I miss Target stores while living in Germany

With the money Klum makes, why is she shopping at Target?

Because Target is made of AWESOME! I really don't miss much about the States after so many years here, but I always go to Target at least once when I go back.

Aren't Tesco and Sainsburys just grocery stores? Target has some food, but also pretty much everything else. Clothes, hardware, music and DVDs, some furniture, kitchen stuff, etc. A lot of etc.

SuperTarget is a full-sized supermarket plus a regular Target store. Not as many ready-meals as Tesco's, say, but lots of processed stuff. It's a lot like V-Markt (ever heard of that, bluedave? ;)) but with much better stuff and less alcohol.

Regular Target is a department store, with clothes (including cheap designer lines), sportswear, toys, books, greeting cars and partyware, school supplies, sporting equipment, small appliances, domestics (towels, bathroom deco, kitchen stuff), electronics, a pharmacy, cosmetics, as well as some groceries (no produce, though.)

Target is known for well-designed and trendy, but cheap, stuff. Higher class than WalMart.

Nope Tesco and Sainsbury also sell everything and have their own brands, for instance Asda ( Walmart in the US ) have a line called George.

Edit: reply to Alala

Target didn't open in my neck of the woods until after I defected.

Oh, okay. So then, yes, probably, Target is like Tesco and Sainsbury.

I would classify Tesco and Sainsbury (department store parts of them) more to Wal-Marg or K-Mart.

Target is FAR FAR FAR better.

IMHO, no comparison at all!

Surely you got them in New Zealand?

There are no Target stores in NZ.

There are also no shoes in my size apart from in kids' departments in NZ. Feet like canoes, that lot.

Would however love The Warehouse (from Oz & NZ) - actually all my bedding on my bed right now is from them. Great gear.

None of the Target stores where I come from had food, well they had candy and stuff but not 'food'. Just yesterday as the moving company was packing my stuff for my return home, there was a bag from Target in my shrank that I didn't remember what was in it. I guess I bought some linen while home 2 years ago and never took it out of the bag. Think its too late to return the stuff? :)

I return home on the 13th and made sure to plan a day of shopping for Sunday :) I want to abuse the Sunday shopping power to its fullest. Since my mother will be my chauffeur I'm sure Target will be one of our destinations (along with Gap, Marshal's, Aeropostale and Timberland).

I guess whether you take the kids with you shopping or not depends on how cheap you can find airfare :) I got my ticket for 458€ (bought it last month) - MUC>FRA>ORD.

I think the heirarchy is Wally World < Kmart < Target

Maybe Kmart is worse than wally world, I haven't been to one in over a decade.

First there was Woolworths, but they didn't have it all. Then came K-Mart, and they had "everything" plus the blue-light special. Walmart came along offering everything and food but the clothes were a bit dodgy. Target came in with "real" designer stuff as well as everything but the blue-light special.

This thread is making me homesick... how depressing/pathetic is it when you miss an amazing store with great deals more than anything else in the States? Haha. Oh, might as well add TJMaxx onto the list as well. Screw H&M's and Kaufhof on every corner, give me a Target and a TJMaxx and I will be set for life in this country!
