Currently, restaurants, beergardens, event locations etc. are supposed to check their guests if they are: - vaccinated, or - recovered from Covid, or - very recently tested. I'm in Bavaria, which pretends to be very strict about this. It didn't quite look that way when I recently started going to restaurants in town with friends - I may have have been checked once or twice out of 15 - 20 visits. Do I just look so so trustworthy , or what's going on?

John, here's a page that gently explains what gas was used to fill your eye (and keep everything nicely in place), and how the body gradually replaces it with the natural fluid. The red wave or line you saw is the border between gas and fluid, so the refill seems to be proceeding normally. *knock on wood* https://beavrs.org/gas-in-your-eye Looks like they used the gas that gets replaced in a few weeks. All the best.

I don't get the octopus picture, looks rather cruel to me...

Just to add my medical two cents here - it can take weeks before he knows the results, and months to reach whatever level of vision is possible. This takes time to heal and adjust. (I will spare you all the details, but this was a lot of important and finicky work done.) Keeping my fingers crossed!

To be very honest, we struggle with the exact same problem in my corner of the United States! Same problem - calls rarely returned, appointments many hours late or dropped completely without a word of apology... and it's not just us, everybody in the area has been complaining for years! (There are many reasons for the lack of qualified service people/contractors/plumbers/electricians etc., one of which is normal people cannot afford to live in the area.)

Good on you!

He enjoyed the distraction, said the hospital was quite boring. He'd rather work, handle the house sale, help Nichole etc.

Send him a message on Skype and ask! That is the simplest way, he'll tell you if he feels like talking or messaging.

I just spoke to John in the clinic on Skype! He sends his love to TT friends and enemies alike and is in good cheer. He needs to lie down a lot today and move carefully when talking short walks (no pushups! no bending over! no sports!), also was cracking jokes and giving me insurance advice again. John will be be going home (German home) Thursday latest it seems. I'll leave all the details to him when he turns up later, just told him TT is back up again (thanks, MAM).

John, I wish you all the best for your procedure! You have little to lose and much to win! Call me any time! (Fancy women still telling you that!! )

I know another single father who also raised his kids himself after his wife passed away (against some family pressure from what I hear). Both sons have turned out well, and they do kind things for Dad like that, too. I think in spite of everything going on right now, you are going to be OK.

I really, really recommend looking up unfamiliar phrases in the Urban Dictionary before using or even quoting them in public. Has saved me several times!!

Thank you, everybody. Good Things like this help me get through the rest.

Happy Birthday, Magmax!
-
I'm happy because Birthday Week is here! On Saturday, a group of mostly British and some German TTers threw me a wonderful garden party with all the works - charcoal grill, a deep fryer for Indian veggie pakoras, and several kinds of champagne we progressed through. And thoughtful little presents! I am humbled. Sunday I jumped up and down at the Patti Smith concert, irritating the 50ish year old audience. More fun is coming...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professor_Balthazar I knew this guy looked familiar! IIRC this was on German TV. And look there, on US TV, too.
-
Take the high road, ignore those people, and be the better person!
-
I don't know why, but Magmax in spite of little English mistakes has a sweetness that makes me forgive and kinda love him.
-
John, I know the feeling. You have my Skype contact, we can talk any time!

Welcome back, @kathdonn! We missed you!

Please accept my condolences, Luke. It is good that you could see him. I agree, those about to pass away will wait for the people close to them to come. My Dear Relative did the same thing. And scattering the ashes in the Mediterranean is such a lovely thing to do, especially of both parents together.

Backing out of a new job due to relocation difficulties?
Metall replied to Pandekage's topic in Business
In the last few years, my company lost several new employees who backed out because they couldn't find affordable housing! -
Pressing 1 tells the scammer your number is good because a live person did something! Increase the resale value of your number, and you'll get even more calls.
