Thank you, @fraufruit. @sarabyrd sends you warmest wishes for well-being and safe living. @Metall, I don't have access to your message, likewise @yesterday.
-
@sarabyrdis here again, for three weeks. She asked me to give friendly greetings to her TT friends.

In the almost fifty years that have passed, I never get out of the car without ensuring that I have the car keys in my hand. Of course, by now my child could unlock the car and get out by himself.
-
Especially when the motor's running and your 4-month-old baby is alone in the car!

I'm grateful for everything everyone does for me. Even the failures. They do the housekeeping and laundry, wash the dishes and put things away. They even watch TV and DVDs with me. It's been a learning process for me just to learn what to ask for. Please keep posting delicious recipes for a food voyeur. I'll stop hogging this thread now.

I beg your humble pardon, @Techsmex. I don't complain to the caregivers. And the packaged foods come from a no contact meal service - they never know. I do apologize to my daughters, who are paying for the packaged meals.
-
It's been a strange time, @Techsmex. Crazy taste buds, practically inedible packaged meals, well-meaning caregivers who end up being good only at warming canned soups...
-
@sarabyrd will be here for two weeks. I'm afraid she may go too far in the different direction - you may all remember how she goes all out in her cooking!
-
I haven't been well and have had to rely on other people cooking for me, with indifferent results. But today I had a couple of Yukon Gold potatoes, mashed with butter, and they tasted far, far better than anything I've eaten since October.

Several years later I heard Heller in a radio interview. Like some writers, he didn't seem to realize what he'd written or why his book had become so popular. Had he even read his book after its publication? I often wondered.
-
How exciting! In 1962 I took part in a Peace Walk from San Diego CA to Vallejo CA which ended with 12 members of the group being arrested on federal charges and put in jail. During their time there they could read donated books, but nothing that they wanted to read, like Siddhartha and political books. But someone donated Catch 22, which caught on like wildfire. The guards had no idea why Heller's book was so popular, why there was loud laughing from their cells. I hope you'll enjoy it, @dessa.

Cheese cake. I've got to make one more before I die. Lemon juice to add taste to the filling; crushed gingersnaps for the crust; sour cream, vanilla, and a little white sugar for the baked-on topping. So many cheesecakes, so little time!

My little boys - 8 and 3 - and I did this. It was delightful, though a little crowded. I think the other travelers were apprehensive about my children, but the little boys were good and in the morning, as we came across the causeway, one of the other passengers sang O Sole Mio - he worked in the Swedish Opera, and it was a very nice treat.
