  1. Things to ponder

So what do we read in the boys' faces ? Trump isn t taking her seriously. Are the others ?
  2. Things to ponder

Don t get me wrong, people. I am not thinking of broadcasting it. But i don t feel inclined to hide it either. I was specifically thinking about my parents. If you say nothing you are hiding it. If you do, you are blabbing. My daughter does not have any regular contact with them. It s not going to be the first topic of conversation when she does.   Also, i see the same pattern of insularity in her behaviour as in other gays i know. No doubt a defence mechanism.
  3. Things to ponder

Blimey. It s complicated. And beyond me. No win situation ? We all face battles one way or another.
  4. Three-word story

    that be not
  5. Why are you happy today?

    Ivy is pretty much indestructible.
  6. Things to ponder

I beg to differ with that last statement. I am indifferent to people s colour but it doesn t mean i don t see it. Same for gays. You can t unsee it. That doesn t mean it necessarily matters. Weird argument you put forward. I really don t get it.
  7. Outdoor lighting - do solar lights really work?

If it s dangling round her neck the light will likely be pointing more towards the floor rather than straight into an oncoming person s face. Unless that person is a dwarf... ah, as above. Saw bramble s comment after posting.
  8. How to resign!

My inclination in a teutonic environment would be to do it strictly by the book. Things go weird once you resign. The Hermans are big on loyalty and get offended easily IME.
  9. Bullying or harassment in the work place

Excellent. But i would remove your post quick. Discrétion...
  10. Three-word story

    'Tis better thus.
  11. Read the words very carefully. No substance in that article, just a load of 'we fear... may... could...'   Just more disgraceful journalism from The Guardian.
  12. What's got you flummoxed today?

The wife has a problem. Clearly.
  13. What irritated you today?

    2.7 ? A mere hiccup.
  14. Outdoor lighting - do solar lights really work?

Agree. Wholeheartedly.   They switch off the street lights from 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. as a cost-cutting measure in our village. We all love the new nocturnal darkness. No increase in criminal activity has ensued.
  15. Things to ponder

    Thank you.
  16. Bullying or harassment in the work place

I used to think this way. And only fight those battles you can win (the boys' club is against you by the sounds of it.) But unfortunately inadequate idiots are thick on the ground and it may be out of the chip-pan and into the fire. History can repeat itself. You'll only know afterwards. Auntie Helen has made a good transition... in another thread. For now (sorry to be so dour). I got fed up of having to play musical chairs and be the one to give up the comfort of a nice, warm seat. It seemed to keep happening. Must have been me, right?   You need to decide if and how much the job is worth fighting for. Good luck.   Incidentally,  I never did regret leaving crappy jobs/colleagues and moving on. Just the once, where the salary was astronomical. Regret that a tiny bit with hindsight. But not for the right reasons. And I would have paid dearly for it with my sanity had I stayed. So you just cannot win.   Edit: Robbo... I was not raised to be this way and it is definitely counter to my nature, but in your shoes I would be looking at passive-aggressive revenge tactics. I resorted to this a couple of times and (sadly) derived great satisfaction in getting even with a couple of giant arseholes. (I am only human and not religious so do not fear Hell though. It is also good for your self esteem not to let the bastards get you down but to serve them a swerve ball or three... )
  17. Things to ponder

She's out. She's not hiding it. So it is not exactly "in confidence". On the other hand, talking to her about it is impossible.
  18. Stamping Passports post-Brexit

Exactly. If the uniforms don't understand or are ignorant of the roolz it is going to be a PITA.
  19. What made you laugh today?

    Drat. Did they burn well?
  20. Things to ponder

Reaching out to outed homosexuals here. So is the fact that you are gay, your news to spread alone? Would you be offended if your mother told other people? I just do not know what the protocol is here. Should I tell my parents my outed daughter is gay? Or let her do it in her own time? (She has next to no contact with them, unfortunately.)
  21. What made you laugh today?

Brilliant.   Snowy, could you likewise please take a shot of the pertinent pages (life too short to read the peripherals, surely) and put them up here for our amusement? TT needs amusement. And it is the only excitement I am likely to be getting in that direction for a long time. As for finding the vodka bottles funny I congratulate you on having retained a sense of humour. Seem to have lost mine (again). Understandable (if only you all knew) in the circumstances...
  22. What made you laugh today?

    That made you laugh ?
  23. Bullying or harassment in the work place

@ Robbo: Dunno if you will be talking to someone with sufficient intellect to recognise and understand manipulation tactics but in your shoes I would keep bringing up mysogynistic victim blaming. Broken record style so the message gets through.
  24. Why are you unhappy today?

Beg to differ. TT wisdom (FF?) a few months ago... all relationships have expiry dates. No point flogging dead horses. It takes courage to end a relationship. It can be easier to let things drag on and waste decades of people's lives, but far less honorable. We only live once.   Looking back it was probably for the best that my heart was broken earlier rather than later. But a lot of water has to flow under the bridge before you come to that conclusion and it's hard at the time. It is also better to rip that plaster off fast, rather than the slow peel off.   She'll get over it eventually.   I feel your pain emkay.
