Adolf Hitler new at Madame Tussauds in Berlin

Adolf Hitler is back in Berlin. This time as a wax figure at the Madame Tussauds museum. According to an article in the Times, Berliners may threaten to take their children to see him if they don't behave. The Jewish community is uncertain whether it's appropriate to display such a villain here as the museum's primary purpose is to entertain, not to educate.

Times Online: Adolf Hitler finally returns to Berlin.

See the Times' archived news article of Hitler's death in Berlin, 1945: Hitler dead.

Update: On the opening day a vandal ripped the wax figure's head off. See news details below.

I am sure there are no Neo-Nazi's pushing to have there picture taken with wax Hitler in London <_<

Being offered a documentary EVERY evening on the History channel or somewhere else about the 2nd WW I am sure that a piece of wax wont make much of a difference. There is nothing to hide anyways just all lot of "face the facts" for all around not just for Germans.

Man rips off wax Hitler's head

A police statement says the 41-year-old man tore off the head of the figure shortly after the museum opened to the public on Saturday morning. They say officers were alerted and the man arrested.

Thanks for posting that article about Hitler being decapitated. I didn't think he would last very long there. The article didn't give many details about the man who did it. But one thing for sure it was someone who had some strong emotional feelings.

This from CNN: Man beheads Hitler waxwork

A man raced into Berlin's Madame Tussauds wax museum Saturday and ripped the head off a waxwork of Adolf Hitler, police said. Police said the 41-year-old entered the exhibit shortly after the museum doors opened and "made for the Hitler figure," scuffling with a guard assigned to protect it and the manager before tearing the head off the life-size statue. ... Saturday was the opening day of the Berlin branch of the famous Madame Tussauds wax museum.

There has been a Hitler wax figure in a privately owned museum in Hamburg for the past 60 years and it has to date never been touched.

Whatever you think about the vandal this was great free publicity for Mme Tussauds. Second man through the door on opening day! Now everyone knows about Hitler's bust. No doubt they'll have it fixed and back in place in no time to keep the crowds coming.

Thanks Renia! But they have a Dance aerobic course only once a week

Wrong thread, bidul.

I don't think Adolf Hitler is into aerobic classes, neither is the guy who ripped his head off...

A former police officer who ripped off the head of a Madame Tussauds waxwork of Adolf Hitler last year was fined €900 in damages by a Berlin court on Tuesday.

The 42-year-old former Berlin cop told the court that he didn't want to hurt anyone with the stunt but said it had "been necessary".

The man, who is on the dole, said the move followed a bet he took with friends a day prior to the museum's opening last year and was carried out "to save face." He added that he and his friends had all thought the exhibition with the controversial Hitler waxwork was "completely inappropriate."

vandalism is more inappropriate, than a historical figure on display... dont like it? then dont go. its called "freedom", you silly Germans... I know it pisses you off that others express their freedom of expression and speech, but get over it... that is the cost of real democracy... having to listen or being subjected to others that differ from you... learn tolerance.

hitler is a scumbag, agreed... but instead of making some "stunt" in protest... why not do something more to make others aware of the potential dangers of extreme thinking, etc. what a joke.

Is SKershaw aware that,

Hitler was a scumbag. He is dead. He was one of the most important figures in modern history and it is important to keep the memory of what he did with the Germans alive and the horror of how it turned out.

The guy who performed the, 'stunt', is an ex Police academy student turned leftist who had been out all night getting wrecked with his mates. He made a bet and then won it the next day.

"potential dangers of extreme thinking". I would think that through if I were you as it sounds like a sport.

Some smokers say the same about non smokers...

infringing on other's rights isnt freedom... smoking and endangering other's health (proven) around you cant be compared to freedom... dont be silly... smoking isnt a freedom.

for example:

if you want to be a holocaust denier, it is your freedom to do so... but if you publicly incite violence and encourage others through such a message to take action, infringing on other's rights, then it is no longer a freedom.

if you are against animal abuse or say "anti-fur", that is your right, but as soon as you throw paint on someone wearing fur, you have infringed on someone's elses rights?

get it?
