you can also get one per post, costs I think 13 euros and the form can be downloaded as word.doc or PDF from here

    its in english and deutsch

    fill in send off!

What about this red section? Do we have to have someone sign it before sending it to Bonn?

  2. I've send my tax declaration for previous years but Finanzamt replied they need proof of payments.

Problem is my proofs are only account statements from my bank in PDF. Almost everything I've declared was paid online via SEPA Lastschrifteinzug, so it was recorded by the bank, but there is no way to export it to single payments for easier reading. Finanzamt should obviously not be interested in my other private payments I've made in a given month, but I have no other option than just to send them the monthly PDF statements I got from the bank. I have no invoices, i.e. SBahn yearly subscription (https://www.abo-antrag.de/) doesn't provide a way to print any.

Should I just send them my bank statements (only pages where relevant payments appear)? Will it be sufficient?

In my foreign bank there is an option to view all payments even from 10 years back, select one single payment and print it to pdf, but Deutsche Bank doesn't even allow me to go back further than 180 days <_< and provides no way to print single selected payments. All I got from them are static PDFs.

  3. Update. Turns out DKB just needed some time after first login to open card activation.

Both dkb.de and DKB app were updated today with new options. As you said, a big coloured box appeared in Finanzstatus, also a new option in Services section called "Details Visa Debitkarte" and "Visa Debitkarte aktivieren", as expected.

  4. Well, I didn't get any activation message. Maybe they've changed the procedure for new clients.

But you don't happen to have any "Visa Debitkarte aktivieren" in Service section? According to the letter I've received with the card I should:

    1. Melde dich in Banking an
    2. Klicke auf die Meldung zur Aktivierung oder gehe auf dkb.de unter Service > Visa Debitkarte aktivieren
    3. Vergif deine Wunsch-PIN

This is rather plain Deutsch, no other way to interpret it than to go to Services on dkb.de. But it's not there <_<
Not sure what the alternative "Klicke auf die Meldung zur Aktivierung" means exactly though.

  5. @PandaMunich what should I see on this NeueApp site? It always displays "Super, alle deine Visa Debitkarten sind aktiviert." even when I'm not logged in, it seems to be just a static page that displays only this text.

They even have this site indexed in Google, what the...? xD Something is royally screwed on DKB's side.

  6. Yea, I saw this already, this message is contradictory, vague and not helpful at all.

" The best way to do this is to register in your web  banking  at dkb.de. "
No shit, I thought I have to send them a fax. Why do they even mention this as an online bank <facepalm>

" We will help you to carry out the necessary steps "
What? Why such basic operation sounds like it requires a customer assistance?

" via a message in your financial status: "
a "message"? in "financial status"? In the letter it clearly says it has to be done in "Service" section, not in "financial status".

    "Set up Visa Secura"
It won't let me, one has to do it in their DKB app under Card Control section but on my app it says "No cards available"

  7. I've opened a girokonto at DKB, managed to log in on dkb.de but I can't activate my new Visa debit card. It says here in the letter that came with the card, in step nr 2 I should go to Service > Visa Debitkarte aktivieren but there is no such option on dkb.de! @DKB users: do you have this option on your dkb.de?

In Service menu, under "Konto und Karten" section I only see:

    • Kontowechselservice
      Kontoauszug online
      Karten sperren
      Ersatzkarte bestellen
      Kreditkartenumsätze reklamieren
      Girokartenumsätze reklamieren
      Debitkartenumsätze reklamieren
      Scheck einreichen
      Konto kündigen
      Entgeltaufstellung anfordern
      Girokarte kündigen

  8. Hello, anyone here deducts Nebenkosten in tax declaration? No one replied 3 years ago, maybe this time I'll be more lucky ;)

I would like to deduct: Gartenpflege, Hauswart, Gebäudereinigung. Can I do it? Should I add more to the list? It's a rented flat.

  9. I'm all freaked out, because all this time I thought I fall into "voluntary" category, which means I still have up to 4 years to file my taxes, BUT I've just read that married couples in 3/5 class setting are always obliged to file taxes?! Even if partner on class 5 never had any income?

