Restaurants offering gluten-free food near Bremen

7 posts in this topic

Hello,

My sister is coming to visit and she can only eat gluten-free products. Does anyone know of any restaurants in Bremen or the vicinity that have experience of this?

Thanks in advance

Short answer is no but I have a couple of websites that might help.

http://www.querfood.de/ this stocks gluten free food to order online.

http://www.dzg-online.de/english.41.0.html This is the German gluten free society. Its in English and has a request for the chef link which advises how to ask for gluten free food. Not sure how good your German is but maybe you could print it out on a card for her to carry around?

You could also possibly email and ask them if they know of any restaurants?

Hope that helps a bit.

Wys...

Thanks very much for your suggestions.

We actually went to two restaurants and explained the situation and both were very helpful. My sister got a super meal in both cases.

We went to Feldmann's Bierhaus on Schlachte

Although they didn't know anything about it I explained the situation in detail and they made my sister a really nice meal from scratch. Couldn't have been more helpful.

We also went to "das alte Rasthaus" in Kastendiek (on the B51 between Fahrenhorst and Bassum) and they had had lots of experience with it and also produced a great meal. My sister could have chosen any fish/ meat/ salad on the menu and they would have cooked it gluten free. Was excellent. Watch out for the website though as when I opened it my anti-virus programme said it had a virus. Has a wonderful garden in nice weather.

Reformhaus is a natural store that has gluten-free products and even the drug store DM has a gluten-free section. There is a better selection of gluten-free in Germany than in America which really surprises me!
