  1. I think it highly depends on what you need - a place for an RV with water and electricity hook-up? Or just space for a car and tent? 

    I would definitely research the campsites in the area you are planning on travelling through to make sure you end up at a nice one. Their website probably also has info on reservations & planning. Some friends of mine ended up at one that catered mostly to RVs with their bike and tent which was ok but a bit weird and another one might have been nicer.

You could also look for a doggy school that offers something you and your dog are interested in - dummy training, man trailing etc. That way you could learn fun stuff, but mostly meet other dog owners and you can arrange for additional walks together. Tbh, the vast majority of the new people I have met in recent years I met through their dogs...

  3. I have definitely never heard this. It is a matter of insurance, I believe. 

    If the student has passed the test, but is not 18 yet, there is the  „Begleiteten Fahren ab 17“  which means they can drive with an adult with a license even before their 18th birthday. There are some rules and regulations regarding the adult license holder but I cannot remember all the details (30 years, min., driver's license for 5+ years etc. More info here: BMDV - Fahranfänger/innen und „Begleitetes Fahren ab 17“ (bmvi.de) ).

    I'd say stick to your guns. You and boss agreed on something, you made arrangements that cannot be changed short notice. Please don't back down.

    At the notary, we were instructed to sign with our full names but this only meant that you would have to spell out Kevin McDermott-Alvarez instead of, say,  K. McDermott-Alvarez

    I have no idea about purchasing gold, but this is due to the different density of materials. 1 g = 1 ml works for water and not for much else.

    Native here with a rather large German family in the South West of the country. I asked around since I first saw this thread and none of them have ever changed a lock on their door when they moved. Neither in rental properties nor in purchased ones. Only one of my parents' tenants ever did this but that was a ugly domestic dispute that turned into an even uglier separation and divorce where my parents had to threaten them with a lawyer to get the locks and keys to the apartment back. They were part of a Schließanlage. 

     

    Now I won't claim that the majority of Germans does the same, but I do take objection to the claim that "any native knows this" 

     

    Thank you for the links about insurance though. I did not know this.

    It is also quite common to ask for one when you change jobs within the company or when your boss changes. Every time I had a boss who left (left the company, retired etc.) I asked for a Zwischenzeugnis.

    Definitely not. I have never been naked at a physio. Take of top or pants for massage / drainage etc. - yes. Exercises are done in gym clothes. 

    My husband finished 8 months of physio recently, including 15 weeks of intense daily reha (broken leg). If he came in shorts, he didn't have to remove anything but the shoes for the massage / lymph drainage bit. 

     

    My guess would be that it was maybe a misunderstanding / miscommunication.

    I have never heard of anything like this, but neither I nor people I know have ever lived in large apartment blocks. Maybe 10, 20 units with a HV, but small enough to know most neighbors by sight. They screwed up big time. My parents rent out a couple of apartments and making sure all mail gets delivered to the right person is one of the most important aspects for them. Plus the keys as the house also has a locking system where your own key opens apartment, basement unit and front door. It is hideously expensive to change if someone loses a key. Making a copy of the key is quite the task as you need the original paper authorizing you to do so. It is very easy to recognize those kind of locks so I am surprised the locksmith changed it no questions asked. 

    So the company did this without informing the Hausverwaltung? I find that very strange and inprofessional.

    I would keep that option open, depending on how they deal with it. Slight grovelling and a sincere apology? Assuring you they will cover any cost that might arise from it e.g. from missed bills etc.? Sure. 

    Arrogant dismissal? Suggesting you are not that smart for not having realized what happened right away? Then I would demand a reimbursement of any cost that you had to cover and complain to the Hausverwaltung again for sure.

  15. Definitely talk to your Schornsteinfeger about the regulations and any ideas s/he might have. You might even be able to attach the flue to the existing chimney depending on the setup. 

    You also need quite a bit of space to store the wood and or Briketts. Especially if you want to get cheaper, i.e. not completely dry, wood which you have to store for a few years.

    Doesn't work though. If the holder of the reservation (a person) is not in the seat, the reservation expires after 15 minutes. If someone makes a fuss, get a Schaffner. They really do not like this kind of behaviour.

  17. Technically, you need a permit to drill a well. 

     

    A vague inquiry at the Untere Wasserbehörde in our district yielded the info that the permit will not be granted unless the garden is adjacent to a house or for commercial farming.  What I did find out is that it can vary by district.  A larger well drilling company will always require a permit and well offer to apply for it as well. This can come back and bite you if the permit is denied.  A one or two man outfit probably might not ask too many questions.

  19. One of the best pruning channels (in German) I have found so far is Bauschule Schreiber. The Austrian dialect might be difficult to understand though. But they have videos on a wide range of topics and they clear up a whole lot of myths around pruning that some of the oldtimers still cling to.

    I have grown fruit and vegetables for quite a few years. Had success with some - pumpkin, zucchini ,tomatoes, beans, physalis, mirabelles, currants, strawberries, not so much with others - gooseberries, cucumbers & apples - and of course there were spectacular failures - all cabbages: red, white, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, romanesco.

     

    We lost our allotment last year, which was a shame, but it led to us buying a field which we have just planted with a whole lot of fruit trees and shrubs. I hestitated in the past because we never knew hoe much longer we would be able to keep it. We also managed to buy a fenced garden next to it where I'll plant the tomatoes etc. Ownership won't be transferred until 1 June so they will have to make do with the pots until then.

    Exactly. What I am wondering is at which point (i.e. temperature) it switches to gas being more efficient / economical and how to adjust the settings for it. WE do have a air source heat pump. The service person should come in the next month or so and I will pepper him with questions. They love me :D I think I drive them nuts because I have the basic technical understanding and ask relevant questions, but lack the proper technical vocabulary so the questions sometimes come out funny.
