How about aiming for a 4th January meet up then? If this dull greyness improves, its so uninspiring. I'll have a new toy to play with soon too, about to order myself a new lens.

btw, if anyone if after new stuff in Germany, it seems worth looking at UK mail order - I always used this place when living in the UK http://www.warehouseexpress.com/Home/default.aspx and I noted they now do mail to Germany. Prices, especially with the current exchange rate, work out far cheaper than buying over here.

Just a thought for the new year, but how about if after our next outing we each choose our best photo from the day and post it onto Toytown for other TT'ers to vote for their favourite submission?

The winner with the most votes gets ... well to bask in the honour of posting the best pic I guess, unless we all chip in for a pot to go to the winner. Or at least buy them a stein of bier.

Maybe a bit risky given the perverse voting patterns of other TT polls, but it would showcase the undoubted photographic talent we have here (myself excepted), and encourage others to come along to our meet-ups and try and do better.

Edit: ah, I see after using the search facility that our Münchener friends have been doing their own photo competitions on TT. Let the Berliners show that they can do just as well!

I am back with a new lense, and can't wait to try it out. Anyone in for a photo trip on NY eve? Or is everyone set on getting drunk before the clock strikes 12?

Jade, I might be up for it. I'm working part of that day - but hopefully off early. Where are you thinking? :)

The main party will be at Straße des 17.Juni. I was thinking maybe to start out from Hauptbahnhof at about 8.30pm, head towards Brandenburger Tor, and make my way towards the Siegersaule for the countdown.

I'll start a list:

1. Jade (will bring a can of beer for the countdown)

2. Phoenix-Rose

3.

k if we do go into the party at the Gate/Siegersaule -

a) it usually is about 1 million people;

B) expect to be dodging fireworks in addition to people (every time I've been there they are shooting them at each other instead of in the sky) and

c) They don't usually let you bring in your own drinks (no glass bottles, etc.)

It's lots of fun - but be aware that there's lots of people with open cups/etc that aren't very sober so you could run the risk of having it dumped on the camera... and the later it gets, the more chance of that.

@phoenix-rose

Its my first time in Berlin for new year's celebration, which is why I chose the obvious spots. But I chose Siegersaulle instead of Brandenburger Tor becuase I thought there might be more people at the latter location. And I have enough pics of the Tor to wallpaper my apartment.

But if you have other suggestions, I am open to them. How about Alexander Platz or Zoo Garten - do they normally have fireworks display there as well?

The "official city" party usually runs between the Brandenburg gate and the victory column itself, and people pack into the Tiergarten. I don't know about what's at Alexanderplatz or otherwise... and I don't mind going there - i just wanted to prepare you for a crowd...
