  1. Politics Gen XYZ

As quoted a member of the Cobnham family, the assurances are not worth the paper they're written on. China and Russia are loving it.
  2. DHL sent my package back

Got to reduce spending at Amazon because once they've destroyed the High Street, they will be no competition and we will be fleeced for every little thing.
  3. DHL sent my package back

That's really bad news, just about every year we have a problem with delivery of a present from our daughter's Godfather and every year bar one, we've got it sorted just in time. The one year we didn't was because the numpties left it with a neighbour and didn't bother telling us. Spiderpig, you have to remember these delivery companies, except for  UPS use cheap foreign labour often on a self employed contract where they have all the costs. They don't give a shit about quality of service and I'm sure they massage the figures to the contract givers such as Amazon, The White Company, etc. I know it's of no real help but we just have to be creative on how to get round this problem e.g where I can I stipulate the carrier I want to use. I reduce our address to the bare minimum simply because last year Hermes said they couldn't deliver our package correctly because our address was too long for their system and it was our fault. This year our daughter's Godfather said he was told by the carrier that our post code was wrong. WTF. There's a real case where possible for going back to the High Street because the argument that internet shopping is more convenient is just a load of Arse.
  4. Protect European Energy Security Act

The Russians have regularly found a reason to shut off gas supplies to the Ukraine so nothing new there. As for developing new sources, that takes cash and things are only invested in if either there is a good chance of a return or if government's with a social conscience believe it is in the interests of the general population.   Something else to ponder, with the demise of coal fired power stations and the closure of nuclear stations, the German government has made itself even more dependent on gas and Russian gas in particular. Nothing like having all your eggs in one basket and Putin knows it, it is what the Russians want to happen.
  5. What's got you flummoxed today?

I briefly mentioned to a German friend about non voluntary  Euphanasia, she later said to my wife that I was weird for raising such a subject and it isn't really the done thing to talk about it in Germany. So not everything is off limits.
  6. Brexit: The fallout

Does such a person in power actually exist? as for high calibre politician, not seen one of those for at least 10 years. As for charisma, these life coaches or rather Bullshit coaches tend to remove any form of individuality in case it does more damage. The most charismatic but not necessarily charming are people like Alan Clarke, John Prescott (OK, he was a bit of a thug as well), Michael Heseltine, Tony Benn and maybe Tony Blair. Who in the present bunch can be included in that list.
  7. Brexit: The fallout

    Where's David Cameron?
  8. Brexit: The fallout

    Standard negotiation tactics
  9. Brexit: The fallout

I have to agree with Tony. The only people enjoying this are the Tories, however, they now have to come up trumps and can't blame anyone else because they've already been in power since 2010. But who can Labour elect as the new leader that will unify the party and kick out Momentum and the other Dinosaurs?
  10. Brexit: The fallout

    You have lost
  11. Mathematics help needed

That I'm afraid doesn't help, perhaps you ought to take up Kommentarlos's idea.
  12. Brexit: The fallout

Arguments don't win elections anymore, personalities do, or rather salesmen with the gift of the Gab
  13. Christmas presents

Sounds about right, paid 45€ for one around 1.9M tall.
  14. Christmas presents

Thanks for the understanding, I am sure I'm not the only one on TT that has this sort of family. Trouble is it makes us who we are which isn't always that nice.
  15. Mathematics help needed

Do you actually work with Germans Spiderpig, where you need to read and write in German?
  16. Christmas presents

I can't say what I've got for my wife because she reads the posts. I send a pressy to two very good mates in the UK, usually some local produce from RLP but postal cost is getting silly so it will be a gift from John Lewis or M & S. As for family, I was posted to Germany in the 80's. For the first Christmas, I went out and bought pressies for everyone back home and I received NOTHING, not even a f....g card. This happened every year I was here. Later in the the mid 90's my sister was in the states and my mother visited her for Christmas. Again I rushed round making sure they all had presents and again I got NOTHING. It wasn't about receiving presents, it was about actually being thought of, actually being thought as a member of the family. So now, they get F. all and I send myself a pressy so at least I have something to open. OK, I'm married and my lovely wife and Pubetiere always get me something nice but old habits die hard.   As a modern day Scrooge would say, They can all F off.
  17. Brexit: The fallout

Incidentally, anyone heard anything from Farage or the Brexit Party?
  18. Brexit: The fallout

Interesting, Rory Stewart comes over as a thinking, thoughtful Tory, so out of step with the present party leaders. Totally agree with what he said about Corbyn. The Labour Party entered A & E when Michael Foot became Party Leader, Neil Kinnock, gave it some some strong medicine, John Smith made it stronger and palatable then Blair took the Labour Party back into the general community. But with the wrong Milliband being elected party leader followed by Corbyn it is back in intensive care with little hope of recovery
  19. Mathematics help needed

I think balticus has got it, it's like a trick question to get the kids thinking. Forget the signs and put them back at the end. After saying that I've had a massive blow up with my daughter this morning over her Maths homework. She's a stubborn little Pubetiere that won't listen and then tells me it's my fault even though the little S is the one who should do it.   Spiderpig, I empathise.
  20. Brexit: The fallout

Like I said in a previous post, Labour needs a Kinnock type character in charge who will stand up to Momentum, remove them from influence and make Labour electable again
  21. What's got you flummoxed today?

    Well that's a bugger
  22. What's got you flummoxed today?

You also have to remember that WhatsApp is owned by Facebook and the guy who set up WhatsApp initially worked for Facebook then walked out over differences on how WhatsApp is being used. So it isn't really safe anymore. one of the reasons I still use a Blackberry is that you can still encrypt messages.
  23. What's got you flummoxed today?

Banking etc and interactive sites I engage with I do on my PC. Browsing I do on my Tablet, NO interaction. Browsing and WhatsApp on my mobile NO other interaction. If I am in need of sending an email it is encrypted. I also have two email addresses, one from Google that is general so they can read what they fucking want, the other is not and that will be used for truly private stuff. I also use Firefox that seem to be on the ball with blocking Social Media trackers and we keep Norton up to date. The buggers already know far more about me than I would like because of forums like this but hey I'm not a hermit so I have to balance threat against need.
  24. President Donald J. Trump

Could be but his mate Göring was, apparantly addicted to morphine, this guy was a vegetarian and had very bad Halitosis.
  25. President Donald J. Trump

There was a guy in the 30's who use to have problems concentrating, use to stay up all night watching films at the time rather than twittering now, would fly into a rage and remove anyone who questioned him. He wrote a book that was full of ramblings as well, I think it was called Mein Kampf or something like that. Oh and he had a big ego.   Can't quite remember his name...
