OK, so forgive me for not reading through all this drivel, and I'm sure someone's already pointed it out, but the guy signs up, posts this one post and vanishes?

Well he is Irish, so it is likely that he has forgotten his password already...or perhaps already gone to India! Chances are he might never come back...it's just not safe

My mentioning of Jane Seymour has probably prompted the original poster to spend a few hours photoshopping Jane's head onto loads of porn. No doubt currently mocking up a cover for a ficticious porno, "Dr Quim", far too busy to come back to TT.

Goa is great, but not real India. The biggest hazard is getting lost or treading on a poisonous something when walking home across the fields. If you go swimming watch out for the current in the water, it can be very strong. For food always go by recommendation and watch out for the usual stuff about hygiene. I was disappointed by the food we found in Goa, it was expensive and not up to the standards in many of the places I went to.

It has a very different character owing to its Portugese history and the numbers of tourists there. They both make it feel different from the rest of the country (not that I saw all India but a fair bit). It's still fun and very Indian in some ways, I remember walking home one night with the Mrs. through a field and the only light and sound came from an electrical transformer on a pole buring with a huge bright blue flame. Very weird.

If you happen to die while on holiday in India your wife be forced to perform Sati – it happened to a friend of mine: Sati (practice) (Wikipedia)

Also if you go hitch hiking over there then beware of the thuggee thugs: Sati (practice) (Wikipedia)

I loved Goa! I loved it so much I stayed there instead of heading up to Delhi. The beaches were awesome, I walked around in Bikinis and was never really bothered, yes, men stared at me, but they usually do when I wear a bikini anywhere.

The food was great.

I was often invited to a KingFisher with some Indian guy, but just smiled and said NO, and I was never gropped, molested or followed, the men in Istanbul and Rome were alot more agressive than those in India.

Took a taxi one day from Mumbai to a Nuclear Plant near the Gujarat border, and as we stopped for photos (and a pee break) a family ended up inviting us to their house for the evening meal, was wonderful food, and they were very hosptitable. I really enjoyed that night.

I think if you go with an open mind, but still a sense of caution, you will be fine. We were looking for cold beers in Mumbai, you had to go to a Licensed restaurant, the first one I went into, its was my male cotravellers that were uncomfortable not me, and we did find another place around the corner.

There is crap everywhere in the world happening, alot more rapes and assults happen than are reported, seems they are only reported when its a foreign women in a foreign country or a slownews day.
