  1. So one of the language schools I work for here had me on a 72 hour  cancellation contract. Great they had run their  group courses on that contract for a while and anyone who is familiar with group courses would know that its  not ideal but it can work ....okay not ideal for individual trainings.  The standard is 24 hours. So anyways, they had me on  a 72  hour cancellation contract until the client complained and said they prefer a 24 hour cancellation policy. That was for individual trainings. That is, one exec after the other. One enginering exec  and a purchasing manager, highest ranking.

Then the two executives got too busy and they asked my language company for more flexibility, that is, a 24 hour  cancellation policy. All while I I had a 72 hour cancellation policy with my language school.

So I was like, you want me to go from 72 hours to 24, that is 3 times more so pay me thrice the rate and they wanted me to be more flexible but they did not flinch on my pay.

Then this language company says the customer expected more flexibility. They cancelled the course.

    1) They screwed up with having me on a  72 hour cancellation policy, while giving the client the possibility to switch to a 24 hour cancellation policy

    2) Rumor is they replaced me with someone with a 24 hour cancellation policy, bear in mind I had a 72 hour cancellation policy just to get money on their pockets after screwing up

Questions: 1) This rumor...whats a legal way to find out they replaced me with someone hence they breached my contract

    2) They terminated their contract with me after 4 weeks whereas they said 52 weeks

    3) Any other help would be appreciated I know I'm posting about a Vienna/ Austria situation in predominantly German website but I hope I can still find some help. Thanks

Lisa... as we dont know why the couple are seperating, its hard to understand the situation..

You say he sounds like the perfect partner fella or hubby what ever it is... but we dont knows what he or she has done...!

He could be a Cross dresser and she found out... he could be screwing all the chicks in the office or she could have turnded Lesbian... We just dont know...

Seldom... very seldom do both parties agree that "It just aint working, lets get a divorce"...

That conclusion usually comes after some seriously heated discussion...

I reckon that if "Failure to Listen" was an accepted excuse for divorce...  there would be many many more divorces..

I know that I may get lambasted again... but the German abillity to never allow their Non German partner to actually finish a sentence is one of the biggest problems in Mixed  DE/XX marriages...

As for 50/50 custody of the chldren... I do think it could work... and could work well for the kids... BUT both parents would have to be strong and stick with the arrangement... NO caving in unless for medical grounds...

If the OP can come to some custodial agreements with their EX, then I reckon a trip to a Tax advisor or Financial adviser would be money well spent by both parties...

Possibly BOTH parents pay equal ammounts into a "For the kiddies" account with 2 Debit cards and then each shall only use that card when the kids are in their custody..

But then again... I could just be a crazy unicorn chasing muppet!

  8. So I brought my husband to a summer party and I could feel the disdain in the boss's face and all the male teachers I work with. I'm very attractive, and I played single, kept my personal affairs to myself. Never wore my ring to work. These guys were always flirting with me. The minute my husband walked in my boss started huffing and puffing, pursing his lips, the ugly stares. Today I was told my services are no longer needed.  I'm devastated.

I have never heard Anderson Cooper or Bill Maher speak ghetto unless they were just taking the piss. How can you lump Kim K together with them? She and her uneducated sisters only date/marry rappers so it stands to reason. Let me guess, you watch KUWTK. Are you also watching Kylie's new ho show?

Bill Maher says the N word just as much as any of those rappers.

Which is the Austrian equivalent to the German "Grundschule", pupils start at the age of 6 and go there for 4 years.

So, you're teaching pupils aged 6 to 10, and don't speak German?

And you have to send emails to those pupils?

No, I teach at a Volkschule as well as in-company ESL. It's the in-company ESL where I have to send emails. However, its at the Volkschule where I almost got fired for crossing a red pedestrian light in front of the kids.

Yea, my son used it when he was 14 - 15 yrs. old and Eminem was his hero/mentor. Thank goodness that he outgrew it before 16. Nothing sounds dumber than a 30 something white person trying to speak it who can't.

I am too old to speak like this for sure but it's hard not to. Everybody and their mama speaks like this though. I don't do it in professional settings if that helps. This has to be the ONLY forum I visit where people talk proper, not sure if it is because it is flooded with overzealous ESL teachers.

Not sure why being white matters. Eminem, Kim K, a host of white people speak like this. Even Anderson Cooper and Bill Maher speak like this. And they are VERY educated.

