What does the state of Colifornia do, when more POC than white people are ticketed for jaywalking?
"Ting added the law prevents potentially escalating police stops,
as he says tickets are disproportionately given to people of color and
lower-income individuals who cannot afford to pay a ticket.
The assemblymember's office said data from the California Racial and Identity Profiling Act showed from 2018-20,
Black Californians are four-and-a-half times more likely than white Californians to be stopped by police for jaywalking."
They change the law:
"21955. (a) Between adjacent intersections controlled by traffic control signal devices or by police officers,
pedestrians shall not cross the roadway at any place except in a crosswalk.
(b)
(1) A peace officer, as defined in Chapter 4.5 (commencing with Section 830) of Title 3 of Part 2 of the Penal Code,
shall not stop a pedestrian for a violation of subdivision
(a) unless a reasonably careful person would realize there is an immediate danger of a collision with a
moving vehicle or other device moving exclusively by human power."
What can you do, if the car's speed is 50 miles/h, someone starts jaywalking and you see an "immediate danger of a collision"?
I would call the undertaker.
