  1. Thanks a lot Mike. If I try to sell this car in a hurry in France, I won’t get more than 4kEuros; and if I would buy also in a hurry an equivalent 10-yr old well maintained mini-SUV in Germany, I guess I will spend much more than that. Therefore, my concern is the hassle & time needed to get it approved by TUV,  to get it registered here in Germany, and get a new insurance here. Is it possible to complete all this within the time allowed to do the same (is it 6months after moving here?), or do we see a risk? (As you said, your friends from Portugal could not pass the tests, so itbseems to be very high risk!!)

  2. Hey Toytowners, I need some help, and thought of tagging along this post, which has similar relevant info. I am living in Paris now & driving a 11-year old Toyota RAV4 Diesel automatic transmission, 4 WD here. We are moving to Hofheim (western suburb of Frankfurt) in a few days, and I am thinking of bringing my car along with me. I wanted if any of you has an idea if I would be able to use this car at least for 2-3 more years in Germany without much hassle in quickly getting in registered in Germany, and getting a new insurance here. Is there any time limit on number of days the car can be driven by me here with the French registration? Can I drive it for a few days with the French insurance, or is it also possible to get this car insurance in Germany a couple of days before I move?

  3. My apartment is a 110 sq.m. bright and airy penthouse apartment in a kid-friendly and safe society in the innermost-subway zone of Frankfurt (Zone 50) with a large Living Room; 2 good sized bedrooms; large toilet-cum-bathroom with bathtub & window; separate guest toilet with window; large built-in-kitchen with 6-plate ceramic cooking table, oven, dishwasher, washing machine, referigerator-cum-deep-freeze, microwave oven etc.; large south facing

balcony with a lovely view Taunus / Downtown; closet area for overcoats and jackets; a good-sized cellar and a parking place.

The apartment is completely ready to move-in with closets / cupboards in all rooms, Germany-wide flat-rate phone and broadband wireless internet connection, furniture including double-bed, sofa set, dining set extendable for upto 12 persons, side boards etc. It also has a floor heating installed which lowers substantially, the monthly utilities costs. U-Bahn station, 3 Bustops, Bakery, Doctor, Pharmacy, Supermarket, Children Park are less than 100 meters from the apartment. School & Hospital are about 200 mtrs from the apartment.

Available for mid- / long- term rentals from 01-September-2010. It would be a direct contract with the flat-owner.

Feel free to contact me in case you need more details or if you want to view the apartment.

    Cheers!

  4. Hi Toytowners, My flat would be available again from September 2010 onwards. It is a 3-room, 110 sq.mtr. apartment with a large south facing balcony providing a lovely view of Taunus / Downtown. Supermarkt, Bakery, Pharmacy, Children Park, U6-Bahn station and 3 Bustops are less than 100 meters from the apartment. At present the apartment is completely furnished and ready to move-in but I am willing to take back any or all of these furnishings, if you plan to bring your own. 5. I called up T-Com a week back and informed them that I am leaving Germany for good and if there is any specific format for cancellation of Call-and-Surf-Comfort. The lady was very nice and told me that I should write in the letter 'Sonderkuendigung' and attach my Abmeldung and fax it. All done the same day and I today got the confirmation letter from them (yes, in 6 days! !) that they will cancel the contract from the given date.

The problem is that they have written there that they will charge me 240 odd Euros as 'Abloesbetrag Umzug ins Ausland'. Further they mentioned that "due to technical reasons, the following month's bill might also be applicable and this will be billed with the Final Invoice".

    Any similar experiences?

  6. Dear YL6,

I am a non-EU citizen, staying in Frankfurt for last few years on a 'Aufenhaltserlaubnis'. I will be moving soon to another EU Nation owing to an intra-company transfer.

To be covered under Social Security, I have been informed that I can opt either of the following:

    A. To participate in future nation's Social Security System directly.

    B. To maintain my participation to the German Social Security System under the European Social Security Agreement N° 1408/71 art. 17 and ensure the payment of both employee’s and employer’s portions in Germany.

    I have the following queries:

    1. Can you guide me how this works (certificates E101, E106…) ? - Any link to an English translation of the entire rule would be great.

