  1. Brexit: The fallout

This link will be of interest to those interested in S1, future pension payments and student fees. Good to know that there are people out there challenging the UK gov on expat rights.
  2. Brexit: The fallout

KELETH wrote I`d like to do a survey of Brexit voters to find out what EU rule they disagree with that is an actual rule and not just some lie (Jonson and his kippers springs to mind here). ____________________ I have often asked the same question and I still have no real idea why. Immigration, jobs for Brits and taking back control come up.  But it should be much more than that! What do brexiteers want to take back control of? How would leaving the EU change their lives in a positive way? "Do it die" For what?
  3. Brexit: The fallout

just do it then Spiegel online   Let's Make a DealEurope Can No Longer Afford the Brexit Insanity Despite everything, it is time for the European Union to reach a deal with the United Kingdom on Brexit. Compromise is the only way out of this mess.
  4. Brexit: The fallout

El Jeffo The EU will not talk the UK about expat rights. They say it's all covered in the WA, so just sign the deal. However, it seems some progress has been achieved with cover in Spain and France and yet to be tested here in Germany. Short-term though.
  5. Brexit: The fallout

Re: Healthcare I read a while ago that May had approached Merkel to get a deal for expats. Apparently, Merkel wanted to...think about it. Nothing happened. I guess the EU does not yet think the WA is totally dead, and do not want the UK making bilateral agreements with France or Spain et al.
  6. Brexit: The fallout

NHS S1 Called the NHS BSA line this morning and they confirmed that they will pay for 6 months healthcare from Nov 1st. When I asked how would that work in practice, he said take your S1 along to the - in my case- AOK and talk to them.    Not sure it will be as painless as he suggests! However, he did confirm what John G mentioned in his post...that the UK is currently in negotiations with Germany for a longer period of cover.
  7. Brexit: The fallout

Voter's who voted leave often claim they feel 'shackled' by the EU and want the opportunity to sign trade agreements with the rest of the world. It is interesting to note in 2018 that Germany, Netherlands, France and Italy exported more than the UK. They all achieved this from within the EU. Why the rush to leave? 1. China 2. USA 3. Germany 4. Japan 5. South Korea 6. Netherlands 7. Hong Kong 8. France 9. Italy 10. UK
  8. Brexit: The fallout

Hi Wulfrun, Thanks for your post about the expats meeting. I am registered but did not receive notice of it! However, interested in your letter from the NHS "stating that NHS health cover would continue for 3 years after 31/1". I receive healthcare through the S1 and as far as I know cover stops 31/10, if no agreement is reached. Is the 3 years cover after 31/20 mean that a bilateral agreement is now in place? Or is this wishful thinking?
