  1.   BASIC FACTS ABOUT THE SCHOOL The International School Westpfalz (ISW) is a coeducational, full-day international school for children aged 4-17 years. ISW was founded in 2017 by the "SBW Haus des Lernens" organisation (Switzerland). With around 150 students from over 17 nations, ISW offers a caring family atmosphere both for expatriates and local families. Expatriate families enjoy the social network at ISW which eases integration into a new location, while local German parents benefit from the innovative educational program and English language instruction.     ISW offers a full day program from 8am until 5pm. While the main language of instruction is English, German classes are also taught daily to all students. Before- and after-school adult supervision is available each day to students from kindergarten up to grade 6. ISW also provides a wide range of after-school activities including music, drama, art and sports.   TWO CAMPUSES IN THE ZUKUNFTSREGION WESTPFALZ    ISW has two campuses based in Ramstein-Miesenbach and Landstuhl. Campus one in Ramstein-Miesenbach is designated solely for the Kindergarten and Primary Years (Early Years – Year 3) and Campus two in Landstuhl houses our Upper Primary Secondary School (Years 4-11).     The International School Westpfalz is located in the West Palatine region of Germany. More than 500,000 people live in this area. Vast forests, rolling hills and red cliffs shape the image of the region.   The West Palatinate comprises the three independent cities of Kaiserslautern, Pirmasens and Zweibrücken as well as the four districts Kusel, Donnersbergkreis, Kaiserslautern and Südwestpfalz.   People from across the globe come to the Westpfalz region. 140 different nationalities live in the area and it has the largest English-speaking community in Germany. 50,000 Americans live in and around Kaiserslautern, the largest US military base outside of the USA.   Everyone is familiar with the Palatinate Forest, the largest continuous forest area in Germany, a one-of-a-kind piece of nature and touristic highlight in the region. But the West Palatinate offers much more than beautiful landscapes. Cosmopolitan and friendly people, attractive employers and an environment with an innovative spirit invite you to lay your roots in the West Palatinate.    ISW IS A CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL   Our school is a Cambridge International School, registered to offer education programmes from Cambridge Assessment International Education, part of the University of Cambridge. We are proud to be part of the world’s largest international community of schools, preparing students for life with Cambridge qualifications that are valued by universities and employers around the world.   The Cambridge Pathway gives students a clear path for educational success. We shape its curriculum around how our students learn – with a wide range of subjects and flexible ways to offer them. Our programmes inspire students [or your child] to love learning, helping them discover new abilities and a wider world.   ISW offers the Cambridge Primary, IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) and A-level programs, and is an accredited examination center for Cambridge International Examinations, offering the full range of English examinations. ISW is recognized by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate as an accredited supplementary school ('anerkannte Ergaenzungsschule').   The school is owned and managed by the famous Swiss education provider, SBW Haus des Lernens, which has over 40 years of experience in the field of private education, currently managing more than 10 schools throughout Switzerland and Germany. 4. If you are looking for an English-speaking school for your children, you have come to the right place:   The Jules Verne Campus is a state-approved bilingual elementary school, including all-day concept and supervision throughout the school holidays. Since September, 2015, a high school ("Gymnasium") is part of the Jules Verne Campus as well.      German and English natives as teachers Our goal is to provide a long-lasting, bilingual, and intercultural education. We stress the importance of internationality, global thinking, and entrepreneurship. Individual learning and a healthy, balanced lifestyle—with freshly prepared meals and daily sports and exercise—are keystones of our appoach. At Jules Verne Campus, we encourage and challenge children according to the principle of language immersion – with native speakers in small groups with a maximum of about 24 children teaching with methods that address the individual needs of students.   Following and surpassing the official Bavarian elementary school curriculum With our special subject “Curiosology”, we nurture and encourage children’s natural curiosity as a source of enjoyment, creativity, and success. Based on scientific evidence that shows there is a direct connection between physical activiy and brain development, we have created a diverse program of daily physical activity at Jules Verne Campus. Our program is age-specific and incorporates aspects of aerobic exercise, coordination, and mental focus.   PYP- oriented international branch In addition to the bilingual teaching, where lessons are held in both German and English in almost equal shares, an "international branch" is available where the lessons are held mainly in English. The international branch is designed having in mind the curriculum of international schools, so the Bavarian curriculum is supplemented by the Primary Years Programme (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO). This new branch aims at supporting parents moving to Germany or planing to move abroad.
