yeh right...can't figure out how to test, but said you to replace the os...really is nothing but trolls on here. can't add to a topic, just spew verbal

amlogic s905x - f.f.s. probably means nothing to you and is already outdated. but nevertheless, it doesn't matter.. if you buy any of these boxes, you should have a firewall and / or minimum vpn. not for pirate videos, but to protect your other machines on the network

correct...but i was after the h/w mainly anyway.

here is tip for you...try to use a brain and goto amazon and type "kodi box"... what was 2yrs ago is long gone and they have newer models of all sorts of Chinese brands they are ALL the plus various apps (no doubt with undisclosed p2p backends) and connections to servers in China. when buying anything from China, you should already assume it has malware to allow Chinese hackers to use it e.g. for bitcoin mining. very common with these devices and home routers, etc. my the hardware and replace the software. firewalls, routers, media boxes, can all be replaced with open source linux

i am happy for you. this little exercise of investigating what happened with the box resulted in me also finding out my sams@ng bluray player was loaded with malware, just before the snowden leaks came out with the info about backdoors into their TVs. So you buy stuff out of the box and put blind faith that the nsa, bnd, russia, china, etc are not hacking you, and i'll buy my stuff where i retain as much control as is feasibly possible i.e. cheap chinese hardware, where i can change the os and ensure it does not have backdoors in so far as possible
  6. option to delete user profile

there seems to be no option to delete the user profile. that is against eu law, unless someone can say how it is done - that may not be obvious

** bullsh@t - i don't use ebay.. i bought on amazone punkt de in 2016 - just looked at the order. was shipped from lux. yes..and you say you are a developer...pull the other one... remove the android os, and replace with linux...OpenElec, LibreElec, are all slim versions of linux for these boxes that strip all the crap out. - and if you only want for streaming within the home, is the ideal form. with full HD over a wired Cat 6 network, i still got stuttering on the box, till replacing the android crap

maybe you don't know as much as you think. The boxes come with kodi (which is open source) and a bunch of other open source apps. they also come with some apps like the popcorn described. A person who has a large collection of movies e.g. 500 and wants to stream them around the house without having to get discs out every time, might setup their own media server and convert their discs to mkv which can then be streamed at will over kodi. the small size and plug and play nature of these so called kodi boxes are ideal for that scenario. and as i have said previously, anyone wanting to do that, should scrap the android crap on the box and replace it with linux which performs infinitely better anyway and gets rid of all the blotware. bare in mind, i am not the person who opened this thread, but there are certainly scenarios that catch out people innocently.

what does it matter which box...there are a hundreds...most of them use the same CPU / hardware as tablets computers, but have been stuck is a small form and marketed under "Kodi box's" but that is for the non-IT people. bottom line is whether a small USB stick, credit card sized, etc they typically come pre-loaded. What they don't say is how those programs work in the background. is they are receiving a pirate stream, but not uploading, they are not breaking the law which has been confirmed by the ECJ. It is only if they are uploading i.e. with a p2p. Not withstanding that, most of these boxes also try to communicate with sites in China in the background, so if someone was going to buy one (whichever one), i strongly recommend removing the Android OS and replacing with something else, where you can control what the box is doing.

was a typo should be "A" not "I"

What are you on about? trying reading my post before making false assertions. . i got it for 57s of upload time, while i saw 30s and stopped it as i had no intention of watching a pirate movie. further, as i said,  I removed the android o/s and replaced it with linux to remove any sh@t on the box - because i did't buy it to watch pirate movies on.
  12. Zollamt Problem

like everywhere, there are pros and cons....

now you are smoking something.... I Chinese singer, has her own youtube channel, with her official videos viewable from anywhere else around the world... except in Germany where GEMA have youtube block the content....get f² has nothing to do with collecting royalties for the artists. It is about collecting for themselves.
  14. Accused of torrenting copyrighted material

yeh work for Gema....then explain how you justify requesting youtube to block content from Chinese performers i.e. official music videos and tv programs on their youtube TV channels. just another criminal enterprise like the auto manufacturers who don't got o jail, but instead push the government to legislate so people have to buy new cars to cover up the criminal actions of the auto manufacturers in the first place...

"Always amuses me how many people on here get on their high horse about copyright theft but are sitting there watching Netflix,IPlayer etc through a VPN. " - a) you assume that everybody rounded up in what amounts to extortion, has actually done something illegal e.g. filesharing (or movie uploading in simple terms) b ) if is not illegal in Europe to watch stream content. Notwithstanding the fact netflix/iplayer is not illegal content albeit through vpn or not.
