  1. Things to ponder

*clap clap clap* Good on that lady's daughter!!   At the same time, it's so sad that in most of the US, my body no longer belongs to me and we need to resort to these tactics to legally protect us...

  3. January 6th Select Committee

That would actually be funny (in a twisted way) if it weren't so sad... we truly have become a banana republic.
  4. I woke up blind in one eye this morning

Without telling any details without John's permission, he's currently at home and applying lots of eye drops as per doctor's orders, and doing well. I did a medicalese to English translation of the doctor's letter for him, and advised him to be patient and accept any improvement he can get in the next months. And he's in work mode -  jogging my elbow about some bills I need to submit to insurance. And we are trading stupid jokes because humor helps to deal.   He just now very briefly mentioned better vision than before the procedure - I immediately fired off a bunch of questions and am hoping he'll let us know the whole story! Where's my popcorn!
  5. US power strip for free

To give away: One grounded US power strip. Useful if you are using a transformer for any US appliances. Pickup possible in Munich. Shipping possible if prepaid.   Please contact via private message, I don't check here every day!
  6. Why are you unhappy today?

Don't let nasty relatives stop you! Go and do what you need to do!!
  7. I woke up blind in one eye this morning

John, here's a page that gently explains what gas was used to fill your eye (and keep everything nicely in place), and how the body gradually replaces it with the natural fluid. The red wave or line you saw is the border between gas and fluid, so the refill seems to be proceeding normally. *knock on wood*   Looks like they used the gas that gets replaced in a few weeks. All the best.
  8. What made you smile today?

I don't get the octopus picture, looks rather cruel to me...
  9. I woke up blind in one eye this morning

Just to add my medical two cents here - it can take weeks before he knows the results, and months to reach whatever level of vision is possible. This takes time to heal and adjust. (I will spare you all the details, but this was a lot of important and finicky work done.) Keeping my fingers crossed!
  10. I woke up blind in one eye this morning

To be very honest, we struggle with the exact same problem in my corner of the United States! Same problem - calls rarely returned, appointments many hours late or dropped completely without a word of apology... and it's not just us, everybody in the area has been complaining for years!   (There are many reasons for the lack of qualified service people/contractors/plumbers/electricians etc., one of which is normal people cannot afford to live in the area.)
  11. I woke up blind in one eye this morning

      Good on you!
  12. I woke up blind in one eye this morning

He enjoyed the distraction, said the hospital was quite boring. He'd rather work, handle the house sale, help Nichole  etc.
  13. I woke up blind in one eye this morning

Send him a message on Skype and ask! That is the simplest way, he'll tell you if he feels like talking or messaging.
  14. I woke up blind in one eye this morning

I just spoke to John in the clinic on Skype! He sends his love to TT friends and enemies alike and is in good cheer. He needs to lie down a lot today and move carefully when talking short walks (no pushups! no bending over! no sports!), also was cracking jokes and giving me insurance advice again. John will be be going home (German home) Thursday latest it seems.   I'll leave all the details to him when he turns up later, just told him TT is back up again (thanks, MAM).
  15. I woke up blind in one eye this morning

John, I wish you all the best for your procedure! You have little to lose and much to win! Call me any time! (Fancy women still telling you that!! )
  16. Why are you happy today?

I know another single father who also raised his kids himself after his wife passed away (against some family pressure from what I hear). Both sons have turned out well, and they do kind things for Dad like that, too. I think in spite of everything going on right now, you are going to be OK.
  17. What made you laugh today?

I really, really recommend looking up unfamiliar phrases in the Urban Dictionary before using or even quoting them in public. Has saved me several times!!
  18. Why are you happy today?

Thank you, everybody. Good Things like this help me get through the rest.
  19. I woke up blind in one eye this morning

    Happy Birthday, Magmax!
  20. Why are you happy today?

I'm happy because Birthday Week is here! On Saturday, a group of mostly British and some German TTers threw me a wonderful garden party with all the works - charcoal grill, a deep fryer for Indian veggie pakoras, and several kinds of champagne we progressed through. And thoughtful little presents! I am humbled.   Sunday I jumped up and down at the Patti Smith concert, irritating the 50ish year old audience. More fun is coming...
  21. I woke up blind in one eye this morning   I knew this guy looked familiar! IIRC this was on German TV. And look there, on US TV, too.
  22. I woke up blind in one eye this morning

Take the high road, ignore those people, and be the better person!
  23. I woke up blind in one eye this morning

I don't know why, but Magmax in spite of little English mistakes has a sweetness that makes me forgive and kinda love him.
  24. I woke up blind in one eye this morning

John, I know the feeling. You have my Skype contact, we can talk any time!
  25. What a tool. Get a lawyer, get your Antrag going!! Best of luck.
