  1. GAP in Anmeldung

If you were in Germany the whole time, why did you deregister at all? The only time anyone does that is when moving abroad. Normally when you register a place, your previous registration is canceled automatically - even when you move to a different city in Germany. That's why they're suspicious of your case.   You can certainly register a hotel, a friend's place, or an Airbnb as your current abode, but the covid situation has really gummed up the bureaucracy in that regard - plus some cities (like Berlin) have a permanent backlog.   Assuming you can provide evidence that you were in Germany the whole time - such as bank statements indicating regular purchases/charges at local businesses - it shouldn't be difficult to convince them. Just say you didn't know what you were supposed to do and made a mistake. If you're polite and apologetic (and assuming no fiscal damage was caused by your deregistration), they might waive any potential fines.
  2. 3G in Restaurants?

Hey, you poor scapegoat minority (which you're not, since you've been vaxed): the Auschwitz Museum has something to say about your scapegoat minority status:
  3. 3G in Restaurants?

Steve Martin covered this back in the 1970s:   "Hey, do you mind if I smoke?" "No, do you mind if I fart?"

How else would Elon get Brits to pay for the new "Cor, blimey!" mode?

  7. 3G in Restaurants?

The content won't be any less crap, though.
  8. According to Spiegel Online, the parties of the likely new coalition government have agreed on the "controlled sale of cannabis to adults for recreational purposes by licensed businesses" - as stated in a joint paper (heh heh) by the Health and Care coalition working group.   I've been in Germany for over 30 years and never thought I'd see the day. I guess there's some life in the old body parliament after all. It's probably too much to hope that some Spätis get licensed, so you can get good ganja 24/7, but there's always the Apothekennotdienst, right?
  9. What's the issue with dual nationality?

Always look on the bright side: if that happens, at least we can smoke it... legally!
  10. American-German Dual Citizenship for Child

With a little luck, we 'Murcans ll have a very merry Christmas and a happy new year!
  11. Things to ponder

Is there a special place in hell for people who use accent marks instead of apostrophes?   I sure hope so.
  12. Arbeitsamt thinks I was employed when I wasn't

Can we please keep the conversation on this to one thread?   Yes, if you can reasonably prove that you never received notification of any of this, I think there's an excellent chance that the judgment will be voided. As I mentioned in the other thread, you'll probably need a lawyer to navigate this particularly tricky corner of German bureaucracy. The district attorney has already indicated that they plan to pursue it even though the underlying cause has been rectified, because the situation has been fucked up enough that they have no other choice on their own prerogative. You'll need a lawyer to unfuck it.
  13. Scary letter from Staatsanwaltschaft

In that case, you should stop trying to contact lawyers, lest you get two bills from two different ones for the same matter.   If you'd like to send me the address and phone number of the district attorney's office via PM, I could try to find an alternative phone number for you.
  14. Scary letter from Staatsanwaltschaft

Sorry, but there's no way to tell. Have you tried calling the provided phone number? Is your German good enough to quote the case number and ask if they've received your latest correspondence?   I encourage you to keep calling lawyers in any case. Emphasize the urgency of the matter.
  15. Arbeitsamt thinks I was employed when I wasn't

Mine, too, but in their little bureaucratic corner, all the boxes have been checked, so computer says no.   It's fairly obvious that some paperwork was lost - perhaps several times - at some point. Did you move in 2019, by chance?
  16. What's the issue with dual nationality?

I'm cautiously hopeful, too, but anyone who was here during the SPD-Green government reign will remember that dual citizenship was proposed way back in 1998, only to be torpedoed by Hessian CDU scumbag Roland Koch and his petition campaign against the "Doppelpass". In fact, he rode this race-baiting campaign all the way to becoming Premiere of Hesse the following year.   Der Spiegel remembers, too.   I hope Germany has made enough progress (and that the future government parties have grown bigger balls) in the decades since that there won't be a repeat.
  17. Arbeitsamt thinks I was employed when I wasn't

No, they don't. The verdict was issued in 2019 and is now legally binding, because the appeal period has already passed without response. It's a bureaucratic SNAFU, to be sure, but one that will require legal expertise to resolve.   Stop giving bad advice. You're not helping anyone and you can do real harm if the OP listens to you.
  18. Scary letter from Staatsanwaltschaft

This part says that if you believe the penalty order is unlawful, you should tell them so. I'm no law-talking guy, but I believe if you object to the order, it will stop the clock on any enforcement - at least until you can find legal support. I hope you've done this already. If you haven't, do it NOW.   Feel free to PM me if you need any help with the German phrasing.
  19.   That is correct, if it all came from the same parent. If you have any other surviving relatives, you could eliminate that tax burden by "sourcing" the gifts through them. As I mentioned, you can receive €200k from each grandparent or even €20k from each sibling, cousin, aunt, and uncle, and other distant relative you have.
  20.   He could theoretically get €1.6 million over 10 years by receiving €400k from each of his parents and €200k from each of his grandparents (assuming they're still alive).
  21.   But you contradict yourself: recent figures show that the unvaccinated are 14 times more likely to be hospitalized with covid-19 than the vaccinated. So if you really want to stay out of the hospital, get your fucking shots.
  22. 3G in Restaurants?

      For Kirchensteuer purposes, yes.