Every language school works differently and teachers have to accept that.  Some schools don't like teachers having personal contact with students because they are afraid the teacher will steal the client, it happens all the time!  The school is protecting itself from such an event.

I've said it before, if you really can't live with these conditions, find another school to work for.

I am just venting. I can not afford to quit. I just wanted to know as a teacher do you not find this to be more on the intruding side? IMO there is not much they can do to avoid you stealing clients. I just finished a course, got a hold of the purchasing manager and the rest is history. The only way to discourage stealing customers is paying well and treating teachers well. They are failing to do both.

Why on earth don't you look for another job? A job more suitable to your qualifications?

3 hours ago, Lavender Rain said:

That's not spying, that's called accountability. Just because you were hired and you/they consider you qualified for the job doesn't mean you don't still require some degree of supervision and accountability. I think your boss requesting you to cc him on every correspondence is reasonable. This also gives him an opportunity to see your writing ability and your customer service skills so this is an opportunity for you to shine.

He's the boss and if he's requested you to copy him you should honor that without any questioning since you're new there. If you give him a hard time on this he's going to start assuming you're difficult to work with and start having second thought about hiring you.  He's probably going to start thinking you're a gadfly.

If it was me, I'd write so many emails and cc him and he'll get tired of his email inbox getting flooded with messages.

Just what is your expectation for supervision and accountability at your place of employment? How do you expect management to work with you? If you haven't already you may want to sit down with management and discuss their expectations of you so you're clear on them.

Btw, I've never known any place of employment where management is not in charge of the expectations and the responsibilities of their employees. Employees may be allowed to give some input in terms of the expectations, but ultimately management hold all the cards.

Obviously because I dont speak much German its the only job I can do.

The norm is that you communicate with students for homework, cancellations etc. You don't have to put management on CC whenever you fart. Then there is the issue of them wanting me to book rooms and do admin work, that's their job. It feels like the middle man is there for the big check but does not want to work. GTFOH.

Every email feels like spying to me.

I actually think that since the language school doesn't know you, and that you are not a qualified teacher, that they want to keep an eye on you.

No, you are not a rapper, but since you wrote on another thread that you write in rap when you get annoyed, I really don't think it would take much to get you into that mode!

Either you accept the terms and conditions of your employment, or you do not. In which case, I recommend you start looking for your next job!

IMO if you interview someone and you render them qualified for the job you should not spy on them. Regarding the rap I was toasted and I am not toasted at work. So please let it go.

I was wondering if you think this is reasonable, I think its bull. Also they want me to book the students' room which to me is admin work, the language school should do that themselves.

    1

  16. I just got a job and the language school...my  new boss wants me to put him on CC on EVERY email I send to students. Sounds unreasonable and intrusive to me. What do you all think? I would think they should trust my professional judgement to communicate with students.

He also wants me to be "flexible". I thought there is ALWAYS supposed to be a schedule. They can deviate from that once in a while once busy, but he can't expect me to be on call 24/7 for whenever they want me.

My other question, is if you are teaching individuals, and you have one after the other and one cancels, are you not supposed to be paid for both since you reserved your time for both?

I've had a  job interview and offer to begin working within a week from inlingua,  freelance with possibilities that could lead to full time.. at least that's what they told me.  I turned it down to due personal transportation costs.

    Good luck.

PS, I already live in Germany. I wasn't applying externally from another country. I figured this tid-bit might clarify others curiosity.

Inlingua sucks, they only give a Pauschale instead of the traditional 0,44 Euros a km. Berlitz pay is shitty but they have mileage.

That's what I thought but a friend of a friend got divorced and is stuck paying alimony for 5 years in spite of her having a full time job and the daughter being in her late teens. I asked him how it happened and he said she had a really good lawyer. However it's also possible he didn't fight too hard because he wanted to keep his relationship with his daughter on good terms.

59 minutes ago, Uncle Nick said:

So, you want every country to scrap their own laws in favour of the American system? If you would feel happier marrying in the US go for it.

Well then, normally how long do Germans pay alimony for? 5 years seems not so generous to me. In the States you normally pay alimony until she remarries.

Also, I have a problem with those tables posted. I saw a maximum of 5K or so listed. So a man who makes 15K  a month does not pay 3 times more child support than a man making 5K?