    2. Is it advisable to go for option B ?

    3. I am eligible for a PR in Germany in 2010. Does this move change my eligibility criteria in either of the above options?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

  8. Hi, I have a big problem. About a year back, I received a kind of scratch-card with some freebies (approx. worth of 10-15 Eur). I normally throw such things, but it was just a small postcard and there was no mention about any cost etc and so I filled it and sent it back. After that I changed my residence and now yesterday, I have received a letter from Inkasso as 'LETZTE MAHNUNG' and saying I have an outstanding of approx. 300 Euros which I shoul pay by tomorrow.

Can someone suggest me how should I proceed regarding this.

    1. I don't want to just ignore it since I plan to continue in this apartment for very long.

    2. I don't want to pay 'coz I am sure there was no Contract mentioned in that postcard - I kept a copy of the same for a few months as a proof, but then I threw it.

    3. Can I approach some customer-safety-offices in Frankfurt?

    4. Should I call the agency and try to explain them in my grundstufe-level Deutsche? (But I fear it may lead to further problems).

    Please help me. Thanks.

  9. Hi Guys, I am having a prepaid Debitel card for about 2 years. Unfortunately, my year old son was playing with my cell phone and now the card is locked. It is asking for PUC Code which obviously I haven't retained with me (it apparently came with the SIM Card in the same box two years back). I just know the PIN Code but that doen't help.

I wanted to get it unlocked mainly due to the fact that I still have about 30 Euros talktime balance in that Card. I contacted a debitel shop (in Saturn Frankfurt) and the representative told me that it can't be reopened and I should buy a new one - he obviously was trying to sell me a new card and I could sense that. I contacted another phone shop in Debitel he said he will be able to open it (by calling Debitel and asking for PUC COde) if I get a copy of my passport etc and it will cost me 11 Euros.

Just wanted to know if someone had a similar experience earlier and what the best solution. Should I go for the second alternative?

  10. Thanks Freising. The link was very helpful. I am just wondering that there was no place to fill which Clause no. in the form (it was just a page long form with anme, address etc) and so I still cant find why they rejected the application. But I will check that with Ausländerbhörde and post my findings here. Thanks again.

  11. I also have a similar problem. My wife (also an Indian passport holder with residence permit - dependant on me) applied for Integration Kurs particularly because its subsidized. The application was rejected by a letter frm BAMF saying the following (translated crudely from German to English by me):

Your application does not compile with 'Clause 44 Abs. 4 of Aufenthalsgesetz'. You meet the provisions of 'Clause 44 Abs. 1 of Aufenthalsgesetz' since you you have first received your Residence Permit on 12-April-2007. Regarding any permission to participate in Integration Course, please contact 'Ausländerbehörde' and make another exemption request.

We will contact the 'Ausländerbhörde' once again but does anyone in this forum know, what is this Clause 44 of Aufenthalsgesetz?

  12. I came to know about an English-speaking Tax Consultant in Frankfurt who charges 200 Euros for filing your tax returns for 2006. Do you advise that I should take her services or sould I try filling up myself (may be ELSTER or so - I am unbale to guage from earlier post, how difficult or easy it is to use ELSTER). Thanks in advance for all your advice.

  13. My wife wanted to enroll for an Integration Course but her application was rejected since they said that her residence permit should have been valid for at least 12 months from the date of registration. I think its impossible since FRO in Frankfurt only issues visas for one year for first 3 years.

  14. Just to let you know that I have received my residence/work permit valid only till the validity of passport date (and obviously the same date for my wife and son too). And they are not ready to listen anything else.

I will definitely apply for a new passport immediately and then I am not sure if I will have to go through the whole process again for prolonging of the residence/work permit (and fees which comes to 75 euros for three of us).

Thanks all for the answers though.

PS: 'Trudering_Indian', Do you know if I have to fill-up the online form for application for new passport? If yes, which passport office should I select since in online form only the passport offices of India are listed.

  15. Hi, I have seen too many posts in this forum regarding buying an apartment / house in Germany with a lot of apprehension whether it will be easier to sell at a later date at a reasonable price and also whether it will be better than paying off rent or paying interst on mrtgage.

Was just wondering, if any of the members in this forum has any experience in seeling any property in Germany. He can prabably through more light on such matters.

  16. Well, just repeaing which I posted recently in another post ..

I have recently purchased an apartment in Frankfurt and its 100% financed by bank (i.e ZERO downpayment but, you must remember that you need approx. 10-15% of the apartment as Nebenkosten which is Makler, Notar, PropertyTax, Basic Furniture, Insurance, Shifting expenses etc.). I have heard some banks are fiancing upto 105% of the apartment cost also (even for non-EU members with limited visa).

So, go ahead and all the best.
