  4. Free Education/Entertainment during COVID-19 time

Entertainment: I'm old school, so surf around You Tube and find lots of older films and series there to help distract myself. Some series I've enjoyed from the dusty past:   Upstairs Downstairs: Lillie: Land Girls: All Creatures Great and Small: Father Ted: The Young Ones:

  9. Why are you happy today?

My sister, whom I haven't seen in 16 years, called me up in Skype and we talked for hours about everything under the sun, like we hadn't been out of touch at all.
  10. My cat is acting really restless and also bored. He's an indoor and outdoor guy in our now incredibly quiet small village.   Two days ago I spied him looking in the low front window of a house down the street and saw inside was one of his love/hate cat buddies, sleeping all cozy in a cardboard box. They would compete for turf and chase one another if not also fight one another and pee-mark one another's outdoor boundaries. Now my cat just goes in/out the cat flap a zillion times a day, is constantly scratching on cupboard doors, windows to go in/out as well. I have tried to get him to play but he's not too into it.   I have the impression people haven't heard the news: cats and dogs don't transmit COVID-19. Maybe the locals are concerned someone will do their pets allowed outside harm. The thought that someone might kick my cat to keep it at a distance has crossed my mind. He is very social and loves to schmooze with strangers. Maybe that's what's happening and why he is so aggitated. Lots of speculation here. So I keep picking him up and holding him now and then and that seems to be what he likes the best. Being close and feeling secure.

  20. McD employees that have full contracts are getting Kurzarbeit but the newer employees got let go. One of my favorite newbie co-workers did say, 'well, Aldi is hiring' yesterday. I had no idea at the time there was a kind of deal between McD and Aldi but it makes me happy! Aldi is getting some really hard working and good workers in the transfer!
  21. Why are you happy today?

I don't mean to hog this thread and here I am with another post. Sigh. I think a lot of the weird behavior, be it panic shopping, freaking out, agression etc. in 'the age of corona' is fear of death.   At the same time I am living with you through the coronavirus situation, I'm sitting here knowing my neighbor up in the house next to me where the light's on and her family is by her, is dying, and not from coronavirus at all. And I have never been so close to a dying person. I think many of us haven't. Especially the youth who are now hanging out with large groups to pass the time or tell this virus to 'fuck off' in whatever way because they are young and invincable (like I once was, you too?). I don't have the courage to interrupt her family and ask if I can talk to her on the phone even. I think it must be a really private time up in that house. But I want to know about dying, her dying, and I haven't been able to ask.   So I got to looking about a bit I came across the short series called 'Death Land' which is about death anxiety:  In about 15 minute bites, the interviewer, who is also anxious about death, explores many aspects of what it means to die. Her journey helped her and just watching this today I am also feeling better. Give it a look if you are feeling anxious about death lately. There are 7 angles that are explored an an 8th re-cap episode.
  22. Why are you happy today?

Yesterday I managed not to flip out on the job while serving guests, though their hands still were grazing mine. Wash, wash, wash. I saw the worried faces on some customers and I got back to sounding cheerful and saw it seemed to surprise but also, maybe help them, a bit. Also got to learn some new work skills because our team is now very small. I enjoyed having something different to do! And the current work schedule says I only have one day of work over the next 10 days; I am relieved about that. Less exposure to the masses so it was back to a walk in nature today for me.
  23. You can make your own:   1 cup all-purpose flour 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt  I noticed a lot of bread yeast was gone as well as my usual cheap 'add water and stir' weekly bread mix at REWE. So we decided to go for various kinds of musli as the breakfast now instead and have not, so far, regreted it. Only thing is, now we use a bit more toilet paper.
  24. Why are you unhappy today?

The renter, who is dying of lung cancer, was sent home from the hospital today. They needed her bed. She will die in her old apartment in the company of her sister and son. We have no idea if they can get any kind of Pflege helper to come or hospice but I assume they have given her a lot of drugs to ease her end.
