  1. The 2020 US Presidential candidates

Well folks it was nice visiting again but it's time to move on so adios and good bye!   BTW anyone else notice that Robert Murdoch just threw Trump under the bus!!
  2. Coronachat - vents, whines, flummoxes & miscellaneous

Was watching an interview with Swedish Swedish epidemiologist Anders Tegnell and he made an interesting comment about epidemiologists (hat tip for google for figuring out what I meant) and how they will always go for the worst case scenario. Yesterday France joined Wales and  announced that all small shops must close, so what messages are European governments sending out?     DO NOT GO OUT STAY HOME SHOP ONLINE   So where do people first go when they want to order online, Amazon! And once you get in the habit of shopping online it's very difficult to go back. Why would I drive to the store to buy a box of Q Tips when Amazon will deliver it for free the next day!   **end rant**

It's much worse than that. A comment I posted on Reddit.   Wow the incompetence of the Democrats never ceases to amaze me. So what is Fox News, most important, the most influential, and by far thhe most watched news program in America, doing now the election is mostly finished. It's running 7/24 baseless rumors that the election is being stolen. Whipping up a frenzy about how if we don't stop them the election will be stolen and the Democrats will impose socialism on America!   Soooo what is the Left doing to counter this propaganda?   Nothing!   Instead they are debating whether Hispanics/Latinos join Asians and be classified as white (aka racists nazis white supremacists) because they voted in big numbers for Trump?   While Biden did win the handwriting is on the wall for the Dems

Corona Newsletter from Hessenschau - excellent overview of what's happening in Germany, recommend following it.   https://mailing.hr-online.de/html_mail.jsp?params=QxGXh%2F4cGcldeh5%2FPd00neXnEgewhXMTph8seYVztaPObVToJGkZ2ZJXThs3%2FP6LG%2FBNsLrWiz%2B%2F4qtKW2WAkYpoqKf6wck%2FUGG2bKx3VX4%3D

good question, never thought of that one!

Oh man what a brilliant idea!   Universities are already ring fencing students minds lest they get influence by crazy dangerous radical ideas such as freedom of speech, freedom of thought, debate, democracy etc. but honestly, they really need to put up a firewall around the internet. Can you imagine the disaster if someone were to stumble across Lockdown Skeptics and started asking questions. Horrible!   Well Done Manchester Uni!

He may be unfit for office but for the Democrats this is Custer's last stand.  They should have crushed the GOP but they only held them to a draw. Trump has massively re-aligned politics in America. Long term unless the Dems change the future is very bleak. A small example, one Florida county 75+% Latino, should have been a cake walk for the Biden went overwhelmingly for the GOP. The issue with the Dems can be summed up in Arrogance, incompetence, and Socialism (wokeness). Reading the comments on twitter and what Rachel "The Doc" Bitecofer has been saying (even thought her election forcast was massively wrong) it's clear the Dems are in denial.   https://twitter.com/ZachandMattShow/status/1324518032719433728?s=20 Andrew Yang says Democrats need to improve their appeal to the working class: "In there minds the Democratic party unfortunately has taken on this role of the coastal urban elites who are more concerned about policing various cultural issues than improving their way of life."       BTW It was pretty much a given Biden would win the question was would it a massive re-alignment or barely a squeaker
  8. Coronavirus

The numbers are increasing but the hospitals don't seem to be overwhelmed. From what I've read it's the same in the UK.   From the Great Barrington Declaration FAQs     the points and proposals seem to be quite reasonable but implementing them requires good governance, something sadly lacking in most countries.
  9. The 2020 US Presidential candidates

I think goes a long ways in explaining why the Blue wave fizzed out, I was expecting a blood bath for the GOP. Instead we'll see even more energetized. Win or lose Trump will be a round for a while     The big story of the night was that Trump gained in every demographic EXCEPT white men. Biden is probably going to win this thing because he gained with white men. The American people rejected woke intersectional identity politics, but of course the media will learn zero lessons
  10. The 2020 US Presidential candidates

Go figure part 2 and 3       and   Lee Drutman (@leedrutman) Tweeted: If you are trying to make sense of Florida’s vote to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour AND reelect Trump, I’d like to remind of the upper-left hand quadrant of this chart I made back in 2017. Lots of voters are socially conservative and economically liberal. https://t.co/zoTzXFjCME
  11. The 2020 US Presidential candidates

Go figure   According to the exit poll, Trump did better in 2020 with every race and gender except white men. Change from 2016: White Men -5 White Women +2 Black Men +4 Black Women +4 Latino Men +3 Latino Women +3 Other +5 https://twitter.com/jonkay/status/1323991843059761159?s=20
  12. The 2020 US Presidential candidates

