  1. Neu eingebürgert. Pass oder Perso oder beides?

I got both because my UK passport was near expiry*. When your Irish one runs out it might be easier/and or cheaper to get the German one, but otherwise I can't really see any reason why I would need 2 passports, unless I was traveling somewhere where a visa was needed for one nationality but not the other.   I've not bothered to renew my UK passport and after the stuff some folk posted on another thread I may never bother. Agree 100% about the Perso though, get one of those anyway cos it's a handy document to have in all sorts of circumstances.   Oh and congratulations and welcome to the club :).   *and because I am a little child inside who was excited to get new documents.
  2. Yeah I read all this and thought 'Fuck that', I guess I'll not have a British passport for a while then.
  3. Coronavirus

@MikeMelga Can you not phone a friend or a neighbour to conduct the sale for you? If you are in isolation following your trip to Portugal, then you really shouldn't meet up with anyone until the wait period is over.
  4. Brexit: The fallout

Jesus, has it really come to this.
  5. Hmm yes it does if if you just click on it. However if you copy and paste the text it goes to the right place. Dunno what happened there.. I've reported the post and asked if it can be updated.   Edit to add: And editor Bob has now fixed it for us.
  6. German Kitchen Appliances in the USA

Yes I can see that is possible and I sad as much, but this thread is about things from Europe going to the US.
  7. German Kitchen Appliances in the USA

Based on the fact that Geman plugs are 100% reversible, I call bullshit on the polarity issue. It MAY be true coming the other way from USA to Germany, but from Germany to US, nah.
  8. Einbürgerung brief

I don't think the guy at the other end will really pay much attention, but I would use something like:-   Anbei finden Sie einen Einkommensnachweis für meine Anstellung in der XXX Klinik,
  9. What made you smile today?

“Some people are like Slinkies. They aren't really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to my face when I push them down a flight of stairs.” ― Patricia Briggs, Iron Kissed
  10. Looking to move to Germany from Scotland After Brexit

You could also take a look at the German gov's "Make it in Germany" site which should contain all the relevant rules.
  11. US Presidential Election Fallout

@Lorelei I can't find any specific numbers reported on how many got in, but this article from the Washington Post says there were 8000 protestors on Pennsylvania Avenue and 1400 Capitol Police officers on duty. It also covers some of the background regarding the callout of the national guard etc.  The pictures attached to this article from the NYT shows some of the number who were actually inside, and some scenes from outside, it looks seriously unpleasant.
  12. US Presidential Election Fallout

John, some questions are more than just questions, for example  "Have you stopped beating your spouse?" "Which kind of dog do you prefer poisoning?" Loaded questions like this are used so often as a dishonest debating technique that when you do this, you call into doubt your integrity. They are 'just questions' but they are also just bullshit. When you get called out on a loaded question like this and then raise the defense of "Just Asking a Question" then in come circles,  it is called 'JAQing off'.    The simple fact is that they were not there to overthrow Trump so hypotheticals such as the one you pose serve no meaningful purpose except mental masturbation.
  13. Brexit: The fallout

Yes and no, from 2017 to 1st Jan, the money collected from the tampon-tax in the UK was used for Women's charities, but presumably now that it isn't being collected, it won't be spent there either. I can't find a clear answer one way or another right now, but I wouldn't be surprised if there is no "tampon tax fund" next year.
  14. Digital Telephones

The  Ascom Eurit 40 is an isdn phone, explicitly listed as being for " Euro ISDN". I know nothing about the phone system in NZ, so I can't say that SP is wrong,  but I wouldn't be so sure that they will work either. Checking a bit deeper, it looks like NZ uses DSS1 what I can't find out is if E-DSS1 and DSS1 are the same or even compatible. I can't see that the phones themselves have much value in Germany since according to this wiki page  new ISDN lines are not available anymore in Germany and old ones are expected to be phased out completely over the next couple of years.   I would say dump them and get new phones in NZ, but if you want to take them and try them when you get there then you might be lucky.
  15. Nigerian Embassy website does not work

The website you linked is not ever going to work, the html code links back to itself when you click on that link. I'm not entirely convinced it's even the correct embassy website (google seems to return many different possible links). Looking at the html code of the website you linked this particular line really made me pay attention:- <img src="https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/bc/Coat_of_arms_of_Nigeria.svg/1208p x-Coat_of_arms_of_Nigeria.svg.png" style="width: 50px; height: 50px;"> Why would an official embassy website reference a wikipedia link for the coat of arms of the country, which could be edited and changed by anyone at any time?
  16. Coronavirus

Not much point traveling to the UK yet. If you are in a group that would be getting vaccinated right now, then traveling would be a crazy thing to do. As the roll-out accelerates and more people start getting the jab, it still probably won't be worth it because I assume that the same will apply for the other 3 home nations, but I can't be arsed to check.
  17. What are you listening to right now?

For some reason today this keeps going round in my head.
  18. Brexit: The fallout

In 2016, the European parliament voted to start the process to allow EU countries to abolish this tax. The UK was the only country in Europe pushing this change, so now that we have left the EU, it is less likely that the tampon tax will be abolished throughout Europe, meaning millions of people who need tampons and sanitary towels will have to continue paying this absurd tax. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/dec/31/tampon-tax-government-axes-vat-on-sanitary-products   So "Yeah Brexit!!! Fuck off women of Europe" I guess. So much for solidarity and sisterhood.
  19. Exactly this, but only after you paid the bill for making the change.
  20. post-Brexit HMRC personal allowance for EU citizens ...

S56 was amended by The Taxes (Amendments) (EU Exit) Regulations 2020 so that line about " a national of an EEA State " is altered to include UK nationals. So nothing changes for anyone (This year).
  21. And just for future searchers, I've now asked the internet archive to archive the page, and they have done so here:   https://web.archive.org/web/20201219172048/https://media3.bsh-group.com/Documents/5600007910_A.pdf
  22. Posting a used phone to the UK... import duty?

You could reasonably go here:- https://www.mazumamobile.com/sell-my-mobile Get a quote for it and use that as the basis for your 'valuation'.
  23. Brexit: The fallout

OK Sure, but only if the UK has to meet ALL the conditions we would place on any other new member. Full Euro membership, no 'Rebate' on contributions, full Shengen membership etc etc.   After the 2019 election where it was already very clear what they were voting for, there really cannot be a 'free' way back in.
  24. Brexit: The fallout

You believe wrong. You must have an official ID but you don't need to have it with you. I can't be bothered to find a better reference but see wikipedia here and in german here.
