good and is now permanent. Parts of it used to be in the Villa Metzlar next door.

The Bible house will re-open tomorrow, the Film museum is supposed to re-open sometime by the middle of August and the Städel is scheduled for a fall re-opening. Have to admit that I haven't been out to the Leather Museum yet since it got renovated. This is a really interesting museum by the way.

If you are missing that model of old Frankfurt that used to sit in the Historic Museum, it is now located at the Sparkasse, directly opposite the Main Tower, on Neue Mainzer Strasse. It is free to go see it, but the bank is closed on Sat., Sun, and Holidays.

Hi

Does anyone know if Satuourday is still working? Sounds like a great way to see some museums without the charge. Guess we just missed September, but will it work for the lasst Saturday in October?

Of course some of us know! :D

SATOURDAY is alive and well, the last Sat. of each month, except for August, when the Museumsufer Fest is taking place.
