  1. Hi guys,

I'm a NZ citizen with a visa and I've been in Germany for about 3 weeks now. I don't have a permanent address yet (staying with friends) and I plan on moving cities for work in a couple of weeks. I already have a job lined up, so I know that I have some things to sort out but it's all getting confusing since a lot of information is contradictory or in German so I don't understand a lot of it. I was wondering if you guys could answer a couple of questions :)

    1. Do I have to register at the Einwohnermeldeamt (residency office) if I don't have a permanent address yet? Will I be fined if I register late? I have already been here for 3 weeks and I was not aware of this and now I'm worried I'll have to pay some major fines because of it. However, I don't have a permanent address yet so I'm not sure how I'm supposed to prove to them that I live in a certain place..

    2. To set up a bank account, do I need a permanent address or can I use a friend's address for the time being?

    3. When sorting out a tax code/number, how long will it take before I'm given one? I start work in a few weeks and I'm worried that I won't get one in time.

Thanks for all your help, it's really appreciated!

  2. Thank you, engelchen. I'm looking to teach English, not have my qualification recognized and seeing as I don't necessarily plan on teaching English in Bremen for an extended period of time, hopefully it will not be an issue. I have taught English before in other countries, was just curious as to what the assessment process in getting tutoring/teaching jobs would be like in Germany.

  3. Hi guys!

I'm an English native speaker moving to Bremen at the end of February and I've been applying for teaching/tutoring jobs. I recently was asked to attend an assessment for the University of Bremen (Fremdsprachenzentrum) and I was wondering if anyone here has had to attend one and, if so, what the assessment process is like?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!! :)

  4. Hi guys,

I'm a NZer looking to apply for the working holiday visa and I plan on applying here in NZ as it seems it might be easier. I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on what address I should put down for my visa application as I do not yet have an address there in Germany? Also, will $3000NZD be enough to secure the visa granted I already have my flight and travel insurance booked? Will it matter if the funds have only been put into my account recently? I think I read somewhere that you had to have the funds in your account for at least 3 months..

Any tips/advice/comments would be greatly appreciated.. thank you!