My situation is stagnant and non-complicated, logically thinking they don't need any more information from me besides what my employer has already provided:
We never had any income except my single wage from a single employer, who filed all necessary payslips to Finanzamt.
I didn't receive any benefits, sickness allowances, short-time allowances, compensation payments.
We don't have any children. I haven't changed jobs, didn't have a loss, nor any investments and tax office has never contacted me.

Do I still fall into "mandatory" category only because my income-less spouse is on tax class V?

In other source I read "A tax declaration is required for married couples who both receive employee wages and are taxed according to tax class V or VI. "
which would mean it doesn't count, since she doesn't receive an employee wage.

  10. Just got caught up with the recent news, but not everything is clear for me yet.

I was vaccinated with J&J in my home country, it was supposed to be valid one year. So 6 more months in my case.

Now I read that J&J got downgraded, or what? Does it mean I cannot use public transport because I'm not fully vaccinated according to new rules? Am I treated like non-vaccinated person now?

To be honest, I don't care about restaurants and I don't want any covid-tracking apps on my handy. How can I tell if my QR code is sufficient?

  11. I'm obviously not up to date, but this got me curious.

Last time I checked place was supposed to be closed due to eviction, then it turned to vaccination center and I stopped following. Today I saw some pictures from 2021 from which it seems that it's thriving again. What happened? How did it come back to life again?

Second thing, are such parties even allowed? And by this I don't mean nudity and public coetus. I mean everyone crowding without mask indoor, dancing, etc. How did they find a workaround in the face of statutory, night-life-slaughtering, covid regulations of last 2 years? Meanwhile other places during summer required to wear a mask even outisde.

  12. I have some construction waste left after previous tenant I need to get rid of. Nothing super heavy and not rubble, only few large airbricks.
Not sure if airbrick is the right word, it's also called aerated concrete.

I already used BSR in my area for electronics, but would they accept airbricks too? According to https://www.bsr.de/die-berliner-stadtreinigung-in-englischer-sprache-26142.php I don't think they would.

Problem is I don't have a car and it wouldn't be easy to carry these bricks because of their large size (rather than weight).

The drawback of IT is that it'll be very difficult to argue that you definitely need advanced German to get a job.

Yes, that's what everyone keeps saying, including my lawyer. Problem is that they're purely job-centered, they don't care if you're a migrant or not.

They used to send the jobs offers my snail mail and include a form to fill out indicating when you applied or your reasons for not applying.

They haven't yet, maybe that's because I applied online or they will once unemployment officialy starts.

If you tell the Agentur you only want to work part-time, they'll reduce your benefits accordingly.

Good point, but I don't see how my "will" is relevant and not the work schedule that I actually had in last couple of years?

The goal of the Agentur für Arbeit is to get you back into the workforce as quickly as possible.

I know, that stands in conflict with what I want. I want to use this occasion to make a change in life: take a break, recover from burnout and focus on health, general wellbeing and learning German. But obviously it's not a good idea to tell them that, as they only care about kicking me back to work :)

Thanks for all replies guys, that's really reassuring.

When is your last day of employment?

By the end of this month. Deadline for Arbeitsbescheinigung is two weeks later.

Are there jobs in your field that don't require German? What is your field?

From my experience almost all of them require only English, IT. Only some german companies require German.

    13 minutes ago, engelchen said:

You are supposed to apply for the jobs they send you or give a reason why. You need to have them change the settings for your job search to exclude the ones that are in German (which will most jobs in their databank).

How do I give a reason? On web portal it's just a list with offers linked to employers' websites. No forms or buttons to decline. Should I write a letter to arbeitsagentur?
Most of these offers also do not fit to my specialization, only one of them did.

How long the Agentur will support you learning German instead of actively looking for a job will depend on your field and your qualifications

Yeah, that's what I'm worried about. Finding a job is not a big problem, but time is. Part-time contracts in IT are not common, they always want you full-time.
What if I insist that I want to work only in german company that requires speaking german, so that I integrate to society better? This would decrease my current qualifications and buy me some more time before I master German.

