  1. For employees the tax office will apply a flat reduction of income subject to tax (Arbeitnehmerpauschbetrag).

This is 1000€, so if your work-related costs (Werbungskosten) are only 720€ it is not worth the effort to collect receipts/fill-out details about your journey to work.

However if you have other work-related costs (e.g. education costs, specialist literature) that sum up over 1000€ than you will get a further tax-reduction.

Hmmm, don't know. Can't really see any 'hidden message' in this advert. It just contains everything that kids like - running around, getting excited over the attractions in a theme park, wearing summery, colourful clothes and, of course, eating ice cream.

... and, of course, the traditional german word "Erlebnis Resort".

What other cinemas? I know there is another thread on this, but havent seen this mentioned. Can someone post links to these independent cinemas that play English language films?

That would be English-language cinema in Frankfurt and Darmstadt. Note that the earliest replies are from 2005 and may be outdated, especially the info about the Turmpalast, which does not exist any more.

www.wichary.de lists all movies in original language that are shown in the current week.

it also covers the cities surrounding Frankfurt.

I'd been wondering at what level in men's football would a top women's national team have a realistic chance of winning? Here, I've only watched 1 and 2 BL and a handful of Kreisklasse/Kreisliga matches; nothing in between.

German women team played a 1:1 against the U15 of VfL Osnabrück. The regular team of VfL Osnabrück plays in third, sometimes second league.

But was she within her driving rights?

Rights of way of pedestrians at crossroads are very complicated and highly inconsistent.

It depends on the car is bending from or into a major road.

Basically said, a car that is on a major road and is bending into a side road the the driver has to wait for pedestrians crossing, but if the car is on the side road and is bending into a major road the driver has rights of way.

It is all explained on this website (german language).

I also made it absolutely crystal clear that there would be no cakes, only to be informed in equally clear terms that the whole company I work for would be massivley offended if I this was the case. I was led to believe that people would be baying for my blood if there was no sign of sponge, cream or icing.

Is that concept so hard to understand?

You are expected (obligatory) to loot other people's sweets when they have their birthdays, but you compensate it with the sponge, cream or icing you bring in on your birthday.

By refusing to give out your birthday date, you leave the impression that you are a selfish shellfish.

Exactly. Honestly people, don't trust a word of what any German media organisation says about this "meltdown".

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano told a press conference that the highly radioactive water found at the basement of the No. 2 reactor's turbine building is ''believed to have temporarily had contact with fuel rods (in the reactor's core) that have partially melted.''

  8. It turns out it is actually not so easys to leave the church. Especially if it is the roman-catholic church:

    http://www.wir-sind-kirche.de/files/145_herranz-original.pdf

    1. For the abandonment of the Catholic Church to be validly configured as a true actus formalis defectionis ab Ecclesia so that the exceptions foreseen in the previously mentioned canons would apply, it is necessary that there concretely be:

    a) the internal decision to leave the Catholic Church;

    B) the realization and external manifestation of that decision; and

    c) the reception of that decision by the competent ecclesiastical authority.

    2. The substance of the act of the will must be the rupture of those bonds of communion - faith, sacraments and pasternal governance - that permit the Faithful to receive the life of grace within the Church. This means that the formal act must have more than a jurisdicial-administrative character (the removal of one's name from a Church membership registry maintained by the government in order to produce certain civil consequences), but be configured as a true separation from the constitutive elements of the life of the Church; it supposes, therefore, an act of apostasy, heresy or schism.

    (...)

    7. It remains clear, in any event, that the sacramental bond of belonging to the Body of Christ that is the Church, conferred by the baptismal character, is an ontological and permanent bond which is not lost by reason of any act or fact of defection.

Upon sacrificed to the Devil roman-catholic church by an act of baptism, you may escape church tax, but you will never escape the maze of that church which calls itself the "Body of Christ"!

  9.

I have been reading these posts for about 3 hrs. and I

still have not seen anything that answers the origanal

    question.

Which of the three questions of the original post?

Do the Germans actually like us foreigners?

Why are we not shown in their media?

Does anyone else have this feeling?

In regards to the second question, at least some Ex-Pats of "english" background are shown in german media:

    David McAllister

    Charlotte Roche

    Joey Kelly
