    Now, this is what I dont understand... when you have a server in a data center like these guys will have, there is always a back-up server dedicated to you...

    Anyone got any other ideas?

    The only way to get true redundancy is with at least one co-location, and some kind of auto failover software.  Doing that costs lots of extra money.

  7. So, after some considerable nonsense - Here's the details for Sunday's ride.

    We will start in the sleepy little suburb of Poing, head south-east until we turn towards due south, then later we turn to the west.

    It's a very easy 55 km, with two stops, although the exact location of the first stop at about km 25-27 is still TBD.   Don't get all excited about the distances, it's really flat.  And when I say flat, I mean something like this:

    and...

    Here's a map of the proposed route:

  9. The Unix Philosophy covers this idea, and has been well understood since the late 1970s.  Even before then, the idea of making things as simple as possible - and no simpler - was well understood.  The problem is that software developers take decades to really understand what is meant by some of these maxims, and try everything else along the road to discovery.

    ===== LIMITED TO 35 ========

    As per last year, there will be a secret santa, or to put it better, a shit santa. This will follow the rules of Schrottwichteln:

    1. Find a gift. This should be as kitchy/tasteless/embarrassing as possible.

    2. Wrap it up so neither it nor you can be identified.

    3. Bring it to the party.

    4. Everyone gets a chance to select one random present.

    5. They may keep it... or exchange it with a previously unwrapped present.

    Hilarity ensues. Do not forget! It is a chance to dump your crap
