The Innenministerium has published the list of the first non-Schengen countries from where visitors may arrive:
The rules are going to be reviewed biweekly. I think your family should wait and see if the US manages to make it this summer and if there are any special restrictions for them.
The rising cases are only people testing positive. Death rate continues to go down and hospitalizations are not going up. It is all a hype.

Of course you can find articles saying the death toll will rise... Just like they told us millions would die back in March. Common sense needs to prevail: wear a mask, wash your hands, stay out of big crowds.

I bought one here in CA made in CA. Unfortunately the battery is Chinese. Electra Townie Go! 7D. Nice bike. Unfortunately, since I am moving to the EU, the battery becomes a problem. I spoke with a bike shop owner in Warsaw and he said they sell Electra there, and he should be able to hook me up with a battery when the bike gets there. I have heard that you can freight by sea, but I have yet to find anyone who does that for a 5.8lb Lithium Ion Battery. If anyone knows any company who would ship from San Diego or LA to Poland, please let me know. Otherwise I might have to sell it before and hope to find one when I get there. It's a good bike without the battery but being older, it is nice for hills to have a little push.

Yes, Germany. I was told I would get into Poland, because with the work permit, I am considered essential. I can't get my resident visa here in LA as the Polish consulate is closed. I was told I would get in, but I would have to quarantine for 2 weeks. That is why I would consider going to Canada for 2 weeks. I could then just fly to Europe. As a Canadian citizen, I would get into Canada which Americans cannot right now.

14 hours ago, ansi said:@cacilia_1 As long as you follow their instructions on this website, it is manageable to fly with animals (during normal times, see comment at the end about my experience with current restrictions due to Covid-19):
https://www.lufthansa.com/de/en/travelling-with-animals
Details of my trip & recommendations:
You must call customer service before booking to make sure the flights you want to go on have room for animals. For my flight there was a total limit of 4 animals in cabin and 4 in cargo – this number depends on size of airplane and destination. The flight I was on was at full capacity for animals.
After you’ve found flights with room for animals, go back and book the flights online. Then immediately call customer service again to reserve space for the animals you want to bring on those flights. (You can probably book flights on the phone too with customer service.) Note that this call to reserve the space for animals will take about 45-50 minutes and they ask for details like breed of the animal, dimensions & weight of carriers, weight of animal, etc.
I flew with 1 cat in the cabin and 1 cat in cargo because international regulations only allow 1 animal per person in cabin. Lufthansa won’t let you buy an extra seat for a cat either (I tried.)
Carefully read and fill out all the paperwork and checklists from the website above.
When you arrive to check in, they will charge you for the animals (cabin = $126, cargo = $218). Arrive to check in early because it takes significantly longer to do the check in with them.
Make sure that your carriers meet the size and weight requirements. If they are too big or too heavy, they will not let you board.
The health certificate requirements for allowing the animals into the EU are strict and Lufthansa checks that you meet the requirements at check in. Make sure you follow the requirements and get all the certifications in time, but not too soon. For example, your animal must have had a rabies vaccination within the last year but no less than 30 days before the flight. Also, they must have an EU-format microchip implanted. US format is different so you will probably have to order the EU format microchip from somewhere online and then bring it to your vet to have it implanted. If your animals already have an EU pet passport with valid rabies vaccination in it & EU microchip, then that is all that is needed for getting into the EU. All of this health documentation will be checked again by customs when you arrive at your destination.
Bring earplugs for your neighbors on the flight as a nice gesture. My cat yelled bloody murder for the first 2 hours of the flight.
Here is the REALLY fun part: due to Covid, Lufthansa are NOT transferring animals between planes. The claim is that they do not have ground crew capacity to do this. I had to fly in to Munich, pick up the cats, and then take a train to Berlin, even though I had a flight to Berlin already booked and there was room for cats on the flight.
The nice customer service person on the phone AND the people at LAX at check-in called Munich to try to set it up so I could pick up the cat in cargo from baggage and then re-check him in to Berlin, and that was absolutely not allowed.
If you’re lucky, they may have changed this and will be transferring animals between flights by the time you need to come here, but don’t count on it. Animal transport during Covid is constantly changing and Lufthansa is actually one of the very few airlines that are doing it at all right now
Hope this helps!
Thank you so much. I am flying LA to Warsaw through Frankfurt and have to hope they will transfer my cats to the next plane the next day. Unless things change between now and August, I will only be allowed to travel through Frankfurt to Poland. Otherwise I could just rent a car from Frankfurt and drive to Warsaw. I am not sure if my work permit for Poland allows me to walk around in Germany or not when flying from the US. Of course, i could as a Canadian, go to Canada, quarantine for 2 weeks from the states and then fly out of any city in Canada. What doesn't kill you, makes you more resourceful.