Watching Biden my impression is Gore vs Bush, Trump has made it very clear he'll fight to the bitter end, Biden, let's all chill, relax and see what happens. It¡s no wo der the Dems can win for losing  Glen Greenwald on this   https://greenwald.substack.com/p/the-us-inability-to-count-votes-is?r=15yob&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&utm_source=copy
  13. The 2020 US Presidential candidates

Read somewhere that there is 50 different elections each with its own rules. States controlled by the Dems make voting easier, states controlled by Rep make voting tougher. If the GOP keeps the senate won't matter who wins as nothing will get done. The GOP will block everything but tax cuts

So our final 'window visit' at the care home before lockdown didn't go according to plan.   Text for those who don't want to go to FB. Stuff like this is only going to make it harder to enforce the rules.   So our final 'window visit' at the care home before lockdown didn't go according to plan. When you are faced with irrational responses your actions become irrational. When you are repeatedly told 'we're just following the rules' and those rules have kept you away from your loved one for about 8 or 9 months, you question those rules.   When the rules - like so many in this period of our history - are purporting to be in place to 'protect' but yet are causing untold damage to physical and mental health then you start breaking the rules.   Yesterday my 73 year old Mum, pushed into the care home to hug my 97 year old Grandma who has dementia. She then quietly wheeled her out.   My Mum, is a trained nurse and wishes to care for my Nan at home. We only have Power of Attorney for my Nan's finances. Not for her wellbeing. Before lock down we could over come this by visiting my Nan regularly. Now we can't. My Mum was arrested because she refused to take my Nan back to the care home. It feels like we are living in the worst Kafka-esque nightmare. People in masks coming to take your relative away from you.   I find myself for the first time in my life on the wrong side of the law.   I have tried to go through all the 'official channels': written countless letters to MPs, Public Health, the Care home... I have signed petitions, spoken to social workers, we raised a 'safe guarding' concern at the beginning of lockdown due to my Nan's clear deterioration but this was inexplicably dropped and 'disappeared'. When she became ill at the care home and was admitted to hospital we asked that she not go back. Yet she was discharged from hospital behind our backs and without our consent. When your voice feels lost in a labyrinth of bureaucracy, when you are informed by the police that you are not on your relative's relevant paper work(!!), when the system is so clearly failing, we have to stand up and reform it. The police were as kind as they could be, they had a hard job. I thank them for trying their best and de-arresting my Mum so we could go home together.   The issues are with the 'guidelines' and with so much fear preventing creative problem solving. Relatives need to be given key-worker status. They need to be allowed into their relative's private bedroom to visit, feed and care for their loved ones.   I share this story and these two short videos (the second one I recorded by accident but the audio is clear) to highlight to as many people as possible that sometimes the rules aren't right. Sometimes the rules need challenging and changing.   It is my hope that if enough of us live from our hearts, act from our hearts and speak our truth fearlessly from our hearts, this inhumane situation will come to an end. Please share.

Expecting Biden to win a squeaker but it's only due to absolute luck. Trump should have been another Carter.  I highly recommend following @RachelBitecofer  for on this theme.   Some interesting links for political junkies.   Expected outcome (no link) Biden Wins GOP holds Senate and blocks everything Biden does for the next 4 years (via twitter).  http https://twitter.com/ChicagoPhotoSho/status/1323874930467966977? 20 https://twitter.com/ChicagoPhotoSho/status/1323874930467966977?s=20   Jesus H christ. I got this way wrong. I thought child separation policy would result in latino wave for Dems. I mean, that should be a deal breaker for anyone but..   https://twitter.com/jessesingal/status/1323875437295112195?s=20 https://twitter.com/jessesingal/status/1323875437295112195?s=20   This is really, really horrifying. Informed pollsters have known for a long time there would be a huge blue shift in Pennsylvania that could wipe out a seeming ~15 lead for Trump as later votes come in. For the RNC to be pulling this crap is just unconscionable.   More to come     https://twitter.com/ChicagoPhotoSho/status/1323874930467966977?s=20 s://twitter.com/ChicagoPhotoSho/status/1323874930467966977?s=20
  16. Coronavirus

A lot of the problems in Belgium stem from it being a divided country, half French, half Flemish and loads of arguments over who does what.    picked this up on Twitter today   Hospital intensive care no busier than normal, leaked documents show - even without Nightingales   https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/11/03/hospital-intensive-care-no-busier-normal-leaked-documents-show/
  17. Coronavirus

