There is also special hob-cleaning fluid. Go to a DM or Schlecker or somewhere and go look at the chemicals. Look for the bottle with a picture of a hob on it.

Has anyone seen one of those recently? I looked in 4-5 DM stores and couldn't find it anywhere.

I think that post was referring to what El Jeffo posted above.

 

Another tip that I would mention is that it's worth buying the Vileda Glitzi Pur Active. I've used these ever since I can remember and for light burns and marks a general wipe over will rid them without scratching the hob and other surfaces. Just be careful there are some other products that are similar in appearance. See below, this is what they look like.

2 to 3 table spoons of Waschsoda plus hot water and leave to soak overnight.

Yeah I have started lining it with baking paper.

Try a good old "Brillo" pad. They're a steel wool pad soaked in a cleaning agent.

It'll scratch the burnt fat off most surfaces.

 

But just that - they scratch, so you'll need to be sure that the scratches don't matter.

Just soak one in water for a minute and use damp.