  15. My company has been closed and everyone including myself was fired. I'm not officialy unemployed yet but I've already registered at arbeitsagentur.de and filled Arbeitslosengeld form. I was not able to submit it yet, as I'm still waiting for Arbeitsbescheinigung from my employer (they claim they have to wait for my last payslip before sending it to me). My security status is PIN-Brief-bestätigt.

I've received a second invitation to Arbeitsagentur but I'm not sure what to expect. I have been there already but it was not very helpful. I've been asked strange and pointless questions about my strengths (?), but after a while of translating the long list of strengths from Deutsch to English we gave up (the lady was kind enough to speak English but this list was a bit too much). I just handed over my CV and agreed to fill in my strengths and other info later by myself, but I cannot find it anywhere on the web portal now.

At least I've learned that they cannot send me to a german course because my german is not good enough (?!), I need to be at least B1+. Only migration office (BAMF - Bundesamt für Migration und Flüchtlinge) can send me to A1-A2 courses (even though I'm an EU citizen and never had to visit BAMF). Thankfully, my german school have already taken care of BAMF on my behalf and I'm currently learning German on a very intensive course, best decision in my life.

Anyhow, I need to go to Arbeitsagentur again and I don't know what to expect? I'm worried about saying something that might block me from Arbeitslosengeld.

Obviously I don't have time for a new job yet as I'm learning german full-time. This is more important for me than another job that would keep me in english-speaking bubble. They have send me a lot of offers, but I've ignored them because they were all in german - my previous job was 100% international, I didn't have to speak german at all, I'm struggling to speak german in every day life, let alone in professional environment.

  16. Are those two words synonyms?

Or nebenkosten = ALL costs except kaltmiete, so: betriebskosten + warm water costs + heating costs?

I've read a lot here and on Internet about "nebenkosten" and that it should be between 2-3 € per sqm but in my Abrechnung letter my landlord never uses the word "nebenkosten", so I'm not sure if I actually pay 2.1€/sqm (betriebskosten alone) or 3.37€/sqm (all costs except kaltmiete).

  17. I've received an Abrechnung for 2018 and as a result my rent has increased again, this time by 30€, last year it increased by 20€.

Of course in the letter it doesn't state the Kaltmiete change, the increase is in Nebenkosten. Is this some dirty trick landlords pull to bypass the rent cap?

I can understand if it increases due to my increased Heizkosten, warm water usage or some rennovations - but this is not the case here. Nothing changed for me and yet I have to pay more. What could be the reason of increased costs? Inflation? Service cost increase? The biggest part of Nebenkosten is Versicherung (210€/year) - why do I have to pay for it as a tenant anyway? What do I have from that?

  18. As a tenant, in the yearly Abrechnung I'm supposed to get a summary of costs which are tax deductible.

    source:  https://liveworkgermany.com/renting-in-germany-dont-get-ripped-off-with-annual-service-charges

"A summary of costs which are deductible against income tax law §35a. This is a really important part of your Abrechnung and many tenants don’t know that this is actually tax deductible. Without going into too much detail, this summarises any manual labour incurred by the property management company (common examples are gardening and janitorial services). These can be deducted on your tax return at 20% of the total costs incurred."

I did receive the Abrechnung with Nebenkosten broke down to many different costs. How do I know which one of them is tax deductible?

In example we have a garden and in the Abrechnung a Gartenpflege costs position (150€/year) is listed there. What else can be deducted?

We also pay for Hauswart, Ungezieferbekämpfung (insect control), Gebäudereinigung, Winterdienst, Versicherung and many others but they don't sound like it's something deductible as it does not imply manual labor.

  19. Automatically renewing contracts suck too, but that's like a separate issue and I'm pretty sure it's a standard in Europe (except the crazy long notice period).

In my case I replaced Vodafone DSL with other provider and they did acknowledge the cancellation, but after the contract expired I still noticed some charges in my transfer history, and to be more confusing they were different from the usual fixed monthly costs I was paying before. I received no mahnung letters (don't get me started on that, those are the cancer) so I can't even check the reason behind those charges because obviously my MeineVodafone account no longer exists. Life lesson: trust no one, check bank account regularly and revoke direct debit approval as soon as contract is terminated.