@balticus Welcome to the club, people here prefer to throw childish insults when presented with information they don't like. Not as bad as Twitter but almost   If you look at the FT Chart  You'll see it's one fucking weird virus, the numbers are absolutely exploding but deaths are declining in most countries. And then most of those tend to be in the over 80 group. In other words it's behaving as the flu would. Even then, thanks to mask wearing and such the overall numbers seem to be down compared to previous years. From what I've read UK Canada hospitals are not being overwhelm like they were in previous years. Having said all that there is one area that does concern me, long haulers. I've seen it mentioned around but very little information is available. Until we get more understanding of this I'm being careful

Thank you for proving my point! Never let the facts get in the way of a good meme!
  19. Coronavirus

Sorry but facts don't care about your feelings and I'll stick to the facts no matter how uncomfortable.

So I assume you choose option C: Be an Ass? I do understand  it is very upsetting when some presents facts that disagree with your world view but them facts are facts.
  21. Coronavirus

Via Twitter (not my tweet)   Last Friday, Macron floated the idea of a new general lockdown in France. Ouch. And because I’m fed up with reading so much garbage and contradictory stuff on Covid, I decided to have a hard look at the French data. Option A: The Fear Mongers      French Doctor arns Country may have lost control of the virus! And a long but absolutely brilliant thread. I'm afraid the conclusions are pretty grim.       Option B: The lockdown Skeptics Just how great a risk is there of the hospital system being overwhelmed? Well it depends  By the time the COVID-19 pandemic is finally over, Canadian doctors could face another health care crisis due to a massive backlog of surgeries and procedures that will strain an already stretched system!   But wait, what about schools?   "Despite widespread concerns, two new international studies show no consistent relationship between in-person K-12 schooling and the spread of the coronavirus."   And by the numbers   Just how great a risk is there of the NHS being overwhelmed? We’re constantly being told by Boris Johnson, Matt Hancock and others that unless we observe the traffic light restrictions in our area, we will witness the kind of scenes we saw in Lombardy back in March, with Covid patients dying in hospital corridors. But is that true? Not according to my friend who’s worked as an NHS doctor for the past 30 years. Here is his guest post for today’s Lockdown Sceptics. Choose your pill.

Would be interesting to compare Covid hospitalization numbers to flu hospitalization numbers for previous years as well as serious illness by age, This would give a much clear picture of how severe the "2nd wave is. For example the previous pic I posted (year unknown) flu deaths topped 64,000 current UK numbers are approx 32,000 dead, this assumes there are deaths attributed to Covid but actually were not. Secondly the age spread would be helpful as well. Currently the majority of deaths are from over 70s and over 80s.   The majority of cases are now young people and the vast majority of those are of the minor kind, unknown the exact percentage.   Much hard to establish will be the deaths due to the lockdown, not just the obvious, suicides but old people dying of loneliness, uptick in cancers and such.  We'll probably never know those numbers.
  23. Coronachat - vents, whines, flummoxes & miscellaneous

Wackos like this are just handing power to the government. When you protest the economic and health costs of the lockdown you get dismissed as a wacko. Coronavirus How my mum became a conspiracy theory influencer. But as I've pointed out before thanks to the continued lockdown vaccination rates are way down and people are putting off doctors visits out of fear. In Australia 4 newborn infants died because they couldn't get transferred to the proper hospital. Imagine how that parent feels about the lockdowns. Thankfully clear head prevailed and non essential surgeries have started up again but the backlog will take years to clear. (This Canada UK less so Germany).   And in Wales the insanity continues. I figure Jeff Bezos paid the politicians off, bankrupt the small stores and take out the competition. No wonder he's the 200 billion dollar man.   This list tells us that dog toys will be available, but not baby items. Afterall as new mum you don't really baby stuff.
  24. Coronachat - vents, whines, flummoxes & miscellaneous

I'm with you completely they keep saying just a short fast lockdown and everything will go back to normal but covid isn't going away, it's simply a different version of the flu. Found put today even the normal flu can do serious damage A seemly healthy Young person.   A friend posted this, are we even close to these numbers. I love watching hospital doctor shows (GP behind closed doors) and one show covered how the Flu can overwhelm the  hospitals, hallway medicine, is what they call it. Seems wearing masks is holding down those numbers (I generally favour wearing 🎭)

Virus is pummeling Europe's eateries — and winter is coming   This is, long term, is the part that worries me (well other than becoming a long hauler), the economic fall out. The Economist called it the 90% economy and it's not pleasant!
