  2. The 400k tax free gift is over a 10 year period.  If you want to play it by the book, you should tell Finanzamt about the gift.  It could save you trouble later if anybody asks where you got the money.   Another question is if you or your parents have to pay gift tax in the US or whether a dual tax agreement between the US and Germany mentions gifts in any way.
  3. Tesla Gigafactories, News and Conversation

Behind That Hertz Tesla Purchase The rental-car company has a secret business weapon: Taxpayers.   Tesla CEO Elon Musk says he isn’t giving Hertz a discount on the reported $4.2 billion order. But he doesn’t need to because the House reconciliation spending bill includes a 30% tax credit for “qualified commercial electric vehicles.” The text doesn’t clearly define what is a “qualified commercial electric” vehicle, but our sources say Hertz’s Teslas would likely make the cut. The credit could save Hertz $1.26 billion and make a Tesla almost as cheap for Hertz to buy as a Toyota Camry. Hertz plans to install thousands of electric-vehicle chargers, which could also be eligible for taxpayers subsidies. The House spending bill extends a 30% tax credit for the installation of EV charging stations through 2031, which is on top of the $7.5 billion appropriation for stations in the separate Senate infrastructure bill.

  5. Telekom charging me rent on a router I returned

According to this, the best way to contact them is on their online contact option…. If your written German isn’t great, use free If in doubt, use short and simple English sentences. Usually gives a very decent translation.  Include all references….account numbers etc.
  6. I don't understand this...?
  7. Bitcoin - a decentralised digital currency

Does someone mine crypto or has setup rigs to mine in at home? I am trying to explore in the area as I am pretty new and need some advice, if it is still worth to do looking at the rising electricity prices? Also mining as a standalone user might not help and which pools are good to join.
  8. The EU now recognizes vaccination certificates from the UK:   It does not solve the problem of the OP, I think due to bureaucratic complications mixing doses from several countries will not be legally recognized in future.
  9. Scary letter from Staatenswaltschaft

I wonder why it escalated to the Staatsanwaltschaft so fast. You usually get two Manhnungen before any action is taken by the authorities.    A friend of mine got her company account frozen due to an allegedly unpaid health insurance bill for her employee. The issue was solved by a lot of calls to the health insurance and the tax office.    But the prosecution and jail threats?! Sounds fishy but maybe Berlin is different.
  10. 3G telephone network switch-off

Most suppliers already switched off 3G network, e.g. O2 in June 21. For this reason I upgraded from IPhone 4S to 12.
  11.   Oh, now, come on. You know most of our resident racists aren't smart enough for that.
  12. What made you smile today?

Smile? Made me nearly vomit over the screen. And yesterday didn't wear seatbelts
  13. I thought the plan was that vaccinated people would also be entitled to a free quick test but apparently that isn't the case and you need to pay for it.
  14. Jokes

A little boy and a little girl attended the same school and became friends..Every day they would sit together to eat their lunch. They discovered that they both brought chicken sandwiches every day! This went on all through the fourth and fifth grades, until one day he noticed that her sandwich wasn't a chicken sandwich. He said, 'Hey, how come you're not eating chicken, don't you like it anymore?' She said 'I love it but I have to stop eating it.' 'Why?' he asked. She pointed to her lap and said 'Cause I'm starting to grow little feathers down there!' 'Let me see' he said. 'Okay' and she showed him.. He looked and said, 'That's right. You are! Better not eat any more chicken.' He kept eating his chicken sandwiches until one day he brought peanut butter. He said to the little girl, 'I have to stop eating chicken sandwiches, I'm starting to get feathers down there too!' She asked if she could look, so he showed her! She said, 'Oh, my God, it's too late for you! You've already got the NECK and GIZZARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Staff shortage in KITA, problem everywhere ?

Are there currently enough substitute teachers for all public schools or just the elite ones? I've heard of many younger kids who had classes cancelled (all pre-pandemic) and were just left to their own devices.
  20. Why are you unhappy today?

Blood-splattered dead run over cat next to the cafe. Locals sipping on their coffees. Mind you, it was only a cat that hung around a rubbish container. Doesn't matter then..😒

  22. living abroad working for german company Have a look at this, midnil. Warning: there is a difference between being posted abroad by your employer and making a personal decision to move elsewhere.
  23. So interesting to read all this. I'm British but had a German passport from birth until I was fifteen (my mother is German) and then, although I never relinquished anything, I stupidly didn't bother to renew it. I thought I'd never need to! When I moved here in 2013, I simply registered my address as a Brit and thought nothing of it. Now, for the last 22 months, I've been waiting for Rathaus Pankow to complete a 'Staatsangehörigkeitsprüfung', not a full naturalisation process but a piece of paper stating what I already know, that I am German.
  24. Asking Finanzamt to explain tax assessment

I have claimed depreciation as per their feedback from last year. The property tax could explain last year's additional refund. But the amount from this year is much bigger than the property tax.
  25. Backdating an S1 healthcare form

No, his own insurance contributions are always the same, no matter: whether you get free cover under his policy through family insurance because your own monthly worldwide income is under 1/7 * Bezugsgröße = 1/7 * 3.290€ = 470€ (in 2021 and in 2022), or whether you get your own cover paid by the NHS.   That would be a bad idea, since there is no free family insurance in private health insurance and also because private health insurance gets prohibitively expensive the older you get, please read: If you gather more than 60 German pension months, you will get a minuscule German pension, but that would be a bad thing for you, since you would then have to pay German public health&nursing insurance contributions on all your worldwide pensions. Better to get health insurance for free through the NHS picking up the tab by issuing you an S1 form once you reach pension age.   If you raised children in Germany for the first 3 years of their life (and you were not an exception like, for example, only in Germany because of being attached to foreign armed forces) it may already be too late, i.e.  you may have already gathered these 60 months (= 5 contribution years), since mothers get 2.5 years of assumed pension contributions at the average salary, per child born before 1992 and 3 contribution years per child born in 1993 or later:   Please also read up on what I have written on the KVdR (Krankenversicherung der Rentner):
  26. DKB Bank (Deutsche Kredit-Bank)

That is a good thing isn't it?  I don't need to fund a separate CC account for free withdrawls worldwide now.
