Where to buy turnip in Frankfurt

10 posts in this topic

I'm on the hunt for a single (as in one, not as in the opposite of married) turnip and as with most searches for foodstuffs in Germany I am finding it harder than I thought - has anyone seen them on their travels?

Isn´t Toom Markt a DIY store, or am I confusing things here somehow?

(sorry, just wondered!)

The wonderful and ever-reliable Scheck-In Center (threads passim) has a fine selection of turnips (assuming you mean "regular" turnips as opposed to swede/slash/rutabaga - which they also have - although with Burns Night imminent, they might start running out v soon).

Also - you sometimes find them lurking in those "Suppen" packs of mixed root vegetables.

Good luck on your noble quest.

You can get them in any REAL or Kaufland here in Darmstadt, but only for a few months over Xmas and January. Buy in bulk then blanch and freeze!

You can usually buy turnips at any of the produce markets in Frankfurt. These are in different neighborhoods every day. Tuesday is Dornbusch, Wednesday is Borhnheim, Thursday is Bockenheim, Friday is Schiller strasse and Konstablerwache, Saturday is Bornheim again. The Klein Markt halle would also have them, but they will cost more there.

While I can't say this for a fact, you might check out the Klein Markt Halle in the downtown area of Frankfurt. There seems to be a good selection of just about all kinds of fruits and veggies.

I have to second the produce market option. The one on Saturdays at Bornheim is great - my partner and I go every weekend. They sell most veggies and all sorts of fresh herbs. Am sure you'll find a turnip there!
