  1. After reading some of the hilarious DIY jobs from lockdown and also the horror stories from some on threads about not being able to explain what you want I thought I’d mention this here.    I have been cutting men’s hair in Scotland for 8 years, from 3 years old to 90 years. All types of haircuts; long scissor work, sharp fades, classics, afro and beards too.    I’m based in Hannover in Südstadt.    I can post more details of the shop if I’ve posted this in the correct place and anyone is interested.    Kids, husbands, partners, significant others all welcome.   BH
  2. How long can I stay in Germany?

Having only been there this morning my hard copy card will take 6-8 weeks so im not sure if it will say GB on it but will let you know.    All 4 visits I made to the Ausländerbehörde in regards to which category I fell into seemed to confuse those who took my appointment. Purely because of the lack of a stamp to say I arrived post-Brexit. Even other colleagues in the room hadn’t the slightest as it hadn’t happened as of yet and the question was passed around. I’m sure they have 10 copies of my passport now excluding the emails I’ve sent them.   I would say if you are waiting to hear back and don’t within a week make another appointment as things seem to move faster when you discuss in person.    I checked every Monday at 8am when the new appointments were released online to get one.
  3. How long can I stay in Germany?

They did not explain why and I was not going to question why, I smiled (under my FFP2 mask) and nodded.    I also did not expect to be given as long a permit I thought it may have been between 1-2 years.   Very lucky I am sure.   I provided a job contract in my previous meeting there and I can only assume due to my arrival being before the 1st of January that I fall under the withdrawal agreement as there were questions as to my passport not having a stamp on it.    I am cutting hair here in Hannover, I have seen a “computery stuff” course that I hope to pursue in the future.    My German has improved a lot since coming into the shop. Although some like to practice their English.
  4. How long can I stay in Germany?

Yeah I realise the post comes across smug which was intended to be honest after receiving some unwelcoming cold information.   Thankfully not everyone on this forum is that way inclined, I do really appreciate all the welcome friendly and some humorous advice offered here. As it should be considering this is a forum for people who are unsure of protocol. They come here for help not to be made to feel small and stupid.    BH
  5. How long can I stay in Germany?

So I thought I’d post an update to the thread after being to the Ausländerbehörde this morning.    I have been given a residence permit valid for 10 years, within 5 available to apply for unlimited.   I did not get married, I found a job within my field regardless of a formal qualification.    Thank you to anyone who replied to this thread with useful rather than smug and entitled information.    BH
  6. Sour dough bread making in Deutschland

This is the video I was going from mainly because I want to see how good a bread I can make without fancy equipment.   I’ve also read that if you use tap water to let it sit out over night so if there are any impurities (like chlorine) they will evaporate out.   Going to keep the starter out at room temp and feed everyday for 7 days then use to bake.    As I won’t be baking every week I will go from everyday feeding to refrigerating and feeding once a week after that.
  7. Sour dough bread making in Deutschland

I’ve read through the previous threads in regards to sour dough and many other bread related topics but can’t seem to see any specific flour types used regarding a starter.   Although I’m sure you can use most flour types.    Curious to see if there are any bakers on here who make it regularly.
  8. Has anyone made sourdough/yeast bread over here and if so could you recommend which flour type you used for the starter?   Have began a starter with 405 type and it’s getting some bubbles days into it, was curious if there was any one who had more experience on here.
  9. Looking to move to Germany from Scotland After Brexit

Where you born in Scotland or Ireland?
  10. How long can I stay in Germany?

The first available appointment I can get to register is at the end of March. I have an appointment with Ausländerbehörde next week to explain my situation, as the 90 day period would have been over by then I did not want to make the appointment.    In terms of finding a job because of Corona this is almost impossible with everything being closed or working from home. I’ve found an online course that I’d been looking to do to better my chances at gaining employment here. Does that count as studying if I also had enough funds to support myself whilst living here?
  11. How long can I stay in Germany?

😂   Quite curious as to how many people have gotten married to stay in Germany now.    Surely there has to be some sort of partner visa, like in Australia.    https://www.bmi.bund.de/SharedDocs/kurzmeldungen/EN/2020/08/einreise-unverheirateter-paare-en.html
  12. How long can I stay in Germany?

I fail to see any “detailed” legal explanations rather than “get married”. If you don’t want to give advice and be rather confrontational then if that makes your day good on ya.    According to the government website if I had planned to stay for longer than 90 days it says I can apply for a visa within 14 days... I did not intend to stay here for longer than 90 days as I said, my flight was cancelled and all flights have now been cancelled until March which takes me beyond the 90 day mark.    I came on the 20th of December. I am not registered, the first available appointment is in March lol!   I am also not working here. I have savings and am working on gaining a qualification through virtual learning whilst here.
  13. How long can I stay in Germany?

Which are? I have a British passport so I was an EU citizen when I entered Germany. I have been with my partner for 5 years who is a German citizen.   Now all the flights have been cancelled to the UK so regardless I will have to apply for a visa if I can not register under the withdrawal agreement.
  14. How long can I stay in Germany?

Technically I did arrive in Germany before the 31/12/2020. Will this stand me in good stead haha?    Or should I have been registered before this date?
  15. How long can I stay in Germany?

I am looking into gaining a formal qualification.   I know others who have came to Germany as barbers to work pre-Brexit and they are not married. Others have studied also from what I have read.   Seems slightly excessive to “have to get married”.