The immigration officer took one look at the Niederlassungserlaubnis sticker in my US passport, said “Willkommen” and waved me through.
I also had very good experience with Lufthansa after they cancelled my original flights. I was supposed to come back end of April and my rescheduled flights got cancelled multiple times, so I ended up staying about 5 weeks longer than expected. They were very helpful on the phone though, and rebooked everything (including the cats) several times without charge or fuss.
The flight itself had 97 passengers and we all pretty much got our own row. They were very strict about enforcing the mask policy. How did you handle flying with the cats on Lufthansa? Did they fly with you? Under the seat? In cargo? Or on another plane?
I have a work visa for Poland in August and will be flying Lufthansa through Frankfurt from LAX and transfering to Warsaw. Any help or insight would be appreciated. Otherwise I will have to go to Canada (Citizen) quarantine for 2 weeks and can then enter Europe with no problems. I will probably have to quarantine in Warsaw for 2 weeks if I fly from LAX.
Thank you .

Just a silly question. What happens if you got married without telling them you were married and divorced before in another country? Do they really have the means and interest to follow up on every detail of someone's life? I am just interested in knowing how much they can know about someone or if there is enough going on, that they just take your word for it if you said you had never been married. Thank you.

Latest news out today was that the virus is weakening. Not that it has gone away but in order to survive, it can't kill its hosts so it is evolving into a less virulent form.

I will contact the companies you all have suggested to get some quotes in.
I was hoping for a door to door service including packing but that seems to be quite expensive - as I did not plan to move a container-worth of items.
2K for a crate sounds expensive to me ... if my belongings going into the crate is not worth that much
Does any of you have any advice for packing furniture yourself?
I heard that if you do not pack up things properly aka let professionals pack your boxes, insurance will not cover any damage.
One very valid option I am seeing now is to try to carry as much as possible on the plane and ship some books and other random items via mail.
Initially I was worried about the impact of the pandemic on the mail service as there were no packaged allowed to the US for a while - I hope this changes soon.
I have been receiving items purchased from Asia, yes and from the UK. I haven't heard anything about no packages allowed to the US.

.Where I am currently in CA, Walmart and Target have remained open. You can buy electronics and clothes as well as food.

I guess I miss smoking as it reminds me of when I was younger and I had some really good times back then. Yes it does smell but I do miss the taste of nicotine, probably why I managed to finally quit the habit using nicotine gum. I now just chew normal chewing gum whenever I want a cigarette.
I still think though in general people do not communicate with each other. They stonewall and start passive aggression, leaving the other person unaware of what they have done. If someones's behaviour annoys you, you have to tell them.
I hoped and longed my partner would give up smoking but they never did. I talked to them, but at the end of the day they have to want to give up. I have noticed though as an ex smoker, I cannot stand that stale ash tray smell on my partners clothes.
People usually gain weight because they need something to do with their hands as well as something to put in their mouths. (Waiting) I am not so sure that nicotine is much of a stimulant after so many years, as the body has become used to it. My friends who have quit smoking say they need something to do so they eat or chew gum.

Over 50% of college graduates come from families in the top 20% of earners.
14% come from low income families.
?
The middle class pays most of the taxes and doesn't really earn enough to pay up to $100k in tuition. News for you! The kids get out of school in debt and never get out of it. Why should low income kids get free education? What did they do to deserve it. Now if someone goes into medicine or engineering, I have no problem with free education for everyone. The problem is, is that most of them take liberal arts courses that will not get a real job that pays back the $100k in debt they racked up. That applies to both sides.

I think the debt system we have is essentially a graduate tax being hidden as student debt. I have no real problem with it, except if low income families are scared off by it. Then it becomes a very real issue, because the opportunity for the most appropriate learning/training should be available to all.
In America, most low income families end up not paying much for college. Disclaimer here as I am sure some people did, but the people I know and work with get their education basicially free. AND in CA if you illegal, you can get grants and pretty much go to college for free. It's the middle class in America that royally gets screwed.

Considering the fact that it's been 12 since I've had had to agonize over my $190,000 total debt in the US (most of which can't be discharged through bankruptcy because they are student loans), and has been even longer since I've been turned down for a job for my teenage escapades that had me often cooling my heels in the county jail, I'd have to say living in Germany is quite peachy.
Second chances feel great!
How did you discharge the debt then, if I may ask? Do they not follow you over to Germany and when you file your taxes? Just interested....

Because Trump is not (capable of becoming) a dictator, he "only" provoked pogroms with his posts. And yes, certain people left because of him as their life became no more safe.
INTERESTING:
I know many jewish people in the USA and Canada who have left places like Berlin and Paris because of the muslim attacks they have received. Most of them are worried about their children.

German men are the least aggressive men I know. There are a lot of Waschlappen among them. Can't even ask a girl out...lol

I think one needs to differentiate between the terms migrant, immigrant and refugee to find the correct statistics of who does and doesn't work.

I have a Google Pixelbook and a Pixel phone and I love it. BUT, in Prague, I 'lost' my charger and they didn't sell them in the Czech Republic as of Oct 2018. I also had a problem finding them in Germany in such stores as Media Markt. I finally found one in Dresden, near the Hauptbahnhof at a smaller, privately owned store. They will become more popular but are not as popular as they are in the US. Everyone wanted to see it and my Pixel phone.

Did you ever wonder why things in Germany went south so fast in the '30s and '40s? Just look around you. It was science back then also that proved Germans were superior and other races were dangerous to them. Crazy to watch it happen all over again but this time worldwide. People want to believe in something, even it is just to make them feel morally superior to other people. The crazy things you people say to each other; the hate continues to rise.
